The Perfect Lie spends seven episodes exposing the secrets holding its affluent Dinner Club together, and by the finale, several of those lies have finally collapsed. Evert’s death has an explanation, Karen’s affair is no longer hidden, and the financial crimes surrounding Simon and Patricia have come into the open. Yet the series saves one of its most important mysteries for the final minutes. Hanneke begins showing signs of consciousness just as an unidentified hooded visitor enters her hospital room and locks the door. For a thriller adapted from a novel, it is a conspicuously unfinished note on which to leave the story.

Has Netflix Renewed The Perfect Lie for Season 2?
Netflix has not announced The Perfect Lie Season 2 as of September 12, 2026. The first season only arrived worldwide on September 10, making any renewal decision extremely early at this stage. Netflix’s official page currently lists the 2026 drama and its first-season trailer, while the company’s release material describes The Perfect Lie as a seven-part series without announcing another installment.
There is also no official Season 2 production schedule, returning cast announcement or release date. Any dates circulating online at the moment should therefore be treated as predictions rather than confirmed information. With the series having been available for only a matter of days, Netflix still has time to assess how strongly it performs with viewers internationally.
The company has not described Season 1 as the beginning of a multi-season order either. For now, The Perfect Lie is simply a newly released series whose future remains undecided.
Why Hanneke’s Hospital Scene Feels Like a Season 2 Setup
Hanneke is the clearest reason the story could continue. Although the finale establishes Babette’s role in the fire that killed Evert, it does not identify the person responsible for Hanneke falling from the balcony. Her coma conveniently prevents her from telling police what happened, making her memory potentially the final piece of that case.
That changes in the last episode when Karen visits the hospital and Hanneke responds to her touch. Karen leaves the room to find medical help, but before anyone returns, a hooded person carrying a heart-shaped balloon enters and locks the door. The person’s face is never shown, and the season ends without revealing whether the visitor has come to comfort Hanneke, threaten her or stop her from speaking.
It is the kind of cliffhanger that can function in two ways. If The Perfect Lie remains a one-season story, the unidentified visitor leaves one final disturbing secret hanging over the Dinner Club. If Netflix orders another season, the scene provides an immediate mystery to resume without inventing an entirely new premise.

Who Pushed Hanneke Could Become the Main Season 2 Mystery
A second season would almost certainly have to return to Hanneke’s fall before moving anywhere else. Patricia remains particularly suspicious because the attack occurred at her house, she had access to the property and her account of where she spent the evening does not completely match what viewers see.
The finale nevertheless stops short of proving Patricia pushed Hanneke. That distinction matters because the show has repeatedly encouraged viewers to settle on a convenient culprit before introducing another version of events. Babette’s story with Evert demonstrates how easily the truth can be buried beneath a believable explanation.
Hanneke waking would change the investigation more dramatically than any new physical evidence. She may remember who she was arguing with before the fall, whether she was deliberately pushed and what information the attacker wanted hidden. Her testimony could also reshape relationships that currently appear to have reached some form of resolution.
The hooded visitor complicates matters further. If that person is connected to the original attack, Hanneke may be in immediate danger. If not, the visitor could introduce another secret that has yet to be explained.
Karen and Michel’s Story Is Not Completely Finished Either
Karen and Michel end Season 1 in a cautiously hopeful place rather than with a traditional reconciliation. Karen’s affair with Simon almost destroys the marriage, and Michel leaves after she finally confesses what happened. Their daughter also chooses to stay with him, leaving Karen to confront the consequences of the life she built after joining the Dinner Club.
By the finale, Karen says she and Michel are going on a date. It is a modest development, but that appears intentional. Their relationship is being rebuilt from the beginning rather than restored to the version that existed before Karen’s affair.
A second season could therefore keep Karen as the show’s central perspective without simply repeating the same marital storyline. Her friendship with Hanneke gives her a personal reason to pursue the truth about the balcony attack, while her damaged connections with Simon and Patricia ensure that the old Dinner Club would remain part of her life.
Loes Haverkort’s Karen is also the character through whom the audience first entered the group, making her the most natural anchor if the adaptation continues beyond Saskia Noort’s original premise.
Simon and Patricia Still Have Plenty to Lose
Simon and Patricia escape the first season without their lives collapsing as completely as they might have. Their financial crimes become known, but Patricia’s family influence helps protect them from the worst consequences. Karen’s affair with Simon is exposed as well, yet Patricia appears willing to preserve their marriage.
That does not necessarily mean the relationship has recovered. Simon finishes the season in a position where Patricia has even more power over him, while Patricia remains connected to one of the finale’s central unanswered mysteries.
If Hanneke identifies Patricia as the person who attacked her, everything changes. If she names somebody else, Patricia’s suspicious behavior suddenly requires a different explanation. Either outcome gives the show material beyond the question of whether Simon and Patricia remain together.
Ivo’s story is similarly unfinished. His decision to finally be honest about his sexuality comes at almost exactly the moment Hanneke begins to wake, meaning the couple has not yet had the conversation that could redefine their marriage.
Would Season 2 Still Be Based on The Dinner Club?
A continuation would likely require the Netflix series to move further away from Saskia Noort’s The Dinner Club rather than simply adapting more of the same novel. Netflix has always presented The Perfect Lie as an adaptation of Noort’s bestseller, but creator Dorien Goertzen has also been open about changing the material.
When Netflix first announced the series, Goertzen described the process as “reinventing” the familiar story for television. The adaptation uses its own structure and updates the characters rather than functioning as a scene-for-scene recreation of the novel.
That creative freedom becomes especially relevant after the finale. The television version deliberately preserves mysteries and relationship threads that could continue beyond the immediate Evert investigation. A second season would therefore not need to find another section of the original novel waiting to be adapted. It could expand the version of Bergen and the Dinner Club already created for Netflix.
The Perfect Lie Has a Route to Season 2, but No Renewal Yet
The finale clearly gives The Perfect Lie somewhere to go. Hanneke is waking, her attacker remains unidentified, the hospital visitor is deliberately concealed, and several of the Dinner Club’s supposedly resolved relationships remain fragile. None of those threads requires another season, but together they create a ready-made continuation if Netflix wants one.
What happens next will depend less on the cliffhanger than on how the series performs after its September 10 release. Netflix has made no Season 2 announcement, and there is currently no confirmed timetable for when such a decision might arrive. The safest conclusion for now is that the story has been written with room to continue, not that a continuation has already been promised.
If Season 2 does happen, Hanneke’s first words after waking may matter more than anything the Dinner Club has managed to hide so far.
