Roy Kent’s ten-date assignment takes an unexpected turn in Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 5 when he tells Keeley that he has already completed all ten dates. More importantly, Roy reveals that his last five dates have actually been with the same woman. Episode 5 does not reveal her name or show her, so it is not officially confirmed that Roy is dating Dr. Erin Beaumont. However, Erin is currently the strongest candidate because Episode 4 ends Roy’s encounter with the doctor by having him directly ask for her phone number.

Keeley certainly understands the importance of Roy’s revelation. She had encouraged him to date other people because she wanted him to determine whether he genuinely wanted her back rather than simply returning to a familiar relationship. Instead, Roy appears to have done exactly what Keeley asked and unexpectedly developed a real connection with somebody else.

Why Does Keeley Ask Roy to Date Other Women?

Keeley’s original challenge is not really about reaching a specific number of dates. Roy admits in Episode 4 that although he has slept with other women since their breakup, he has not properly dated anyone. Keeley therefore wants him to experience dating again before the two decide whether restarting their relationship is actually healthy.

Roy initially approaches the assignment in typically Roy fashion, treating ten dates like a target he can complete as efficiently as possible. He schedules several women close together and turns what was supposed to be emotional exploration into another task. By Episode 5, however, something has clearly changed because the last five dates are no longer with five different women.

Is Dr. Erin Beaumont the Woman Roy Has Been Dating?

Ted Lasso has not confirmed that Dr. Erin Beaumont is Roy’s mystery woman, but she has the strongest narrative setup. Roy meets Erin after his knee gives out while he is fooling around with Britt, the bartender he meets during his disastrous dating experiment. His sister Jenni gets him an appointment with Erin, who immediately refuses to treat the famous former footballer with any special reverence.

That bluntness appears to interest Roy rather than offend him. Erin challenges him about neglecting his knee, refuses to indulge his stubbornness, and speaks to him as though his reputation means very little inside her examination room. By the end of their encounter, Roy asks for her phone number, making Erin the clearest person Episode 4 establishes as someone he might actually pursue afterward.

There is also a storytelling reason Erin stands out. If she were only required to diagnose Roy’s knee, the episode would not need to end their interaction with Roy asking for her number. That does not prove the five dates were with Erin, but it gives her introduction a purpose that extends beyond the medical subplot.

Could Roy Be Dating Britt Instead?

Britt remains the main alternative because Roy also develops chemistry with her in Episode 4. The bartender watches his badly organized dates fall apart before teasing him about what he is doing, and their flirting eventually leads to a backroom make-out session. Roy’s knee gives out during that encounter, which ironically leads directly to him meeting Erin.

The difference is that Britt and Roy’s encounter is already physical before there is any indication of a proper date. Keeley’s entire challenge is specifically about Roy learning to date someone rather than simply sleeping with people. Erin therefore fits the Episode 5 wording slightly better because Roy deliberately asks for her number after their conversation, suggesting that he wants to see her again.

Still, Episode 5 deliberately gives viewers too little information to eliminate Britt completely. Until Roy’s mystery woman appears or somebody says her name, Erin remains the most likely answer rather than a confirmed one.

Why Roy’s Five Dates Hurt Keeley So Much

Keeley reacts differently when Roy says that his final five dates were all with one person because this is no longer the harmless exercise she imagined. Ten casual dates could have allowed Roy to return and tell her that none of the women meant anything to him. Five consecutive dates with the same woman indicate that he has chosen to keep seeing someone.

That realization follows Keeley through the rest of the episode. By the ending, while she and Rebecca comfort each other over their respective romantic problems, Keeley finally cries about Roy seeing somebody else. She wanted Roy to prove that his desire to reunite with her was not based on loneliness or nostalgia, but giving him that freedom may have helped him discover another possibility.

Does This Mean Roy and Keeley Are Finished?

No, Episode 5 does not establish that Roy and Keeley are permanently finished. Their relationship remains one of the season’s active emotional threads, and Keeley’s reaction makes clear that her feelings for Roy have not disappeared. Roy’s decision to repeatedly date another woman simply makes their potential reconciliation considerably more complicated.

It also changes the balance between them. Until now, Roy has largely been the person waiting for Keeley to decide whether she wants him back. Episode 5 forces Keeley to confront the possibility that Roy may eventually stop waiting.

For now, the identity of Roy’s mystery woman remains unconfirmed. Dr. Erin Beaumont has the strongest evidence because Roy specifically asks for her number immediately before Episode 5 reveals that one woman has occupied half of his ten dates. If that woman does turn out to be Erin, Keeley’s attempt to test Roy’s readiness for their relationship may have accidentally created her first serious romantic competition.
