The attack on Daniella Hernandez and Dom Mayfield is the first major mystery of ‘Sacrifice‘ Season 2, and Episode 2 makes it clear that the shooting was carefully arranged. The couple survives, but the investigation reveals that someone manipulated their route, pressured the driver, and knew where they would be vulnerable after the BET Awards. Several enemies are considered, including Jameson’s associates and Unger, yet the strongest theory points back to Syngem, the organization tied to Daniella’s parents. The episode does not identify the shooter, but it gives Syngem more supporting clues than any obvious suspect.
The Driver Is the Most Important Clue in the Attack
The shooting depends on Daniella’s driver putting her and Dom in exactly the right place for the attackers. After Daniella chooses to take a scenic ride home, the driver who was supposed to bring the car around becomes unreachable and his phone goes straight to voicemail. Sly’s people later access his records and discover that he had received repeated threats before the BET Awards, suggesting he was forced to cooperate. The messages came through a burner phone, but the team traces the driver’s recent movements to a local address, giving them their first physical lead.
That discovery changes the case because it suggests planning, surveillance, and intimidation rather than random violence. Someone knew Daniella’s schedule well enough to use the driver while also taking precautions to hide whoever was issuing the threats. Episode 2 does not reveal whether the driver knew a shooting was planned or was only ordered to place Daniella in a particular location. Either way, his disappearance and the burner-phone messages point to a coordinated operation.

Jameson’s Crew and Unger Do Not Look Like the Real Culprits
Dom initially focuses on people he has recently angered, particularly Jameson’s remaining crew and Unger. Jameson’s associates have reason to resent Daniella because of the operation that brought Jameson down, while Unger clashed with Dom at the BET Awards shortly before the shooting. Dom’s people report that Jameson’s crew is not motivated to retaliate and that Unger does not appear capable of arranging an operation this quickly. Neither is formally cleared, but the episode deliberately weakens both theories before returning to Daniella’s family history.
That distinction matters because Dom may simply have been beside the actual target. Sly repeatedly treats Daniella as the person in danger, and the attack comes while she is again confronting questions about her parents and the people who wanted them dead. If the motive is stopping Daniella from uncovering old secrets, Dom’s enemies become less relevant even though he was also in the car. The shooting then looks less like retaliation and more like an attempt to silence her.
Why Syngem Is the Strongest Suspect
Sly directly names Syngem while the group discusses who could have ordered the attack. He explains that the organization is connected to the deaths of Daniella’s parents and reminds the others that Syngem previously tried to kill Arnold at Jameson’s party. When Dom asks why Syngem would target Daniella now, Sly answers that she has been asking questions. That motive fits the timing because the secrets surrounding her parents are becoming active again just as someone makes a coordinated attempt on her life.
The driver’s coercion also fits the kind of concealed operation associated with Syngem better than the impulsive revenge Dom expects from recent enemies. Whoever controls the driver uses threats and a burner phone to create distance from the crime rather than confronting Daniella directly. None of that proves Syngem sent the messages, but it shows a level of preparation that makes Sly’s theory credible. Episode 2 then gives another character a reason to believe that speaking openly about Syngem can be dangerous.
Ellis Shaw’s Decision to Talk Makes the Theory More Serious
After learning about the attack, Ellis tells Arnold that Syngem tried to kill Daniella and says he is going to the District Attorney with everything he knows. Arnold warns him that talking about the organization is a terrible idea, but Ellis refuses to remain silent and later admits to Daniella that he knew her father was going to be targeted. He claims Daniella’s mother, Lila, was not supposed to be there, confirming that he had concealed much more than he previously admitted. Daniella rejects him, but Ellis continues with his plan to expose the conspiracy.
Ellis calls Beverly and says he knows who killed Daniella’s parents and has names, financial records, and recordings that can prove his claims. They arrange to meet at 6 p.m., yet Ellis never arrives and stops answering his phone, leaving Beverly concerned enough to contact Daniella. The episode does not confirm that Syngem harmed Ellis, just as it does not confirm that Syngem ordered the shooting. Still, his disappearance immediately after deciding to expose the group strengthens the idea that both events may be connected.
Did Syngem Order the Attack on Daniella and Dom?
At the end of Episode 2, Syngem is the strongest suspect, but there is not enough evidence to say the organization definitely ordered the shooting. The episode establishes that the driver was threatened, the attack was planned, the obvious suspects do not fit especially well, and Ellis believes Syngem is trying to stop Daniella. There is still no identified shooter, no traced payment, and no direct link between the burner phone and Syngem. Another person could therefore be working with the organization, acting on its behalf, or using its reputation to hide a separate motive.
The final warning from Sly makes the mystery more threatening rather than more certain. After following the driver lead, he tells Miguel to stay extremely close to Daniella because whoever is behind the attack is “way worse” than he first thought, but the episode does not reveal what he discovered. That missing information may explain why the driver was pressured so aggressively and could become the next major clue. For now, Daniella appears to be the primary target, and Syngem remains the best-supported theory because the shooting, Ellis’ disappearance, and the renewed questions about her parents all converge on the same buried history.
