Netflix’s Crew Girl builds one of its biggest personal conflicts around the two very different boys who enter Teagan Tao’s life at Easton Prep. Josh Regis is wealthy, confident and accustomed to being the center of the rowing program, while Cam Dillinger is the overlooked underdog who has had to fight for virtually every opportunity he gets.
Teagan develops genuine feelings for both of them over the course of the season, and the series gives Josh enough romantic momentum that the answer is not as obvious as it initially appears. By the end of Season 1, however, Crew Girl does make a choice.

Teagan ends the season with Cam. The finale closes the romantic chapter between Teagan and Josh for the moment before Teagan and Cam reconcile and kiss in the boathouse.
Teagan Initially Has the Easier Connection With Cam
Cam is one of the first people at Easton who understands what it feels like to be an outsider. Unlike many of the wealthy students surrounding him, he comes from a working-class family and attends the school without the social security enjoyed by people such as Josh.
That gives him an immediate point of connection with Teagan, whose privileged life has suddenly disappeared because of her father’s financial scandal.
Their relationship grows naturally through rowing. Cam helps Teagan understand the personalities and weaknesses within the boys’ crew, while Teagan recognizes that Cam is a much stronger rower and potential leader than his teammates give him credit for.
By Episode 4, Teagan admits that she may have feelings for Cam, and he finally succeeds in asking her out. Their relationship moves forward in Episode 5 when they spend time together on their taco date and attend the fall formal together.
Cam also represents something Teagan values deeply. Both of them take rowing seriously as something more than a school activity or a way to maintain social status. Actor Kyle Clark described Cam as someone who values family and shares Teagan’s intense love of rowing, which helps explain why the connection between them works beyond simple attraction.
Why Josh Still Has a Chance With Teagan
Josh begins the series almost as Teagan’s rival. He dislikes having an outsider arrive and immediately question his leadership, while Teagan has little patience for his ego and the influence of the Regis family. Their arguments, however, gradually become part of their attraction.
Josh begins showing Teagan parts of himself that do not fit his confident public image. His relationship with Britney is already becoming increasingly strained, and Teagan realizes that his seemingly perfect life is shaped by enormous pressure from his family.
At the fall formal, Josh finally ends his relationship with Britney. He insists that Teagan is not the reason for the breakup, explaining instead that he and Britney have been pretending to be happy despite wanting different things.
Later that night, Josh finds Teagan in the boathouse and kisses her. Teagan initially pulls away, but then kisses him back. The scene confirms that whatever she feels for Cam, her attraction to Josh is real too.
That moment is why the love triangle cannot simply be described as Cam being Teagan’s obvious choice from beginning to end.
Josh and Teagan Grow Closer, but His Secrets Cause Problems
The situation becomes more complicated because Josh is hiding a serious health issue. He has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that threatens both his rowing career and the future his family has mapped out for him.
Teagan eventually becomes one of the people protecting his secret. In the finale, Cam questions how Josh and Teagan ended up involved in a car accident, but Teagan refuses to reveal that Josh suffered severe chest pain before the crash.
Josh is also forced to confront his worst decisions. He admits that he deliberately sabotaged an earlier race after learning that his athletic future was effectively over. Before the Haverford Cup, however, he finally puts the team ahead of his own status and gives the stroke position to Cam because he knows Cam gives Easton its best chance of succeeding.
Easton finishes second, earning its first podium result in a decade. Josh then publicly reveals his heart condition to his family and accepts that the Haverford Cup will be his final race.
His growth is important because Crew Girl does not resolve the triangle by turning Josh into the villain. Instead, he becomes a better teammate and a more honest person even though he does not get the romantic ending he wants.
Teagan Chooses Cam in the Crew Girl Finale
After the Haverford Cup, Josh finds Teagan at the boathouse and thanks her for supporting him when things were at their worst.
He also asks her for another opportunity, essentially hoping they can explore what exists between them now that he is trying to become a better version of himself.
Teagan listens to him, but she does not begin a relationship with Josh. Their conversation leaves them on good terms and points toward friendship rather than romance. Josh then leaves the boathouse. Cam arrives afterward.
The tension that has complicated Teagan and Cam’s relationship finally falls away, and they are able to reconnect without Josh standing between them. Their conversation ends with Teagan and Cam kissing, confirming Cam as Teagan’s romantic choice at the end of Season 1.
The kiss does not necessarily mean the Josh question can never return. This is a teen drama built around rivalry and changing relationships, and Josh remains an important part of Teagan’s life and the Easton crew. Britney is also positioned to remain close to the group after the Garner Foundation funds a new women’s rowing team at Easton.
For now, though, there is no ambiguity about the final romantic beat of Season 1. Josh gets the chance to repair his friendship with Teagan, while Cam is the boy Teagan actually chooses and kisses in the finale.
That makes Crew Girl Season 1 a victory for Team Cam, even if the series has left itself plenty of room to complicate Teagan’s love life again should Netflix bring the crew back for another season.
