Netflix Makes a Major Gaming Move: Announces 40 New Games Set for Release in 2023

Netflix, the renowned streaming powerhouse that gained widespread attention with its popular series Squid Game, is once again making waves with its expanding collection of interactive games. In a recent announcement, the company revealed its ambitious plan to introduce 40 fresh games to its platform in 2023, while simultaneously collaborating with external partners to develop an additional 30 games. Furthermore, Netflix’s in-house game studio is actively working on the creation of 16 exciting new gaming experiences.

The expansion of Netflix’s gaming products is a critical component of the company’s entire entertainment strategy, which aims to provide its users with a diversified and immersive experience. Netflix plans to release new games every month through 2023, with a particular emphasis on titles inspired by its critically acclaimed original programming. For example, the game Too Hot to Handle: Love is A Game, based on the popular unscripted dating series of the same name, is already accessible on the platform. Furthermore, Netflix has exciting plans to release another game based on Too Hot to Handle later this year, substantially expanding its gaming catalog.

Netflix secured a long-term contract with Aviva Investors on September 20, 2021, to run and expand the Longcross Studios in Surrey, UK. Netflix declared on September 21, 2021, that it will acquire the Roald Dahl Story Corporation, which handles the rights to Roald Dahl’s stories and characters, for an unknown sum and operate it as an independent corporation. On September 28, 2021, the company purchased Night School Studio, an independent video game developer.

Netflix officially launched mobile games on November 2, 2021, for Android users around the world. Through the app, subscribers had free access to five games, including two previously made Stranger Things titles. Netflix intends to add more games to this service over time. On November 9, the collection launched for iOS. Some games in the collection require an active internet connection to play, while others will be available offline. Netflix Kids’ accounts will not have games available.

Netflix’s latest gaming partnership is with Ubisoft, and the two companies are set to release an exclusive game called Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace on April 18th. This agreement is a major milestone for the streaming service as it seeks to extend its gaming offerings and attract a larger audience.
