Why Did I Get Married Again? Cast

Why Did I Get Married Again? does more than reunite Tyler Perry’s familiar group of friends. The Netflix sequel also introduces their grown children, turning the third movie into something of a generational handoff. Angela and Marcus’ daughter Jasmine is preparing to marry Wesley, and their Lake Como wedding brings the original circle back together with a collection of younger characters who seem perfectly capable of creating their own relationship problems.

Tyler Perry, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Jill Scott, Sharon Leal, Richard T. Jones and Lamman Rucker return from the earlier movies. Taraji P. Henson joins the franchise as Roselyn, while Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael and several other younger actors complete the expanded ensemble.

Tyler Perry as Terry Brock and Sharon Leal as Dianne Brock

Tyler Perry returns as Terry Brock, one of the original members of the friend group. Terry is a pediatrician and remains married to Dianne, although the couple’s relationship has gone through difficult periods throughout the franchise. In the new movie, they are now parents to Kenya and T.J.

Perry once again handles several duties behind the camera as well. He wrote, directed and produced Why Did I Get Married Again? in addition to playing Terry.

Sharon Leal reprises her role as Dianne Brock, Terry’s wife and an accomplished lawyer. The couple appears considerably more settled when the group reunites, but stability in this franchise rarely guarantees a drama-free vacation. Leal is also known for Dreamgirls and Addicted.

Tasha Smith as Angela and Michael Jai White as Marcus

For longtime viewers, Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White are arguably the most instantly recognizable returning pair.

Smith is back as Angela Williams, whose explosive arguments with Marcus became one of the franchise’s signatures. Angela previously built a successful haircare business, but the new movie finds her attention focused on daughter Jasmine’s approaching wedding. Angela and Marcus also have a son, Marcus Jr.

Michael Jai White plays Marcus Williams, Angela’s husband and a former professional football player. The arrival of Wesley gives Marcus an unexpected competitive problem because his future son-in-law is developing an impressive football career of his own. White’s other prominent credits include Black Dynamite and The Dark Knight.

Jill Scott as Sheila and Lamman Rucker as Troy

Jill Scott returns as Sheila, whose journey has changed considerably since the first Why Did I Get Married? film. Sheila eventually left Mike and built a new life with Troy, played again by Lamman Rucker.

In Why Did I Get Married Again?, Sheila and Troy remain married and have a son named Denver. Sheila is also dealing with the difficult responsibility of caring for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease. Troy, meanwhile, runs a grass-cutting business with Sheila.

Scott is well known both as a Grammy-winning singer and an actress, with screen credits including The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and First Wives Club. Rucker has previously appeared in productions including N-Secure and The Greatest Song.

Richard T. Jones as Mike

Richard T. Jones returns as Mike, Sheila’s ex-husband and one of the more complicated figures in the original group.

Mike arrives at the Italian wedding with a new and much younger girlfriend named Regina. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Regina already has another connection to the family because she previously dated Marcus Jr. That relationship immediately creates another source of tension around the wedding.

Jones has a long film and television career that includes Event Horizon and Phone Booth.

Taraji P. Henson as Roselyn

The biggest addition to the returning adult ensemble is Taraji P. Henson as Roselyn.

Roselyn is new to viewers, but the movie establishes her as a longtime friend of the original group. She is a highly successful real estate businesswoman who runs a multimillion-dollar company and is the mother of groom-to-be Wesley.

Her connection with the family becomes even more complicated when she arrives with Nick, her considerably younger boyfriend. Henson previously worked with Perry on films including I Can Do Bad All by Myself and Acrimony, while her wider credits include Hidden Figures, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Empire.

Armani Greer as Jasmine and Everett Osborne as Wesley

The wedding at the center of the movie belongs to Jasmine and Wesley.

Armani Greer plays Jasmine, the daughter of Angela and Marcus. She grew up watching her parents and their friends navigate their marriages and now finds herself preparing to make the same commitment. Her closest friend is Kenya, Terry and Dianne’s daughter. Greer’s credits include 72 Hours and 90 Days Past Due.

Everett Osborne plays Wesley, Roselyn’s son and Jasmine’s fiance. Wesley is a talented football player whose rising career has begun approaching the achievements of former football star Marcus. His relationship with his mother is also strained as the wedding approaches. Osborne has appeared in Chicago Fire and Tyler Perry’s Sistas.

Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael and Charles L. Smith

Da’Vinchi plays Marcus Jr., the son of Marcus and Angela and Wesley’s best friend. His recent breakup with Regina becomes much harder to ignore when she unexpectedly arrives at the wedding with Mike. Da’Vinchi is particularly recognizable as Terry “Southwest T” Flenory in BMF.

Laya DeLeon Hayes plays Kenya, Terry and Dianne’s daughter and Jasmine’s closest friend. Hayes is known for playing Delilah in The Equalizer and also voices characters in animation.

Jaden Michael appears as T.J., Terry and Dianne’s younger son. Michael previously played the young Colin Kaepernick in Netflix’s Colin in Black & White and starred in Harlan Coben’s Shelter.

Charles L. Smith plays Denver, the son of Sheila and Troy. Denver has inherited some of his parents’ calmer nature and often finds himself surrounded by considerably more dramatic relatives and friends. Smith’s previous television credits include All American and 9-1-1.

Derrick A. King as Nick and Sydney Winbush as Regina

Two characters outside the central families create some of the wedding weekend’s biggest complications.

Derrick A. King plays Nick, Roselyn’s 27-year-old boyfriend. Nick is a student and, awkwardly, once served as Wesley’s middle-school tutor. Roselyn has kept their relationship away from her friends until bringing him to Italy. King has appeared in Run the World and The Game.

Sydney Winbush plays Regina, Mike’s new girlfriend and Marcus Jr.’s ex. Her connections to both generations make her arrival particularly uncomfortable. Winbush’s previous credits include Grey’s Anatomy and Power Book II: Ghost.

Together, the returning actors and new cast allow Why Did I Get Married Again? to revisit the marriages audiences already know while setting up a younger group with relationship problems of its own.
