MobLand has spent much of Season 2 showing Conrad Harrigan that the danger around him is not limited to Frankie Cooper or Kat McAllister. Episode 4, “Blank Curtain,” brings that suspicion directly into his marriage when Conrad goes looking for bandages and discovers a bottle of antifreeze hidden among Maeve’s things. The object is not random, because Episode 2 had already shown Maeve deliberately asking a veterinarian what substance could be concealed in food or drink before settling on antifreeze as the answer. The timing of that earlier conversation strongly points toward Seraphina as Maeve’s intended target, although the series has still not explicitly confirmed that she planned to use it on her. Conrad’s discovery matters because he may finally have found physical evidence that Maeve has been making serious moves behind his back.
What Does Conrad Find While Looking for Bandages?
Conrad finds the antifreeze Maeve obtained earlier in the season, and his reaction makes clear that he understands it is more than an ordinary household item. He is looking for bandages after hurting himself when he comes across the bottle, and the scene pauses long enough on his discovery to connect it with Maeve’s earlier behavior. Conrad does not immediately confront her by naming what he found, which is important because the episode wants the audience to remember the setup before Maeve realizes what he knows. When he later stares at her, Maeve notices that something has changed and asks what is wrong with him. Conrad eventually tells her that “the bag’s off,” suggesting that he believes he has finally seen something about Maeve that he had previously ignored.

Why Was Maeve Looking for Antifreeze in Episode 2?
The answer goes back to a conversation that initially plays almost like one of Maeve’s dark jokes. After calling a veterinarian to the Harrigan estate, Maeve gradually steers their conversation away from the animals and toward substances that could be placed into food or drink without immediately drawing attention. The veterinarian mentions antifreeze, and Maeve listens closely rather than dismissing the idea as an offhand comment. Later in the episode, while speaking to Eddie, she suddenly finds the antifreeze she has been looking for. The sequence is staged too deliberately to be meaningless, especially because Maeve had already arranged a supposedly conciliatory dinner with Seraphina.
Was Seraphina Maeve’s Intended Target?
Seraphina is the strongest candidate because practically every part of Episode 2’s setup points in her direction. Maeve unexpectedly tells Conrad that she wants to make peace with Seraphina and encourages him to invite her to dinner, even though the hostility between the two women has been obvious for a long time. Conrad himself is suspicious of Maeve’s sudden change of heart, while Seraphina later remarks that Maeve does not simply sit down and talk without another motive. Soon afterward, Maeve questions the veterinarian about hiding something in food, finds the antifreeze and prepares for the dinner at Scott’s. Most importantly, Donnie contacts Seraphina shortly before the reservation and specifically tells her not to go, which prevents the meeting from happening at all.
None of that technically proves that Maeve intended to put antifreeze into Seraphina’s meal, because MobLand never shows Maeve preparing anything or admitting the plan aloud. The series instead builds the implication through editing and timing, allowing viewers to connect Maeve’s invitation, the veterinarian’s conversation and Seraphina’s unexplained warning. Donnie somehow knows enough to tell Seraphina to stay away from the restaurant without cancelling, which makes the warning feel connected to something more serious than another Harrigan argument. Seraphina’s absence also explains why the antifreeze is still around for Conrad to discover in Episode 4. The most convincing interpretation, therefore, is that Maeve had prepared some kind of plan involving Seraphina but lost her opportunity when Seraphina never arrived.
Could Maeve Have Been Planning Something Against Gina Instead?
Gina is the strongest alternative explanation because the antifreeze scene also occurs during Maeve’s conversation with Eddie about Harry’s daughter. Maeve has made no secret of her dislike for Gina and repeatedly pushes Eddie to separate from her, believing Gina interferes with whatever future she has imagined for him. During that phone call, Maeve asks whether Eddie has gotten rid of Gina, then later finds the antifreeze and gives Eddie a 24-hour deadline. Taken in isolation, the editing could make it appear that the antifreeze and Gina are part of the same plan. Episode 4 makes that possibility worth considering again because Maeve’s interest in controlling Eddie and Gina has only intensified.
The problem with the Gina theory is that Maeve never tells Eddie to use the antifreeze, nor does she connect the bottle directly to his ultimatum. Her demand that he deal with Gina appears to be one thread, while the planned dinner with Seraphina is another thread already established before the veterinarian arrives. Maeve also specifically asked how something could be concealed in food or a drink, which fits a restaurant meeting much more naturally than her conversation with Eddie. Donnie’s last-minute warning to Seraphina is another piece that the Gina theory does not easily explain. Gina cannot be completely ruled out, but Seraphina remains the better-supported target based on what the episodes have actually shown.
Why Does Conrad Say “The Bag’s Off” to Maeve?
Conrad’s line suggests that the antifreeze has changed the way he sees his wife. Maeve has spent much of the season insisting that Harry is manipulating Conrad and preventing him from recognizing who is truly loyal to him. She tells Conrad that Harry has effectively put a bag over his head, leaving him unable to see what is happening around him. After finding the antifreeze, Conrad turns her own metaphor back on her and says that the bag is now off. The implication is that what he has finally begun to see may be Maeve herself rather than Harry.
That realization is particularly important because Conrad has historically tolerated Maeve’s schemes even when he knows she is manipulating people around them. Their relationship has always included a strange understanding that Maeve will push, provoke and interfere while Conrad ultimately protects the family structure they built together. Antifreeze is different because it appears to give Conrad evidence of a plan he was not included in and may never have approved. He still does not know every detail, but he now has reason to wonder what Maeve intended and how far she was prepared to go without telling him. His suspicion therefore arrives at exactly the wrong moment for a family already divided between Conrad, Kevin, Seraphina and Harry.
What Does the Antifreeze Discovery Mean for Maeve?
Episode 4 does not resolve Maeve’s plan because Conrad leaves before forcing a full explanation from her. He tells Maeve that they will talk when he returns, while she assumes their argument will be about Harry rather than what Conrad has found. That gives Conrad an unusual advantage because Maeve does not yet seem to understand how much he has pieced together. The discovery could also become important if Seraphina learns that the dinner she avoided may have carried a much greater risk than she realized. For now, MobLand gives viewers enough evidence to conclude that Conrad found the antifreeze from Maeve’s earlier scheme, while leaving the final question of exactly what she planned to do with it deliberately unresolved.
