Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 9 confirms that Keeley is expecting a baby only a few weeks after she and Roy Kent finally repair their relationship. The episode treats the news as another major step forward for the couple, but one seemingly small detail has created an unexpected question among viewers.
Keeley says her last period was roughly eight weeks earlier, while Mae Rides the Bus takes place about six weeks after the events that brought Roy and Keeley back together. At first glance, those numbers can make the timeline look suspicious. Once the way pregnancy is medically dated is taken into account, however, the apparent contradiction becomes much easier to understand.
Why Are Fans Questioning Whether Roy Is the Father?
The confusion comes almost entirely from the timeline rather than anything Keeley actually says about the baby’s father. Episode 9 places the story around six weeks after the previous episode, while Keeley’s conversation about her last menstrual period points to roughly eight weeks.
If those eight weeks were counted backward as eight weeks since conception, Keeley would seemingly have become pregnant before she and Roy reconciled. That naturally led some viewers to wonder whether the series was quietly setting up another twist.
Fresh Episode 9 discussion shows viewers noticing exactly that discrepancy and questioning whether Roy is definitely the father. The speculation is therefore understandable, but it starts from an assumption about pregnancy dating that is not quite accurate.
Eight Weeks Pregnant Does Not Mean Conception Happened Eight Weeks Ago
Pregnancy is generally not dated from the day conception happens. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists explains that gestational age is conventionally counted from the first day of the last menstrual period.
That means approximately two weeks can be included at the beginning of the pregnancy before conception has actually occurred. A pregnancy described as eight weeks along can therefore correspond roughly to conception six weeks earlier, although individual cycles can vary and ultrasound dating may later refine the estimate.
This distinction matters enormously when looking at the Ted Lasso timeline. The show does not need Keeley to have conceived eight weeks before Episode 9 simply because her last period was eight weeks earlier.

Does the Timeline Actually Fit Roy?
Once those first approximately two weeks are accounted for, the dates line up much more comfortably with Roy.
Episode 9 takes place around six weeks after Episode 8, when Roy and Keeley finally reunite. Current Episode 9 coverage also identifies the story as taking place roughly six weeks after Gemma’s injury and the previous episode’s events.
If Keeley’s last menstrual period was around eight weeks before Episode 9, likely conception could fall approximately six weeks earlier. That places it around the same period in which Roy and Keeley got back together.

The apparent two-week gap is therefore not evidence that someone else must be the father. It is almost exactly the gap created by the standard way pregnancy weeks are counted.
Does Episode 9 Suggest Another Possible Father?
Episode 9 does not currently provide any meaningful evidence that another man is the father. Keeley never expresses uncertainty about paternity, and no recent relationship is introduced as a possible alternative.
The story also does not present the pregnancy as a mystery for Roy to solve. Keeley’s hesitation about sharing the news is framed around the enormity of becoming a parent and how quickly her newly repaired relationship is changing, rather than fear that Roy will question whether the baby is his.
That distinction is important. If the writers wanted paternity to become a major finale twist, Episode 9 would normally need to plant something more substantial than a timeline that already makes sense once normal pregnancy dating is understood.
Could Jamie Tartt Be the Father?
Jamie Tartt is the obvious name fans might bring into the speculation because his history with Keeley and Roy has been central to the series since its earliest seasons. However, Episode 9 does not reconnect Jamie and Keeley romantically or provide any new scene suggesting that their old relationship has resumed.
Using Jamie as a surprise father would also require the finale to introduce information that Episode 9 has not prepared viewers for. The current storyline is instead built around Roy and Keeley finally choosing one another again and almost immediately being confronted with a much bigger shared future.
That does not make a last-minute twist impossible in television storytelling, but there is currently no episode evidence supporting Jamie as the father. The speculation comes from the characters’ history rather than anything Mae Rides the Bus actually establishes.
Why Doesn’t Keeley Seem Worried About Paternity?
Keeley is certainly anxious after discovering the pregnancy, but her concern is focused elsewhere. She wonders whether she will be a good mother and initially finds it easier to share the news with Rebecca than with Roy.
Those reactions make much more sense as fears about parenthood than as clues about another possible father. Keeley and Roy have only recently reunited, so the pregnancy forces her to think about family and long-term commitment almost immediately after they have begun rebuilding their relationship.
Her uncertainty is therefore about whether she is ready for what comes next. The episode never gives the impression that she is trying to work out who the father might be.
Does Roy’s Reaction Confirm He Is the Father?
Roy’s happiness when Keeley finally tells him does not function as a medical confirmation of paternity, but it does make the show’s narrative intention fairly obvious. Neither Roy nor Keeley stops to question the dates, and the scene is played as two people receiving major news about the future they now share.
That reaction also fits the timeline once the pregnancy dating issue is understood. Roy has no reason to be confused because there is no obvious contradiction from the characters’ perspective.
The more interesting story for the finale is therefore unlikely to be a paternity mystery. It is how two people who only recently found their way back to each other respond to suddenly facing parenthood together.
Could the Season 4 Finale Still Introduce a Twist?
Ted Lasso can always surprise its audience, so it would be premature to claim that a finale twist is literally impossible. Based on Episode 9 alone, however, the series has not laid the groundwork for a different father reveal.
The six-week time jump and eight-week pregnancy dating actually fit together remarkably well once the standard medical convention is applied. The episode also gives Keeley no alternative romantic storyline and presents Roy’s reaction without any hint of uncertainty.
Unless the finale supplies completely new information, the evidence currently points toward Roy being the father. The apparent timeline problem that sparked the fan theory is much less mysterious than it first appears.
