Apollo Has Fallen quickly gives Zara Taylor another reason to question the intelligence network around her. After the Benghazi operation exposes signs of a much wider conspiracy, Zara begins to suspect that Yuri Mishkin and Voltov are receiving information from someone inside MI6. Andrew Leviston initially appears to be the obvious suspect because of his…
The first episode of American Hostage leaves Fred Heckman waiting behind a WIBC microphone. Episode 2, “McMahon, Martinis & Madness,” shows him discovering the cost of saying yes. What begins as an extraordinary live interview quickly changes Fred’s position in the crisis, because Tony Kiritsis is not interested in speaking to the media generally. He…
Lioness Season 3 spends weeks sending Joe McNamara and the CIA in different directions as they try to understand who arranged her kidnapping. Russia initially appears responsible, Iran becomes the next major possibility, and Oleksandra Balakin is ultimately blamed for supposedly manipulating the United States on Ukraine’s behalf. The Season 3 finale overturns that theory…
MGM+’s American Hostage opens not with the crisis that will soon take over Indianapolis, but with the ordinary machinery of a local radio station. Fred Heckman is comfortable behind a microphone, delivering city news, celebrating local achievements on his “My Town Indy” segment and running the WIBC newsroom with the confidence of someone who knows…
Lioness Season 3 has pushed Joe McNamara closer to the edge than either of the show’s previous seasons, turning a foreign-intelligence investigation into an operation that reaches directly into her home, marriage and physical survival. With The Unraveling bringing the eight-episode season to its conclusion on September 20, attention is naturally shifting toward what Taylor…
Lioness Season 3 Episode 8, The Unraveling, begins with Joe McNamara physically free but psychologically unable to leave the mission behind. Her rescue in the previous episode has not answered the question that matters most to her: who knew enough about a senior CIA officer to place a bounty on her, organize an abduction near…
Oleksandra Balakin has spent most of Lioness Season 3 existing in the uncomfortable space between valuable intelligence source and suspected manipulator. She helps lead the CIA to Alexis Yurimov, provides information that exposes foreign networks inside the United States and receives Witness Protection in return, only for Joe’s kidnapping to place every decision she made…
Lioness Season 3 has repeatedly encouraged viewers to believe they finally understand who is manipulating Joe McNamara, only to replace one explanation with another. Her kidnapping first appears Russian, then develops an Iranian connection through Babat, before Episode 7 introduces an even more disruptive possibility involving Ukraine and Oleksandra Balakin. The suspicion surrounding Oleksa is…
Anna and Frederick’s argument about UFO sightings would normally be little more than an amusing way to pass a drive through the park. Then a naked man steps into the road, his skin glowing in green and blue tones, and tells them that he remembers falling from the sky. He cannot supply his name, explain…
Anna Pigeon Episode 7, “The Three Matt Skweikis,” briefly looks as though it has wandered into science fiction. Anna and Frederick Stanton are driving through the park while arguing about UFO sightings when a naked man, glowing an unnatural green-blue color, suddenly appears in the road. He has no idea who he is, claims he…
Plastic Beauty spends most of its eight episodes placing Fumi Numata and Rin Tohyama on opposite sides of the same argument. Fumi enters cosmetic medicine believing doctors should focus on health rather than appearance, while Rin has built her career around the idea that changing how someone looks can sometimes change how that person feels…
Netflix’s Turkish psychological drama Not a Stranger ends its first season without resolving the conflict between Funda and Nazlı, making a second season an obvious question after the eight-episode debut. Funda finally begins recovering after weeks of confusion and emotional instability, but she still does not know the most important truth about what was happening…
