Where Is John-Paul Miller Now? Is Mica Miller’s Husband in Jail?

Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife ends Mica Miller’s story without a conventional true-crime resolution. Her death was ruled a suicide, but the investigation into the conduct of her estranged husband, John-Paul “JP” Miller, continued long after the case in North Carolina was closed.

That leaves viewers with an obvious question: Where is John-Paul Miller now, and is he in jail?

As of August 2026, John-Paul Miller is not in jail. He is free on bond while facing two federal charges, including cyberstalking his late wife and making false statements to federal investigators. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges. Importantly, Miller has not been charged with killing Mica or otherwise causing her death.

John-Paul Miller Is Free on Bond

Federal authorities arrested and charged Miller after a grand jury returned a two-count indictment in December 2025. He appeared in federal court in Florence, South Carolina, in January 2026 and entered a not-guilty plea.

The court released him on a $100,000 unsecured bond with several restrictions. Those conditions have included location monitoring with an ankle monitor, restrictions on leaving South Carolina, surrender of his passport, and orders preventing contact with members of Mica’s family and potential witnesses.

So although Miller is facing a federal prosecution, he is not currently serving a prison sentence. His guilt or innocence on the charges has not yet been determined.

What Is John-Paul Miller Charged With?

The most serious charge is cyberstalking.

According to the federal indictment, prosecutors allege that from November 2022 until Mica’s death in April 2024, Miller engaged in a prolonged pattern of unwanted and harassing behavior toward her.

The allegations include having tracking devices placed on vehicles Mica used, repeatedly contacting her, interfering with her finances and daily life, damaging her vehicle’s tires, and posting an intimate photograph of her online without her consent. Prosecutors allege that on one occasion, Miller contacted Mica more than 50 times in a single day.

These allegations closely overlap with incidents discussed in Death of the Pastor’s Wife, where Mica’s family and friends describe what they believe was an escalating pattern of coercive control.

Miller also faces a charge of making false statements to federal investigators. Prosecutors allege that he denied damaging Mica’s tires, despite evidence they say connects him to the purchase of a tire-deflation device and communications concerning her vehicle.

Miller has pleaded not guilty, and the allegations have not yet been proven at trial.

Was John-Paul Miller Charged With Mica Miller’s Death?

No. This distinction is especially important after watching the Netflix documentary. Mica’s death remains officially classified as a suicide by North Carolina authorities, and John-Paul Miller has not been charged with murder, manslaughter, or any other offense alleging that he physically caused her death. The documentary does not overturn that conclusion.

Instead, its central question is broader. Through Mica’s journals, messages, police reports, medical records, family interviews and John-Paul’s own recorded words, the series examines what Mica was experiencing during the years and months before her death.

The filmmakers frame the story around alleged coercive control and the question of how someone can repeatedly seek help while still remaining trapped in a damaging relationship.

That is different from alleging homicide, and the documentary is careful about that distinction.

When Will John-Paul Miller Go to Trial?

There is not yet a final public trial date. Miller’s federal case has been delayed several times while the defense reviews discovery and prepares its case. Proceedings that had previously been expected earlier in 2026 were pushed back again in August.

The case is now continued to the October 2026 federal court term.

If convicted, Miller faces a maximum sentence of five years for cyberstalking and up to two years for making false statements. Federal prosecutors have also said the charges can carry substantial financial penalties.

Those are maximum possible penalties, not sentences that have already been imposed.

Did John-Paul Miller Remarry?

Yes. Another major update revealed in connection with Death of the Pastor’s Wife is that Miller has remarried.

He married Suzie Skinner in June 2025. Skinner had been associated with Solid Rock Church, and the documentary discusses allegations from Mica’s loved ones concerning John-Paul and Suzie’s relationship before Mica’s death.

The series presents that alleged relationship as one of the developments that contributed to the collapse of Mica’s marriage. As with other disputed aspects of the story, it is important to distinguish the accounts given by Mica’s relatives and friends from facts established in court.

What Happened to Solid Rock Church?

The physical Solid Rock Church property in Myrtle Beach has been sold.

That does not mean John-Paul Miller has completely stopped preaching. According to accounts included in Netflix’s post-documentary update, he has continued preaching to a much smaller group that reportedly gathers at temporary locations around Myrtle Beach. Suzie Skinner is said to participate in the services and lead worship.

The contrast is striking. Miller was once the highly visible pastor of a large church that played a central role in Mica’s life. By the time the Netflix series arrived, the building had been sold and Miller was facing a federal prosecution connected to alleged conduct toward his late wife.

Where the Case Stands After Death of the Pastor’s Wife

For viewers finishing the Netflix series, there is no final courtroom ending yet.

Mica Miller’s death remains officially ruled a suicide. John-Paul Miller remains free on bond. He has pleaded not guilty to cyberstalking and making false statements, and he has not been charged with Mica’s death. His federal prosecution is expected to continue during the October 2026 court term.

That unresolved legal situation is why Death of the Pastor’s Wife does not really end with Mica’s death. Its final chapter is still unfolding in court.
