Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 7, The Pyramid, turns the Box from a dangerous personal experiment into something with consequences that could spread across entire worlds. Blair discovers just how far Leighton has taken the technology, Amanda and Ryan learn that another version of their journey may have helped trigger a devastating outbreak, and Charlie secretly enters the Corridor looking for the twin brother he lost as a child.
The episode moves between those stories without treating any of them as separate adventures. Each comes back to the same problem: people keep believing the multiverse can give them something better, but every attempt to use it creates consequences they cannot fully predict.

Amanda and Ryan Discover the Black Iris Plague
Amanda and Ryan remain detained in the unfamiliar Chicago they entered earlier in Season 2. Officials finally explain why the city is under such extreme restrictions. A highly dangerous illness called the Black Iris Plague is spreading rapidly, and another Ryan Holder appears to be directly connected to its arrival.
Investigators tell Ryan that they found his sister Camilla and need him to confirm her identity. This world’s records say Ryan Holder died years earlier, making his presence even more difficult to explain. More importantly, another version of Ryan entered through the Shikaakwa Park Box weeks before Amanda and Ryan arrived and became the earliest infected traveler authorities could trace.
Amanda realizes that their earlier journey may have produced alternate versions of themselves in the same way Jason’s decisions inside the Corridor created multiple Jasons. One of those Ryans apparently picked up the illness elsewhere and carried it into this world.
The Ryan we follow still feels responsible. He may not have personally brought the plague, but another version of him did, leaving him unable to separate himself emotionally from the damage.
What Is Leighton’s Pyramid?
Blair finally sees the project Leighton revealed at the end of Episode 6. He calls it the Pyramid, partly because ancient pyramids were associated with passage into another existence, but its real importance comes from its size.
Leighton’s team is no longer casually exploring the multiverse. They have visited 74 worlds and created a catalog showing who traveled there, when they went and what valuable technology each reality possesses.
Another Ryan Holder, native to this reality, is also developing a slow-release patch for the drug needed to enter the Box. If successful, travelers could remain prepared for multiverse travel for weeks without repeatedly injecting themselves.
The Pyramid itself is essentially an industrial-scale Box. It is large enough to move far more than a few people, although its enormous shielding requirements create major technical problems. At the moment, the machine can operate for only about 20 minutes before losing power, meaning anyone caught in another reality could become stranded.
Why Did Leighton Build a Bigger Box?
Leighton’s goal sounds almost noble when he explains it to Blair. He has visited worlds where scientists solved environmental and technological problems that still threaten other realities. In one case, he found advanced carbon scrubbers capable of repairing severe atmospheric damage.
Instead of merely carrying blueprints home and waiting years for the machines to be constructed, the Pyramid could move the machinery itself. Blair realizes a semitruck could pass through the opening, but she also sees the danger immediately. Something large enough to transport industrial equipment could also move soldiers or weapons. Leighton counters by pointing out that it could transport refugees from a dying world.
That exchange defines the argument at the heart of Episode 7. The Pyramid could save millions of people, but the technology has no way of distinguishing a humanitarian mission from something catastrophic.
Blair Explains Why She No Longer Trusts the Box
Leighton wants Blair to return to the project, especially after discovering that Jason2 has also ended up in the same reality. To him, their reunion feels almost like fate. Blair sees it very differently because her own experiences inside the Corridor changed how she views everything they built.
She explains that her first journeys went relatively well because she entered the Box with hope. Once she became frightened, however, that fear began shaping the worlds she reached. Each dangerous reality made her more anxious, which pushed her toward even worse destinations.
Eventually Blair reached a world whose destruction she believes she caused. She tells Leighton that billions of people were affected and says she “killed a whole world.”
Leighton argues that the Box has also saved worlds and believes better procedures could make it manageable. Blair rejects that confidence. The multiverse reacts to consciousness, choices and branching possibilities in ways none of them fully understand, so increasing the scale only increases the possible consequences.
She refuses to join the Pyramid project and leaves. Sandra, Leighton’s partner, immediately orders someone to watch Blair because she has now seen everything.
Charlie Secretly Goes Looking for Max
Daniela discovers Charlie is missing when she calls Eduardo on Charlie’s birthday. Eduardo says Charlie left town to visit a friend, then gives Daniela the name that immediately explains everything: Max.
Jason’s confession in Episode 6 has changed Charlie. He now knows Jason once found a reality where Max received a heart transplant and survived. Instead of accepting that as an emotional glimpse of what might have been, Charlie decides to enter the Box and search for his brother himself.
After roughly a day of traveling, Charlie reaches the home of a woman named Laurel. She already understands the Box because Jason and Amanda once appeared unexpectedly in her house along with it. Laurel is surprised to meet Charlie because, despite encountering travelers before, she has never met a version of him.
Charlie admits that he barely remembers Max because they were only four when his twin died. Laurel advises him to focus on a real emotional memory rather than trying to imagine the adult Max Jason described. Charlie remembers a childhood video of himself and Max laughing while Jason raked leaves around them, giving him something genuine to use as an anchor.
Daniela Finally Understands What the Multiverse Triggered in Her
Daniela’s stay with Gabriel also helps explain why living among alternate versions of Jason has affected her so deeply. She tells him that her biological father could be caring at one moment and frightening at another, leaving her uncertain which version of him she would encounter.
Seeing multiple Jasons brought that childhood instability back. The Box did not create Daniela’s underlying fear, but it forced her to relive the feeling that someone she loved could suddenly become a different person.
Gabriel reminds Daniela that even though she is not technically his daughter, he still recognizes the person he helped raise. Their reunion gives Daniela some emotional clarity, but once she learns Charlie has disappeared, Gabriel encourages her to return to her family and find him.
Does Amanda Die in Dark Matter Episode 7?
Amanda and Ryan’s situation becomes more dangerous after medical testing fails to explain why they survived the plague. Authorities begin focusing on the Box itself, while outside governments prepare to take custody of the pair for more aggressive questioning.
This world’s Leighton secretly helps them escape. He tells them to find another version of him, ideally one working in humanitarian medicine, and return with a cure for the Black Iris Plague.
Amanda and Ryan race toward the Box through a heavily restricted Chicago while an ally creates a diversion. Security spots them before they can safely escape, and Amanda suddenly collapses as Ryan desperately calls her name.
Episode 7 does not confirm that Amanda dies. Her condition is deliberately left unresolved, so any claim that she is dead would go beyond what the episode actually shows.
Dark Matter Episode 7 Ending Explained: Does Charlie Find Max?
The closing sequence returns to Charlie as he uses Laurel’s advice inside the Corridor. Instead of concentrating on the adult brother he never knew, Charlie focuses on the childhood connection he still carries.
He calls out to Max and says, “It’s Charlie,” before reaching the emotional realization that seems to unlock the destination: “I remember you.”
The ending strongly suggests Charlie has reached a reality where Max survived, but it does not yet establish that this is the exact Max Jason previously met. In an infinite multiverse, there may be countless worlds where Max lived.
That uncertainty makes Charlie’s decision more dangerous than it first appears. Jason gave him a comforting story about his brother, but Charlie has turned that knowledge into a reason to chase another version of the life his family lost.
The same warning hangs over the Pyramid. Leighton believes more access to the multiverse means more solutions, while Blair believes it means more uncontrollable consequences. Episode 7 leaves both arguments alive, but Amanda’s plague world and Charlie’s disappearance make Blair’s fear increasingly difficult to dismiss.
