New York City served as the principal publicly documented filming hub for the 13th installment. By May 2026, the city’s film office included the series on its list of productions actively working across New York, alongside other major television and film projects.

The choice provides Season 13 with considerable visual flexibility. Manhattan can supply luxury residential buildings, older institutional architecture, parks and dense street environments without requiring the season to maintain one visual identity throughout all 13 episodes.

That is particularly useful for this installment because the story is pulling characters from several earlier chapters into one new narrative. The production can create fresh present-day settings while also recreating or referencing environments familiar from previous AHS stories.

SoHo Hosted the Coven Cast

One of the most visible Season 13 location shoots happened in SoHo, Manhattan, on July 9, 2026. Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Avantika Vandanapu and Alex Consani were photographed together while filming in the neighborhood.

Unlike an interior set that could be constructed anywhere, the SoHo material clearly uses real New York streets. The area’s cast-iron buildings, stone facades and distinctive streetscape give the sequences an immediately recognizable Manhattan texture.

Public photographs confirm the neighborhood, although the exact fictional location represented by those streets may only become clear once the relevant episodes air. A real New York location does not necessarily mean the story identifies it by the same name.

Washington Square Park, Manhattan

Season 13 also filmed at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. On July 20, Sarah Paulson and Paul Anthony Kelly were photographed filming scenes together in the park, including material around its benches and pedestrian areas.

Getty’s production photographs identified the project on set as American Horror Story: Penthouse, a name also used in contemporary reporting about the shoot. FX ultimately markets the installment simply as American Horror Story: 13, which suggests “Penthouse” functioned as a production or working title rather than the official season subtitle.

Washington Square Park offers a very different setting from SoHo despite the two locations being relatively close. Its open public spaces and instantly recognizable arch make it useful for exterior scenes that need to establish New York without depending on a conventional skyline shot.

John Jay College Became an Airport Set

Another interesting Manhattan location was reportedly the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, located at 524 West 59th Street. Location reporting indicates that the production used areas of the campus in May 2026 and redressed portions of the property to represent an airport environment.

That report fits what viewers have already seen in Season 13 promotional footage. Madelaine Petsch’s new character, Kira, is prominently introduced in an airport setting, complete with luggage and visual references to the number 13.

The production’s decision to transform an existing Manhattan property rather than rely entirely on an operating airport would make practical sense for a controlled television shoot. It allows cameras, extras and production design to occupy the space for extended periods while creating the appearance of a larger transportation terminal.

Until the episode airs, however, it is safer to describe John Jay College as a reported production location for airport sequences rather than identify every airport shot in the trailer as having been filmed there.

Williamsburg and Brooklyn Production Reports

There were also local reports of American Horror Story production activity in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, particularly around the Montrose Avenue area in June. Residents reported filming around neighborhood businesses under production names including “Outer Boroughs” and “P3nthouse.”

These reports help show that the Season 13 shoot extended beyond Manhattan, but they carry a different level of verification than New York City’s official production listing or dated Getty set photography. For that reason, individual Williamsburg businesses should not yet be presented as definite on-screen locations.

Once the season airs, recognizable storefronts and streets may make it possible to match those production reports with particular scenes. Before release, the broader conclusion that the production worked in Brooklyn is more defensible than assigning specific story moments to individual businesses.

Jersey City, New Jersey

Production records also list Jersey City, New Jersey, alongside New York City as a Season 13 filming location. Production List identified both cities as locations attached to the project during its 2026 production period.

Jersey City has long been useful to productions shooting in the New York metropolitan area because it offers urban streets, residential neighborhoods and commercial architecture within a short distance of Manhattan. It can either play itself or substitute for other parts of the region depending on the needs of a scene.

Specific Season 13 Jersey City locations have not been publicized as extensively as the Manhattan shoots. As a result, it is better to identify Jersey City as part of the confirmed production footprint without claiming that a particular building represents a specific fictional setting until the episodes provide more visual evidence.

Was American Horror Story Season 13 Filmed in Los Angeles?

The return of Murder House characters may naturally make viewers wonder whether production returned to Los Angeles locations associated with the first season. Likewise, the Coven reunion could suggest another major New Orleans shoot.

The publicly documented Season 13 production evidence instead centers heavily on New York and New Jersey. New York City’s film office confirms the production was active there, and multiple sets of photographs show major cast members shooting on Manhattan streets and in Washington Square Park.

That does not prevent the series from revisiting familiar fictional places. Interior sets can be rebuilt, locations can be recreated through production design, and exterior material from earlier installments can be referenced without moving the entire cast and crew back to the original filming site.

This is especially relevant to Season 13 because it is designed as a crossover. Returning characters do not automatically mean every location connected to their original seasons was physically revisited.
