The Traitors: New Blood Episode 4 Recap: Jay Finally Targets Katie

The Traitors: New Blood spent its opening episodes proving how easily a confident theory can send the Faithfuls in the wrong direction. Episode 4, titled The Death Parade, continues that pattern, but it also ends with the group closer than ever to identifying one of the actual Traitors.

Katie Fites has barely settled into her new position beside Joe Vanella and Tomica Adams when Xavier Scruggs’ earlier suspicions begin following her around the castle. At the same time, Jay Vinnedge deliberately turns himself into the loudest and most unpredictable Faithful in the game, believing that creating confusion could make the Traitors more interested in keeping him around than removing him.

Arisa Leaves After Another Wrong Round Table

Episode 4 begins exactly where the previous hour ended, with Jay being asked whether his experience reading body language has helped him identify anyone suspicious.

After building anticipation around his observations, Jay admits that he has little useful information to offer. His answer frustrates the group, and attention quickly shifts back toward the contestants already facing questions: Katie, Arisa Thomas and Victor Vollbrechthausen.

Joe helps protect Katie by telling the group that he spent considerable time with Xavier and never heard him personally raise concerns about her. That weakens one of the most dangerous pieces of information currently pointing toward the newly promoted Traitor.

Victor faces pressure of his own. Niyyah Hayes questions why he does not defend Arisa, comparing it with his failure to support Madeline Kostopulos at the previous Round Table. Michael Foote and Joe also challenge Victor, but the votes ultimately land elsewhere.

Arisa receives 13 votes, compared with five for Victor and one for Michael. She then reveals that she is a Faithful, confirming that the group has once again removed one of its own.

Sherry Becomes the Next False Lead

The incorrect Arisa vote does not slow the castle’s theory-making for long. Abby Lee feels responsible for contributing to the suspicion around Arisa, but another conversation quickly gives her a new person to watch. Sherry Kuehl tells Abby that there cannot be three female Traitors, which Abby interprets as strangely confident knowledge about the hidden group.

Abby shares the comment with Logan Smith, Kriste Lewis, Abbey Benjamin and Clyde Moser. To them, Sherry’s certainty becomes suspicious because an ordinary Faithful should not know the exact gender makeup of the Traitors.

It is another example of how New Blood’s Faithfuls keep turning casual statements into evidence. Sherry has not revealed any secret information, but the comment is enough to place her name into circulation. For Joe, that is useful.

Why Do the Traitors Choose Logan?

When Joe, Tomica and Katie meet privately, Joe tells his partners that suspicion around Sherry could potentially be allowed to grow without their involvement. Their own decision comes down to Logan, Abby and Mark Zgoda.

Abby has quietly begun considering Tomica, making her a potential future problem. Mark is widely trusted, which makes his continued presence useful to the Faithfuls. Logan, however, has something even more dangerous: he remembers Xavier questioning Katie.

Joe and Tomica ultimately let their newest partner have significant influence over the decision. Katie chooses Logan, reasoning that he has been vocal enough to become inconvenient but that his suspicions are not yet so developed that his sudden absence will automatically expose her.

At breakfast, the contestants learn that Logan is out of the game. The Faithfuls immediately sense that the choice feels more calculated than some of the earlier eliminations, even if they do not yet know why.

The Death Parade Forces Players to Sacrifice Safety

The third mission gives the episode its title and creates another layer of uncertainty around the castle. The players must move barrels containing $24,000 worth of gold through a course while staying ahead of the Death Parade. Gates block their route, and progressing requires contestants to make difficult choices about who will remain behind. Anyone caught by the parade becomes vulnerable to the Traitors’ next overnight decision.

At the first gate, Victor, Mark, Niyyah and Morgan Cook remain behind. Tomica and Kriste are caught at the second stage, while Joe, Clyde, Sherry and Abby are left at the third.

Because Joe and Tomica are secretly Traitors, they are not genuine options for their own group’s next selection. That effectively leaves eight Faithfuls exposed: Victor, Mark, Niyyah, Morgan, Kriste, Clyde, Sherry and Abby. The group manages to bring $12,000 to the finish, increasing the prize pot to $77,000.

Jay Deliberately Creates Chaos

For much of Episode 4, the mission itself is almost secondary to what Jay is doing socially. Jay reveals privately that some of his confusing behavior is intentional. His theory is that if he becomes a chaotic Faithful who attracts suspicion and disrupts conversations, the Traitors may prefer to leave him in the castle because he can help turn Faithfuls against one another.

There is logic behind the idea. A Faithful who repeatedly creates incorrect theories can become useful cover for the people actually hiding something. The problem is that Jay pushes the strategy so hard that his own allies begin losing patience with him.

During the mission, he repeatedly suggests that he has valuable information while resisting pressure to clearly explain it. Other contestants become frustrated as the group tries to complete the challenge, and Jay realizes that several of his relationships are approaching a breaking point. His strategy may make him useful to the Traitors, but it could also get him removed by the Faithfuls first.

Why Does Jay Suspect Katie?

Beneath Jay’s theatrics, however, there appears to be a legitimate theory. Michael begins to reconsider whether Jay’s behavior should cause everyone to dismiss what he is saying. Jay may be creating unnecessary confusion, but he is also a physician who believes he has been collecting information about Katie over several days. Katie already has an uncomfortable trail behind her.

Xavier expressed suspicion about her before leaving. Logan remembered that conversation. The crypt clue then revealed that two contestants had competed in plain sight for the opportunity to become a Traitor, and Kriste came remarkably close to correctly theorizing that Xavier may have been the loser in that competition.

The Faithfuls do not yet know how those details connect, but Jay appears ready to put Katie directly in the center of the discussion.

Episode 4 Ends With Katie in the Spotlight

The episode closes as the third Round Table begins rather than completing another banishment. Jay promises to be more concise this time and names Katie as the person he currently believes is a Traitor. After spending much of the episode irritating his fellow Faithfuls, he has finally arrived at the correct target.

That creates an unusual cliffhanger heading into Episode 5. Jay has the right answer, but his own strategy may have damaged his credibility so badly that the group no longer wants to follow him.

Katie, meanwhile, faces her first real test since joining Joe and Tomica. Her social position helped her win the Accomplice battle against Xavier, but Xavier’s observations have continued spreading even after his departure.

Episode 4 therefore ends with the Faithfuls closer to their first genuine breakthrough than they realize. The question is whether Jay can make a convincing case before his earlier chaos gets in the way.
