Spoiler warningThis story discusses major plot details and outcomes.

The Lake Como wedding at the center of ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ nearly becomes another casualty of the same relationship mistakes that have followed this group for years. Jasmine and Wesley arrive in Italy looking like the franchise’s next stable couple, but both have been hiding serious problems from their families. Wesley cheated before proposing, Jasmine retaliated by cheating on him, and her affair resulted in an STD. Despite that history, Jasmine and Wesley do get married at the end of the movie. Their decision is not presented as proof that their problems have disappeared. Instead, Tyler Perry uses their wedding to turn the franchise’s old relationship failures into lessons for a younger generation.

Why Is Sheila Worried About Jasmine and Wesley?

Sheila becomes suspicious because she has already heard evidence that something is wrong between Jasmine and Wesley. Before the trip to Italy, Jasmine called her, and Sheila could hear Wesley screaming in the background. Given Sheila’s own history with Mike, she does not dismiss the incident as an ordinary argument. Jasmine insists that everything is fine and asks Sheila not to tell Angela, but Sheila eventually shares her concerns with Diane.

The movie deliberately lets that concern hang over the wedding preparations before revealing what has actually been happening. It does not establish that Wesley has been physically abusing Jasmine, so that conclusion would go beyond what the story confirms. What Sheila correctly recognizes is that Jasmine is protecting the image of her relationship instead of being honest with the people closest to her. That becomes one of the central problems in the movie, because Jasmine has spent years believing that the marriages around her are far more perfect than they really are.

What Were Jasmine and Wesley Hiding?

The truth finally comes out at the rehearsal dinner. Wesley cheated on Jasmine before proposing to her, and rather than immediately ending the relationship, Jasmine responded by cheating as well. Her decision had an additional consequence because she contracted an STD during the affair. The revelation creates an uncomfortable parallel with Angela and Marcus, whose marriage in the first ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ was also damaged by infidelity and an STD.

That repetition is not accidental from a storytelling standpoint. Jasmine has grown up watching Angela and Marcus after they survived the most destructive years of their marriage, so she sees the version of them that exists after years of repair rather than everything that came before it. Wesley and Jasmine consequently believe that their own messiness makes them unusually dysfunctional. The rehearsal dinner forces them to discover that almost every couple they admire has gone through some version of betrayal, resentment or failure.

Why Do the Older Couples Finally Tell Their Children the Truth?

The older generation realizes that presenting themselves as perfect has unintentionally made things harder for their children. Jasmine admits that she was afraid to tell her parents what happened because she thought their marriage represented a standard she had failed to meet. Terry and Diane’s children Kenya and T.J., along with Sheila and Troy’s son Denver, express similar feelings about growing up around couples who now appear settled and successful. That forces the adults to stop protecting the polished version of their marriages.

Their honesty becomes more useful to Jasmine than another lecture about faithfulness. Angela, Marcus, Terry, Diane, Sheila and Troy know that marriage has involved humiliation, compromise and serious mistakes, even if the younger characters mostly remember the aftermath. The point is not that cheating becomes acceptable because the parents did it too. Rather, Jasmine and Wesley are finally able to make their decision with a more realistic understanding of what marriage requires.

Do Jasmine and Wesley Actually Go Through With the Wedding?

Yes. After everything comes out, Jasmine and Wesley still decide to marry. Their wedding takes place in the candlelit Lake Como setting that has brought both families together, turning what initially looked like a celebration of a perfect relationship into something much less idealized. They know more about each other’s failures by that stage than they did when the trip began, but neither decides that those failures automatically end the relationship.

That choice will probably divide viewers more than the ceremony itself. Wesley’s betrayal and Jasmine’s retaliation are substantial problems, and one emotional family conversation cannot realistically resolve them. Perry is not really pretending otherwise. The wedding works as a commitment to keep dealing with those issues rather than evidence that they have already dealt with them.

What Happens With Roselyn and Nick?

Roselyn’s relationship also survives the weekend, although it causes its own family conflict. Nick is revealed to be her much younger boyfriend and, more awkwardly, Wesley’s former middle school tutor. Roselyn had kept Nick away from her friends because she expected them to judge the age difference, and Wesley is furious when Nick appears in Italy. The tension is worsened by Wesley’s existing resentment toward his mother over her divorce from his father, Harvey.

Roselyn eventually explains that Harvey struggled with drug addiction and that many of the decisions Wesley blamed her for were actually attempts to protect him from the truth about his father. Nick supports Roselyn during the confrontation, changing the way she handles the relationship after initially asking him to leave. By the end, Roselyn accepts that hiding Nick simply to keep everyone else comfortable is no longer sustainable. Their storyline mirrors Jasmine’s in a different way, with both women being pushed into admitting uncomfortable truths before moving forward.

What Does the Ending Really Mean?

‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ ends by shifting the franchise’s central question to the children who grew up around the original couples. Angela and Marcus, Diane and Terry, and Sheila and Troy are no longer primarily being asked whether their marriages can survive. Their mistakes have become the history that Jasmine and Wesley inherit. Even the film’s title now sounds slightly different because the younger couple is beginning where the older characters once were.

Jasmine and Wesley’s wedding therefore is not a clean romantic happy ending. They marry knowing that both have already damaged the trust between them, but they also stop pretending their relationship has to resemble the polished marriages they saw growing up. The film’s final argument is that marriage is not made meaningful by avoiding every mistake. For this family, it is defined by whether two people are prepared to confront those mistakes honestly and still choose the work that comes afterward.
