Who Is Suzie Skinner? John-Paul Miller’s New Wife and Her Connection to Mica Miller

Suzie Skinner becomes an important name in the final part of Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife, even though the documentary is primarily centered on Mica Miller and her troubled marriage to pastor John-Paul “JP” Miller.

Suzie was a member of the Solid Rock Church community in Myrtle Beach and was previously married to Christopher “Chris” Skinner, a motivational speaker who died in a swimming pool in 2021. Years later, after Mica’s death and amid growing scrutiny of JP’s personal life, Suzie and JP publicly became a couple. They married in June 2025.

What makes Suzie particularly relevant to Mica’s story, however, is the allegation explored in the Netflix documentary that JP and Suzie had been involved with each other while Mica was still married to him.

Who Is Suzie Skinner?

Suzie Skinner, also known as Suzanne Skinner, lived in the Myrtle Beach area and was connected to Solid Rock Ministries, the church led by John-Paul Miller. She was married for years to Chris Skinner.

Chris had been left quadriplegic after a serious automobile accident when he was 20. Accounts of his life say Suzie, who worked as a physical therapist, met him during his rehabilitation. They eventually married and raised twins together.

Chris later became known as an author, counselor and motivational speaker. His work focused heavily on how the crash had changed his life and on encouraging others to learn from his experience.

The Skinner family eventually became connected with Solid Rock Church, which brought Suzie and Chris into the same religious community as JP and Mica Miller.

What Was Suzie Skinner’s Connection to Mica Miller?

This is the part of Suzie’s story that becomes particularly important in Death of the Pastor’s Wife.

According to Mica’s relatives and the account presented in the Netflix documentary, Mica believed JP was having an affair with Suzie. Netflix describes the alleged relationship as one of the final blows to Mica’s already collapsing marriage.

The documentary says Mica confronted JP over Suzie and obtained a written promise from him that the alleged relationship would end. According to the people interviewed in the series, however, Mica came to believe it had continued.

The allegation must be treated carefully. It comes from Mica’s relatives, friends and other accounts surrounding the marriage.

JP has previously disputed or denied various claims made about his behavior and has not been convicted of wrongdoing connected to an affair.

Still, Netflix clearly treats Suzie’s presence in the story as significant because of what Mica reportedly believed was happening during the final period of her marriage.

Who Was Suzie Skinner’s First Husband, Chris Skinner?

Chris Skinner had already endured a life-changing tragedy decades before his death.

At 20, he was involved in a vehicle crash that severely damaged his spinal cord and left him quadriplegic. Rather than retreat from public life, Chris eventually turned his experience into a career speaking about personal responsibility, perseverance and the consequences of drinking and driving. He wrote The Ultimate Learning Experience and spoke to students and other audiences about his story.

Chris and Suzie lived in Myrtle Beach with their children and were involved with the same church community led by JP Miller.

On September 6, 2021, Chris was found unresponsive in a neighborhood swimming pool in Myrtle Beach. He was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center, where he died. His death was originally classified as an accidental drowning.

Why Has Chris Skinner’s Death Received New Attention?

For years, Chris Skinner’s death received comparatively little national attention. That changed after Mica Miller died in April 2024.

A sworn affidavit filed by JP’s former wife, Alison Williams, raised allegations about an inappropriate relationship between JP and Suzie that may have existed before Chris died. The affidavit also alleged that Chris had confronted JP shortly before his death and asked him to stay away from his wife and children.

Those claims contributed to renewed public scrutiny. They do not establish that either JP or Suzie caused Chris’ death.

Myrtle Beach police later reopened Chris Skinner’s case to conduct additional interviews after new information was presented. Police subsequently closed their investigation again after saying they found no additional information indicating that a crime had occurred.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office has separately continued reviewing questions surrounding the manner of Chris’ death. His death certificate has continued to list his death as accidental.

Did JP Miller and Suzie Skinner Get Married?

Yes. JP Miller and Suzie Skinner married in a beach ceremony in the Myrtle Beach area on June 1, 2025. The marriage came a little more than a year after Mica’s death and almost four years after Chris Skinner died.

By that point, JP had publicly acknowledged that he and Suzie were together. Netflix’s August 2026 update confirms that the two remain married.

The former Solid Rock Church property has since been sold, but people interviewed for the Netflix documentary say JP continues preaching to a much smaller group at temporary locations around Myrtle Beach. Suzie reportedly remains involved in those services and leads worship.

Where Is Suzie Skinner Now?

As of the release of Death of the Pastor’s Wife, Suzie remains married to John-Paul Miller and appears to continue participating in his ministry. She has not been charged in connection with Mica Miller’s death. She has also not been charged with causing Chris Skinner’s death.

That distinction is particularly important because the unusual connections between the two couples have generated extensive speculation online. The confirmed story is already complicated enough.

Suzie was married to Chris Skinner, whose 2021 drowning was initially classified as accidental. She and Chris belonged to JP Miller’s church. Mica’s family says Mica believed JP and Suzie were having an affair. After both Chris and Mica had died, JP and Suzie eventually became a public couple and married.
