Leanne Season 2 deliberately avoids giving its heroine a traditional romantic happy ending. Leanne turns down Andrew’s proposal, decides against getting back together with Bill and doesn’t turn her friendship with Dutch into another relationship. Instead, she ends the season with something she hasn’t really had before: the freedom to decide what she wants next.
Netflix has not officially renewed Leanne for Season 3 yet, so nothing about the next chapter is confirmed. However, Leanne Morgan has already revealed where she would like the story to go, and her comments provide some unusually strong clues.
If Season 3 happens, the biggest change may be that Leanne finally starts building a life that isn’t defined by her husband, boyfriend, children or parents.
Andrew’s Story Probably Isn’t Finished
The most obvious unfinished storyline belongs to Andrew. Season 2 begins with Leanne and Andrew still together, but their relationship becomes complicated once marriage enters the conversation. Leanne initially accepts his proposal before realizing that she isn’t ready to get married again. She wants to continue seeing Andrew without immediately becoming somebody’s wife.
Andrew doesn’t simply agree. He tells her he needs to think about what she wants, and the relationship is left unresolved when he disappears from the remaining episodes. That could easily look like Andrew’s exit from the series, but Leanne Morgan has made it clear that she doesn’t see their story as finished. She has said she told the writers that the relationship is “not over yet” and has continued referring affectionately to Andrew as her character’s boyfriend. That makes an Andrew return one of the safest Season 3 theories. The more interesting question is whether Leanne would actually marry him.

Leanne and Andrew May Date Again Without Getting Married
A reconciliation does not necessarily mean Season 3 should reverse Leanne’s decision about marriage. In fact, doing so immediately would weaken one of Season 2’s biggest developments.
Leanne spends decades as Bill’s wife. After the divorce, she has to discover who she is when marriage is no longer the structure around her entire adult life. Jumping straight into another marriage would put her back into the role she has only recently learned to live without.
Andrew may therefore return under different terms. Season 3 could explore whether two people in their 60s need marriage at all to have a serious relationship. Andrew wanted a commitment, while Leanne wanted to keep the relationship without the pressure of another wedding. Finding a compromise would give the show a more interesting story than simply asking whether Leanne gets another husband.
Bill Probably Won’t Become Leanne’s Husband Again
Season 2 deliberately toys with the possibility of Leanne and Bill reconnecting. After more than three decades together, their chemistry and history haven’t simply disappeared because their marriage ended. Leanne briefly feels attracted to Bill again, and his continued presence around the family keeps their connection alive. But Season 2 stops short of reconciliation. That is probably significant.
Bill can remain important without becoming Leanne’s husband again. He is the father of her children, part of the extended family and someone who shared most of her adult life. Leanne Morgan has also indicated that Bill isn’t simply going to vanish from her character’s world.
Season 3 could get considerably more comedy out of Leanne becoming genuinely comfortable with Bill as an ex-husband than by undoing the divorce that created the series in the first place.
Leanne Morgan Wants Season 3 to Give Her Character a Purpose
The strongest clue about Season 3 doesn’t involve Andrew or Bill. Morgan has said that if the show continues, she wants Leanne to experience “victory.” More specifically, she wants her character to discover a purpose outside her family.
That could mean getting a job, starting a business, returning to school, launching a nonprofit or finally pursuing a dream she abandoned earlier in life. It would be a natural progression for the series. Season 1 is about surviving Bill’s departure.
Season 2 is about Leanne realizing that starting over doesn’t simply mean finding another man. Season 3 could finally ask what she wants to do with the rest of her life. For a show built around the idea that reinvention doesn’t have an age limit, that may be the most logical next step.
Carol Should Still Be at the Center of Season 3
Whatever career or personal direction Leanne chooses, Carol is unlikely to be far away. The relationship between Leanne and Carol has become one of the show’s strongest foundations. Romance changes, children grow up and parents age, but the sisters remain deeply involved in each other’s lives. That also gives Season 3 room to develop Carol independently.
Rather than using her only as Leanne’s adviser and partner in chaos, another season could push Carol toward changes of her own, particularly in her romantic life and her relationship with the rest of the family. If Leanne begins searching for a new purpose, Carol will almost certainly have opinions about it – whether Leanne wants them or not.
Margaret and John’s Aging Could Become More Serious
Season 2 brings Leanne and Carol face-to-face with an uncomfortable reversal: their parents increasingly need them to become the responsible adults. Margaret and John moving into a new stage of life provides plenty of sitcom material, but there is a more emotional story underneath it.
Leanne is becoming more independent at exactly the moment her parents are becoming more dependent on her. Season 3 could continue exploring how Leanne balances her desire for a fresh start with the reality of caring for aging parents. That conflict fits Morgan’s proposed idea of giving Leanne a dream or career outside the family because pursuing it would become more complicated when people at home still need her.
Dutch Could Return Without Becoming Leanne’s Boyfriend
Billy Gardell’s Dutch initially appears to be another possible love interest, but Season 2 ultimately uses him differently. Dutch helps Leanne become more outspoken. Their relationship settles into friendship rather than romance, and that may actually make him more useful going forward. Leanne doesn’t need every man she meets to become a potential husband.
Dutch could return as the kind of friend who tells her what she needs to hear while Andrew remains the more serious romantic possibility. That would also preserve what makes his Season 2 appearance distinctive instead of turning him into another corner of a love triangle.
What Would Leanne Season 3 Really Be About?
The most convincing Season 3 theory is ultimately not Andrew versus Bill or Andrew versus Dutch. It is Leanne versus the version of herself that spent decades putting everyone else first.
Season 2 ends with Leanne single because she finally has the ability to make choices without immediately defining herself through another relationship. Morgan’s own comments suggest the writers could take that even further by giving Leanne an ambition that belongs entirely to her.
Andrew can return. Bill can remain part of the family. Dutch can stay her friend, while Carol and their parents continue creating chaos around her. But Season 3’s real story could be Leanne deciding what she wants to be when being a wife and mother is no longer the only answer.
Netflix hasn’t officially ordered that season yet, but if Leanne returns, that would be the clearest way to continue the story without simply repeating the romantic cycle of the first two seasons.
