Average Joe returned after a long absence with a second season that took Joe Washington and his friends far beyond Pittsburgh, sending the group to Cape Town as Teddy’s hidden life opened up an entirely new chapter of the story. Paramount+ released the eight-episode season beginning August 19, 2026, with the finale arriving on September 30.

The finale does not treat Season 2 like the end of Joe’s story. Several of the mysteries surrounding Teddy reach conclusions, but the closing minutes deliberately introduce another problem that could carry directly into a third season. That naturally raises the bigger question after Episode 8: has Average Joe actually been renewed for Season 3?

Has Average Joe Been Renewed for Season 3?

As of September 30, 2026, Paramount+ has not publicly announced Average Joe Season 3. There is also no official Season 3 release date, production announcement or confirmed third-season cast at the time of writing.

That distinction is important because the absence of a renewal announcement does not mean the series has been canceled. Paramount+’s current official Average Joe material remains focused on Season 2, which the streamer identifies as an eight-episode season.

Some third-party episode databases have created confusion by displaying supposed ninth and tenth Season 2 episodes in October. The official Paramount+ information is the more reliable source here: Season 2 contains eight episodes, making the September 30 installment the season finale. TVMaze also lists an eight-episode order, while Paramount+’s own Season 2 guide says the same.

So viewers should not mistake those unofficial Episode 9 and Episode 10 listings for confirmation that more Season 2 episodes are coming.

Average Joe Has Waited a Long Time for Renewal Before

One reason not to expect an immediate Season 3 answer is the show’s unusual history between its first two seasons. Average Joe originally premiered on BET+ in June 2023, but the second-season renewal was not officially announced until June 6, 2024. Paramount’s announcement at the time noted that the show had become BET+’s No. 1 scripted drama during its debut week.

Season 2 then took considerably longer to reach viewers, eventually premiering on August 19, 2026. By that point, Average Joe had moved to Paramount+, which became the home of BET+ programming after the standalone BET+ service was folded into Paramount+.

Joe’s story moved from Pittsburgh to South Africa, while the series added Katlego Lebogang as Imani and Hakeem Kae-Kazim as Sipho alongside returning stars Deon Cole, Malcolm Barrett, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams and Michael Trucco.

Deon Cole, who plays Joe and also serves as an executive producer, discussed the new season as an opportunity to explore a more dramatic side of the character. Michael Trucco similarly described the Cape Town production as giving the show greater scale, with the location itself becoming an important part of the season rather than simply standing in for another city.

That creative expansion matters when considering the future of the series. Average Joe is no longer limited to the original question of what Teddy did before his supposed death. Season 2 establishes that the consequences of Teddy’s life can reach Joe from well outside Pittsburgh, giving the writers room to continue without simply repeating Season 1.

Does the Season 2 Finale Set Up Season 3?

Very clearly, although the finale stops short of announcing that another season is coming. Episode 8 resolves several major Season 2 conflicts, allowing Joe to finally understand much more about Teddy and the secrets that brought him to South Africa. But just as Joe and his friends believe they have reached the end of their Cape Town ordeal, a new threat emerges from the larger criminal network connected to Teddy’s missing shipment.

The important point for a Season 3 article is not to retell the entire final scene. The finale simply leaves Joe with a problem that has not been resolved by the time the credits roll, while the fates of people close to him remain uncertain.

That means Average Joe has a ready-made story to continue if Paramount+ orders another season. The show would not need to manufacture a fresh mystery months later because Season 2 deliberately ends with unfinished business.

Which Cast Members Could Return for Average Joe Season 3?

No Season 3 cast has been officially announced, so any returning lineup remains unconfirmed. Deon Cole remains the center of the series as Joe Washington, with Malcolm Barrett, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams and Michael Trucco forming the core group around him throughout Season 2. Paramount+ also added Katlego Lebogang and Hakeem Kae-Kazim to the second-season cast.

The finale leaves some characters in positions where their stories could continue, but that should not be confused with casting confirmation. Until Paramount+ announces a third season and its returning actors, reports claiming a complete Season 3 cast are speculative.

The same applies to Tammy Townsend as Angela and Ashley Olivia Fisher as Jennifer. Their story is deliberately left unresolved at the end of Episode 8, so the finale itself does not provide enough information to say exactly what their involvement in another season would look like.
