“Ted Lasso” Season 4 may have reached its finale, but Episode 10 does not feel like the end of the show’s latest chapter. Instead of closing every storyline, “Being Alive” rearranges AFC Richmond once again. Roy Kent accepts the Chelsea job, Ted expresses interest in the newly vacant men’s team position, Alice appears ready for greater responsibility with the Lady Greyhounds, and Rebecca retains control of the club after Mae Green’s final intervention.

All of that leaves plenty of material for another season. However, as of the Season 4 finale, Apple TV has not officially announced “Ted Lasso” Season 5. The encouraging part is that the show’s creative team has already discussed this revived phase as something potentially larger than a single season, while the finale itself leaves several obvious stories open.

Has Ted Lasso Been Renewed for Season 5?

No. Apple TV has not officially renewed “Ted Lasso” for Season 5 at the time of the Season 4 finale. The fourth season consists of 10 episodes and concludes with Episode 10 on October 7, 2026.

That does not mean Season 4 was necessarily designed as another final season. The circumstances are very different from the end of Season 3, which was structured around Ted returning to Kansas and leaving AFC Richmond behind. Season 4 brought him back to England and introduced an entirely new football project through Richmond’s women’s team.

Jason Sudeikis has also discussed the revived version of “Ted Lasso” as potentially forming another three-season arc. Reporting around Season 4 indicated that the idea was for this new phase to mirror the broad three-season shape of the original run, with further story development beyond Season 4 being considered.

That still falls short of an official renewal, but it makes the Season 4 finale’s open-ended structure much easier to understand.

Ted Could Return to AFC Richmond’s Men’s Team

The clearest Season 5 setup arrives during Ted and Rebecca’s final conversation. Roy’s decision to accept Chelsea’s offer leaves AFC Richmond without the manager who had taken over the men’s team after Ted originally returned to the United States.

Ted quickly recognizes the opening. When Rebecca asks what everyone is waiting for, Ted eventually asks whether the two of them can talk about her newly vacant manager position. The episode stops before Rebecca gives him an answer, but the implication is difficult to miss.

Ted could be preparing to become AFC Richmond’s men’s manager again.

That would create a very different setup from Season 4. Ted returned to Richmond specifically to build the women’s team, and much of the season was about helping the Lady Greyhounds establish themselves. By the finale, however, Alice Chilton has grown substantially as a coach and the women’s side finally attracts a packed Nelson Road crowd.

Season 5 could therefore begin with another coaching transition. Ted could return to the men’s team while Alice takes greater control of the Lady Greyhounds, allowing both sides of AFC Richmond to remain central to the story.

What Happens to the Lady Greyhounds in Season 5?

The finale makes it difficult to imagine the women’s team simply disappearing from the show. Season 4 was built around their rise, and Episode 10 ends with one of the clearest signs that Rebecca’s project has succeeded: Nelson Road is full for the team’s final match.

Shannon Stone also makes her first start, while Alice has developed from a reluctant and frequently uncertain coach into someone capable of carrying much more responsibility. If Ted moves back to the men’s team, Alice becoming the Lady Greyhounds’ head coach would be a natural continuation of her Season 4 arc.

That would also allow a fifth season to follow two Richmond teams rather than abandoning one for the other. The men’s side could regain more prominence through Ted, while Alice, Gemma, Shannon and the rest of the Lady Greyhounds continue their own progression.

The structure would give “Ted Lasso” a way to reconnect with the original football setup without undoing everything Season 4 introduced.

Roy Kent at Chelsea Could Become a Major Season 5 Story

Roy Kent’s departure from Richmond is another storyline that feels designed to continue rather than conclude. Chelsea offer Roy their head coaching job, and after considerable hesitation, he decides to accept it.

His decision does not end his connection to Richmond. Rebecca makes it clear that the door remains open if things do not work out, while Ted congratulates him rather than treating the move as a betrayal.

That creates an obvious football rivalry for Season 5. If Ted becomes Richmond’s men’s manager while Roy manages Chelsea, the two could eventually find themselves coaching against each other in the Premier League.

The emotional dynamic would be very different from a traditional rivalry. Roy learned under Ted before eventually becoming Richmond’s manager, and Ted has always wanted him to succeed. Seeing mentor and former assistant on opposite touchlines would give the series a football storyline with years of character history behind it.

Roy’s relationship with Keeley would remain equally important. With Keeley pregnant, Roy is entering fatherhood at exactly the same time he is taking the biggest coaching job of his career. Season 5 could explore whether Roy can balance the version of success he has always understood with the family life he once struggled to believe he deserved.

Roy and Keeley’s Baby Could Change Both Characters

Roy and Keeley’s reconciliation becomes even more significant when Keeley discovers that she is pregnant. Roy reacts positively to the news, but the finale makes clear that becoming a father frightens him.

His conversation with the Diamond Dogs shows that Roy is worried about whether he can actually be a good parent. Rather than resolving those fears immediately, the finale allows him to accept that he does not need certainty before moving forward.

That makes the pregnancy an obvious Season 5 storyline. Roy could be navigating Chelsea, impending fatherhood and his continuing emotional growth at the same time, while Keeley would face major changes of her own.

The series has spent years moving Roy toward a point where he can accept happiness without assuming it will disappear. Season 5 could finally test whether he can maintain that progress when his professional and personal lives become more demanding than ever.

Rebecca and Matthijs Could Get Married in Season 5

Rebecca also ends Season 4 by making a major decision. Rather than continuing to wait for the perfect moment, she asks Matthijs to marry her, and he accepts.

That means a fifth season already has a potential wedding storyline waiting. More importantly, Rebecca enters the next chapter of the show in a very different position from where she started.

Mae’s final 2 percent share leaves Rebecca back in control of AFC Richmond, Zelda’s takeover attempt has failed, and Rebecca no longer appears consumed by what Rupert did to her. She has control of the club and a relationship she actually wants.

Season 5 could therefore explore Rebecca managing stability rather than constantly fighting to regain it. Zelda remaining involved as a minority shareholder also means the ownership story may not be completely finished.

What Could Ted’s Season 5 Story Be?

Ted’s biggest unfinished story may be his attempt to balance Richmond with Henry. Season 4 repeatedly reminds him that returning to England has consequences, particularly when his coaching commitments cause him to miss parts of Henry’s life.

The finale shows Ted trying to change that pattern. He promises Henry that he will organize things differently, and he finally decides to tell him the truth about his grandfather’s death rather than continuing with the simplified version Henry had previously been given.

Those scenes suggest that Ted’s next story would not simply be about football. He is trying to become more open with his son while building a life in England that does not require him to choose between parenting and coaching.

Returning to Richmond’s men’s team could therefore be only half of the Season 5 setup. The larger question would be whether Ted can finally create a sustainable life instead of constantly moving between responsibilities and relationships.

When Could Ted Lasso Season 5 Be Released?

There is currently no official Season 5 release date because Apple TV has not announced another season. Any premiere window at this stage would therefore be speculative.

There have nevertheless been encouraging signs behind the scenes. Reports surrounding the fourth season said the revived “Ted Lasso” story had been discussed as another possible three-season arc and that further story development was being considered.

If Apple officially orders Season 5, the timetable will depend on when scripts, cast schedules and production are finalized. Until Apple announces the renewal, however, there is no reliable reason to treat any specific 2027 or 2028 date as confirmed.

Will There Be a Ted Lasso Season 5?

“Ted Lasso” Season 5 has not been officially confirmed, but Season 4 certainly leaves room for it. In fact, Episode 10 creates a cleaner continuation setup than a definitive ending.

Ted appears interested in managing Richmond’s men again, Alice is positioned to take greater responsibility with the Lady Greyhounds, Roy is heading to Chelsea, Keeley is expecting their child, and Rebecca is newly engaged while remaining in control of AFC Richmond. None of those developments requires another season, but together they provide several ready-made storylines if Apple chooses to continue.

The biggest reason for optimism is that Season 4 itself was conceived as the beginning of a new phase rather than merely an epilogue to the original three seasons. Until Apple makes an announcement, Season 5 remains unconfirmed. But after the way “Being Alive” ends, AFC Richmond’s story clearly has somewhere else to go.
