One of the most unsettling confrontations in Netflix’s Unabomber arrives near the end of Ted Kaczynski’s time in Henry Murray’s Harvard research program. Russell Crowe’s Murray stops treating the young mathematics student as merely another participant and turns the experiment directly against him, using recordings of Ted’s private thoughts before telling him that his behavior…
Netflix’s Unabomber spends most of its running time moving toward two confrontations separated by more than three decades. In 1958, Jacob Tremblay’s young Ted Kaczynski becomes increasingly consumed by Henry Murray’s psychological research at Harvard, while the 1990s storyline follows Shailene Woodley’s Joanne Miller as she becomes convinced that the FBI has been looking for…
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 introduces Grace without giving her the kind of grand entrance normally reserved for an important new character. She appears at Castle Leoch as a young woman working for Jocasta Cameron, but Episode 2, “The Veil of Time,” quickly gives her two unusually warm scenes with Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.…
The Traitors: New Blood introduced an entirely civilian cast to the American version of the competition, giving viewers a group of people whose lives were largely unknown before they arrived at Ardross Castle. Arisa Thomas quickly stood out because her everyday profession is very different from the lawyers, doctors and business professionals around her. Arisa…
“S.W.A.T. Exiles” does not give Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson the comfortable homecoming viewers might expect. The new series finds the veteran S.W.A.T. leader two years removed from the job, carrying the consequences of a mission that changed his career and his personal life. Season 1 Episode 1, titled “Clean Entry,” puts Hondo back in uniform, but…
American Horror Story has turned houses, hotels and institutions into characters of their own before, and Season 13 wastes little time adding another ominous address to that list. Ben DeSoto arrives at the Apollyon expecting nothing more unusual than a difficult hospice assignment, but the first three episodes gradually reveal that the Manhattan building is…
Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 5 introduces another confusing Jason Dessen midway through Love and Be Loved: a disheveled, bearded Jason who suddenly becomes part of the unusual household Jason24 has created with his alternate mother. The bearded man is another variant of the original Jason Dessen, not Jason2 and not the Jason viewers normally…
American Horror Story: 13 brings back enough familiar villains, witches and supernatural figures to fill an entire season on their own, yet its biggest mystery belongs to someone viewers have never met before. Hidden inside the 13th floor of Manhattan’s Apollyon building is Mr. Nas, an elderly hospice patient whose frail appearance becomes increasingly difficult…
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 2, “The Veil of Time,” turns the mystery of Craigh na Dun into something much more personal for Henry and Julia. While Henry receives new hope in 1924, Julia is given an answer that appears to close the same door from the other side. Meanwhile, Ellen finds…
The Traitors: New Blood spent its opening episodes proving how easily a confident theory can send the Faithfuls in the wrong direction. Episode 4, titled The Death Parade, continues that pattern, but it also ends with the group closer than ever to identifying one of the actual Traitors. Katie Fites has barely settled into her…
The Traitors: New Blood enters Episode 3 with its most interesting experiment still unresolved. Joe Vanella and Tomica Adams have been operating as the castle’s original Traitors, but Katie Fites and Xavier Scruggs were secretly given a chance to compete for the third place in their group. The Traitors Are Watching finally reveals who wins…
HBO’s A Killer Story reaches its most consequential chapter in Episode 3, titled “A Dangerous Notion.” After spending much of the series examining the case against Dana Chandler and the people who became convinced that something had gone seriously wrong with her prosecution, the finale returns to court for two very different outcomes. What begins…
