American Horror Story has turned houses, hotels and institutions into characters of their own before, and Season 13 wastes little time adding another ominous address to that list. Ben DeSoto arrives at the Apollyon expecting nothing more unusual than a difficult hospice assignment, but the first three episodes gradually reveal that the Manhattan building is…
Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 5 introduces another confusing Jason Dessen midway through Love and Be Loved: a disheveled, bearded Jason who suddenly becomes part of the unusual household Jason24 has created with his alternate mother. The bearded man is another variant of the original Jason Dessen, not Jason2 and not the Jason viewers normally…
American Horror Story: 13 brings back enough familiar villains, witches and supernatural figures to fill an entire season on their own, yet its biggest mystery belongs to someone viewers have never met before. Hidden inside the 13th floor of Manhattan’s Apollyon building is Mr. Nas, an elderly hospice patient whose frail appearance becomes increasingly difficult…
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 2, “The Veil of Time,” turns the mystery of Craigh na Dun into something much more personal for Henry and Julia. While Henry receives new hope in 1924, Julia is given an answer that appears to close the same door from the other side. Meanwhile, Ellen finds…
HBO’s A Killer Story reaches its most consequential chapter in Episode 3, titled “A Dangerous Notion.” After spending much of the series examining the case against Dana Chandler and the people who became convinced that something had gone seriously wrong with her prosecution, the finale returns to court for two very different outcomes. What begins…
MobLand Season 2 Episode 2, titled “Song 2,” quietly identifies the Harrigans’ biggest weakness before exploiting it in the final minutes. Conrad learns that something is physically changing the part of his brain responsible for judgment and impulse control, Maeve appears to prepare a trap for Seraphina, and Harry realizes that his own daughter is…
American Horror Story: 13 wastes little time making Ben DeSoto question whether accepting a job at the Apollyon was a mistake. Episode 2, titled “1:13 AM,” keeps Ben inside Mr. Nas’ strange penthouse while steadily adding details that no ordinary hospice explanation can comfortably account for. His patient’s physical condition becomes harder to dismiss, Constance…
Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 5, titled Love and Be Loved, takes an unexpected detour from Jason1, Daniela, Amanda and Ryan to tell the story of another Jason who lost his chance to live with Daniela and Charlie. Instead of turning that loss into another fight over who deserves the Dessen family, this Jason makes…
By its third episode, American Horror Story: 13 has moved well beyond introducing Ben DeSoto and his unusual hospice assignment. “Rauhnacht” turns the Apollyon into the site of a bizarre holiday reunion as Constance Langdon gathers familiar faces and welcomes a woman who should belong to another era entirely: Elizabeth Short. FX’s synopsis describes the…
American Horror Story returns for its 13th installment by turning the number at the center of the season into something both lucky and frightening, depending entirely on who is looking at it. Episode 1, appropriately titled “13,” introduces Ben DeSoto, a hospice caregiver whose intense fear of the number collides with his girlfriend Kira’s belief…
American Horror Story has never treated location as simple background decoration. From the Los Angeles mansion associated with Murder House to the New Orleans atmosphere surrounding Coven and the New York setting of AHS: NYC, each installment uses architecture and geography to establish its own personality. Season 13 continues that tradition, but the production has…
American Horror Story has always enjoyed introducing new characters beside familiar faces, and Season 13 is taking that idea considerably further. The new installment brings back characters from Murder House, Coven, Hotel, Cult and other chapters while building its central story around newcomer Ben DeSoto. Standing close to Ben at the beginning of that story…
