Netflix’s Who Is Martin Mull? carries an unusual second story behind the one unfolding on screen. The documentary celebrates Martin Mull’s career as a comedian, musician, actor and painter, but it also represents one of the final creative projects of Bob Saget, who began filming Mull years before either man’s passing. What started as Saget’s…
Netflix’s Who Is Martin Mull? is built around a question that sounds simple until the documentary begins trying to answer it. Martin Mull was recognizable to several generations as a comedian and actor, from Fernwood 2 Night and Clue to Roseanne, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Arrested Development, but those credits only explain part of…
‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ enters a very different phase in Episodes 6 through 8, as the romantic escape of Zanzibar gives way to ordinary life and increasingly serious conversations about marriage. Once the couples return home, questions about work, money, family approval, communication and physical chemistry become impossible to avoid. Several relationships that survived the…
‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ begins Episode 6 with Yasemin and Roel facing a problem that has become increasingly difficult to ignore. Their emotional connection inside the pods had been strong enough for Roel to propose, but meeting in person did not deepen the relationship in the way Yasemin hoped. She kept waiting for romantic attraction…
Mirella and Gino’s relationship does not fall apart because of one explosive argument, which makes their ending considerably quieter than some of the other breakups in ‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands.’ The problem is more fundamental: Mirella believes their engagement deserves greater effort, while Gino gradually realizes that his romantic feelings are not growing. Their time…
Meinou and Marc-Vincent appear capable of imagining a future together when ‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ keeps them inside the romantic bubble of the experiment. The difficulty begins when ordinary life forces them to discuss what that future would actually require, particularly around work, money and financial responsibility. Marc-Vincent sees those conversations as practical preparation for…
Jaslynn and Ludo spend much of ‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ trying to solve the same emotional problem in slightly different forms. They remain attracted to each other, share genuinely enjoyable moments and repeatedly recover after disagreements, but they never fully agree on what emotional support should look like in a relationship. Ludo wants affection and…
“Carrie” Season 1 reaches the event that has ended almost every previous version of Stephen King’s story, but Mike Flanagan’s Prime Video adaptation does something unexpected once prom night is over: it keeps going. Carrie White is alive, Emaline has taken her out of Chamberlain, a wider network of people with psychic abilities has moved…
Among all the new material Mike Flanagan adds to “Carrie,” Emaline may be the addition that changes the story most dramatically. Played by Thalia Dudek, who is officially listed among the Prime Video series regulars, Emaline enters Carrie’s life as a sarcastic, unusually perceptive outsider who appears to understand her long before anyone at Ewen…
Mike Flanagan’s “Carrie” begins with a story almost everyone thinks they know, then spends eight episodes quietly preparing to take it somewhere Stephen King’s original novel never did. Prime Video’s first television-series adaptation follows Summer H. Howell’s Carrie White from an intensely sheltered childhood into public school, where social media turns an already difficult adolescence…
The Challenge has turned plenty of reality television newcomers into long-term franchise names, but Tori Deal has become one of the clearest examples of someone building a career far beyond her original casting. Viewers first met her on Are You the One? before she moved into The Challenge, where repeated finals, rivalries, relationships and eventually…
The Challenge has produced arguments over alliances, money, hookups and betrayals for decades, but Season 42 Episode 11 manages to build an entire storyline around Johnny Bananas’ underwear. The episode is officially titled Underwear Gate, and the mystery begins while tensions surrounding Anna Leigh Wilson and Bananas are already becoming uncomfortable inside the house. Lete…
