Will There Be a Habeas Corpus Season 2? What the Ending Sets Up

Netflix’s Habeas Corpus closes its first season with Jonathan‘s case resolved, but the story itself is clearly not finished. Inez Franco succeeds in helping overturn Jonathan’s wrongful conviction, while Marina reveals that she is actually Larissa Linhares and that her mother, Eliane, has been imprisoned because of a case tied directly to Inez’s past. That final reveal gives the legal drama an obvious direction for another season, even though Netflix has not announced a renewal yet.

As of September 23, 2026, Habeas Corpus Season 2 has not been officially confirmed. Netflix’s current press material describes the newly released show as an eight-episode legal drama and does not mention a second season. Since all eight episodes only premiered on September 23, it is still far too early to treat the absence of a renewal as a sign that the series has been canceled.

Has Netflix Renewed Habeas Corpus for Season 2?

No. Netflix has not announced a second season, and there is currently no official production date, filming schedule or release window for new episodes. Any site claiming that Season 2 has already been confirmed would therefore be getting ahead of Netflix’s public announcements.

That is not unusual for a series that has only just arrived on the platform. Netflix will likely look at viewing numbers, completion rates and how strongly the show performs both in Brazil and internationally before deciding whether to continue it. She originally approached Inez under a false identity because she wanted to reopen Eliane’s case and hold Inez accountable for helping secure the conviction years earlier.

The twist becomes even more complicated when Larissa admits that Eliane was protecting her. The season flashes back to reveal that Larissa, while still a child, was responsible for starting the fire on a politician’s property, while Eliane accepted responsibility to protect her daughter. That makes the new review very different from Jonathan’s case because the group is not simply trying to prove that nothing happened.

Instead, Inez would have to examine whether Eliane received a just conviction when the full truth behind the incident was never properly considered. Larissa would also have to confront the fact that her mother’s imprisonment was partly the result of a sacrifice made for her.

Why Eliane’s Case Is Personal for Inez

Eliane’s case would force Inez to investigate her own past rather than somebody else’s mistakes. Season 1 establishes that Inez was involved in the legal process that helped send Eliane to prison, making this more than another case for the students to review. She would effectively be asking whether her own earlier work contributed to an unjust outcome.

That would continue one of the strongest themes of the first season. Inez spends much of Jonathan’s case criticizing institutions for refusing to reconsider old decisions, while the finale makes her face a judgment she once helped create herself. Season 2 could therefore test whether she applies the same standards to her own past that she demanded from Tina and the investigators in Jonathan’s case.

Larissa’s role would be equally complicated. She came to Inez wanting accountability, but she was also hiding the most important fact about what happened that night. Their new partnership would have to survive both women’s responsibility for the same case.

Would Jonathan Return in Season 2?

Jonathan’s main legal storyline is complete because the finale declares him innocent and allows him to leave prison. That means a second season would not need to center on another attempt to prove his innocence. However, his relationship with Larissa leaves a reason for him to remain part of the series.

Jonathan and Larissa admit that they love each other before his release, although the finale deliberately leaves their romantic future unresolved. Larissa is still entangled with Silas, while Jonathan is only beginning to rebuild a life after spending six years imprisoned.

A second season could therefore show what freedom actually means for Jonathan after the courtroom victory. His story would shift from proving innocence to dealing with everything the conviction took away from him.

What Happens to Tina If the Series Continues?

Tina could also remain important even though Jonathan’s case is over. The finale states that internal affairs recommends her immediate removal as the state’s police chief, while Flavio is also placed under investigation. The law firm itself faces scrutiny over its earlier relationship with Tina and the way she had been used as a contact for clients.

That leaves room for a second season to explore the consequences of exposing a flawed conviction beyond simply freeing Jonathan. Tina’s professional future is uncertain, while Murilo, Pedro and Ana still have to answer questions about the firm’s past conduct. Those unresolved institutional problems could continue alongside Eliane’s case.

The review group itself is also becoming more permanent. Inez joins the firm as a partner, and the students continue working through its new criminal review department. That gives the show a structure capable of supporting another major case without repeating Season 1 exactly.

When Could Habeas Corpus Season 2 Be Released?

There is currently no official release date because Netflix has not renewed the series. Any specific 2027 or 2028 date would therefore be speculation. Production would first need a renewal announcement before filming and post-production could begin.

If Netflix does continue the show, a new season would likely need substantial time because Habeas Corpus combines courtroom material, location filming and a large ensemble cast. The safest approach is to wait for Netflix Brazil or Tudum to confirm the show’s future rather than assuming a yearly release schedule. For now, viewers should treat Season 2 as possible but unconfirmed.

Does the Season 1 Ending Set Up Another Season?

Very clearly. Jonathan’s release gives the first season a satisfying resolution, but Larissa’s identity reveal immediately opens another legal and personal conflict. Eliane’s file is effectively placed in front of Inez as the next case before the season ends.

That does not guarantee Netflix will order more episodes, but it shows that the writers have left themselves a natural continuation. Season 1 begins with Inez reviewing someone else’s questionable conviction and ends by forcing her to reopen one that she personally helped build.
