Sid Baker’s return in Slow Horses Season 6 does more than resolve one of the show’s longest-running questions. After River Cartwright spent years believing his former colleague was gone, Episode 3 reveals that Sid survived, underwent a lengthy recovery and was eventually relocated by MI5. Her attempt to live quietly did not last.

“Resurrection” reveals why Sid has suddenly emerged from hiding. Official travel documents have apparently been issued in her name for Russia, unfamiliar people have been looking for her, and she discovers information suggesting that somebody may have used her identity for an operation she knew nothing about. The episode does not yet reveal who is behind it, but Sid believes her continued existence has become inconvenient to whoever used her credentials.

What Happened to Sid Baker After Season 1?

Sid was seriously injured during the first season while she and River were investigating journalist Robert Hobden. She remained hospitalized for some time, but River was eventually led to believe that she had not survived.

There was always a clue that this explanation might not be true. Near the end of Season 1, Roddy searched for Sid and discovered something strange: there was no hospital record where he expected one, and MI5’s own database appeared to contain no record that Sidonie Baker had ever existed.

Season 6 confirms that the disappearance of those records was connected to Sid being kept out of sight rather than her being gone. She survived and went through a secret recovery process before being placed elsewhere under MI5 supervision.

Olivia Cooke has said that Sid returns after years of rehabilitation and still experiences lingering effects from what happened to her, including tremors and psychological strain.

Why Didn’t Sid Contact River?

River’s first reaction to seeing Sid is anger mixed with disbelief. He spent years thinking she was gone and feels that she could have found some way to tell him the truth.

Sid sees things very differently. Her life after Season 1 was controlled by circumstances River never experienced, and she had to focus on rebuilding herself while remaining outside the normal world of MI5.

Their disagreement also reveals how differently they remember their relationship. River has carried guilt over what happened to Sid, whereas Sid does not want her survival and recovery reduced to something River needs in order to feel better about himself.

The reunion therefore does not immediately restore their old partnership. They still trust each other’s instincts in the field, but there is considerable unfinished emotional business between them.

What Happened With Sid’s Russian Travel Documents?

The most important new information in Episode 3 concerns official documents issued in Sid’s name. Sid discovered that MI5 had apparently created travel documentation showing her identity being used in connection with Russia. When she questioned the Park about it, she was told that the paperwork was the result of a system problem.

Sid initially had little choice but to accept that explanation. Her suspicion increased when unfamiliar people subsequently arrived in the area where she had been quietly living and began looking for her.

That sequence makes a simple administrative error difficult to believe. If somebody has been operating under Sid’s identity, her continued existence creates the possibility that the deception could eventually be discovered.

What Does Sid Find on Anne’s Computer?

After escaping with River, Sid takes shelter at the home of an elderly woman named Anne. Once Anne accepts their MI5 credentials, Sid is able to use her computer to investigate the Russian connection.

Her search leads to information about a woman who has died in Russia. For Sid, the discovery appears to confirm that the travel documents were connected to something real rather than being an innocent technical mistake.

The episode does not fully explain who the woman was or exactly how Sid’s identity was used. It therefore stops short of confirming Sid’s complete theory.

What matters is that Sid now has evidence strong enough to believe somebody operated under her identity in Russia and that the people involved may want to make sure nobody can later challenge that identity.

Why Would Someone Use Sid Baker’s Identity?

Sid is unusually useful for that kind of operation because MI5 had already erased her from ordinary records. As far as River and most of Slough House knew, Sid was no longer alive. Her official footprint had also effectively disappeared, which could make her identity valuable to someone needing documentation that would be difficult to connect back to an active intelligence officer.

If an operative used Sid’s name while the real Sid remained hidden, few people would immediately notice the contradiction. The problem would begin only if Sid resurfaced and started asking questions.

That appears to be what has happened in Season 6. Sid investigated the documents, people began looking for her, and she now believes she has become the remaining loose end in somebody else’s operation.

Are the People Following River Also After Sid?

Episode 3 leaves this question deliberately unclear. When River and Sid escape David Cartwright’s house, two operatives follow them. Their behavior suggests that River may be their primary objective, which means they are not necessarily the same people Sid believes have been searching for her since the Russian document problem began.

That distinction could become important. Season 6 already contains several overlapping operations involving Frank Harkness, the missing Slough House files and the campaign against people connected to Lamb’s department.

Sid’s Russia problem may be another part of the same conspiracy, but Episode 3 has not yet established that connection. It is safer to say that Sid believes she is being pursued because of the misuse of her identity, while River is clearly already included among the people exposed by the stolen Slough House information.

Can Sid Still Trust Diana Taverner?

Sid’s instinct at the end of Episode 3 is revealing. Despite her concerns about what MI5 has done with her identity, she still wants to contact Diana Taverner and tell her what is happening.

That loyalty goes back to Season 1. Sid was not originally placed at Slough House because she had failed in the same way as most of Lamb’s agents. Diana had secretly assigned her there to keep an eye on River Cartwright.

Sid therefore has a longer and more complicated connection to Diana than River initially understood. Even after years away, she appears to believe Diana may be able to help her.

The timing makes that trust questionable. Lamb has just confronted Diana about missing physical Slough House files and the possibility that information has leaked from inside the Park, while Diana herself is under unusual pressure following her interview with Damien.

None of that proves Diana is involved in what happened to Sid. It does, however, mean that Sid is preparing to trust someone who may not currently understand how deeply MI5’s own systems have been compromised.

Why Is Sid Baker Being Hunted?

The clearest answer after Episode 3 is that Sid believes her MI5 identity was used for an unauthorized operation connected to Russia, and her survival now threatens whoever used it.

The Park told her the travel documents were simply a mistake, but strangers later came looking for her and her investigation uncovered a suspicious connection in Russia. Those events convince Sid that somebody wants to close the gap between the false identity and the real person whose name was used.

The episode still leaves important pieces unanswered. It does not reveal who authorized the documents, who actually travelled under Sid’s name, or whether the Russia mystery connects directly to the stolen Slough House files.

That uncertainty is what makes Sid’s decision to contact Diana so important. River and Lamb are increasingly suspicious of the Park, but Sid still believes someone inside MI5 may be able to help her. Whether that trust protects her or places her in even greater danger becomes one of the biggest questions left by Episode 3.
