The Spirit of Halloween Cast Guide: Meet Meghan Ory, Kevin McGarry and the Three Halloween Spirits

The Spirit of Halloween gives Hallmark a rare chance to combine one of its familiar romances with a supernatural seasonal premise. Meghan Ory leads the movie as Everly Stone, a talented bridal designer whose dislike of Halloween is tied to an embarrassing memory she has never really moved beyond. Kevin McGarry plays Beau Madison, the longtime friend still connected to the life Everly left behind, while three unusual visitors force her to examine how much she has sacrificed by protecting herself from the past.

The movie is essentially Hallmark’s Halloween answer to A Christmas Carol. Instead of Dickens’ Christmas spirits, Everly meets the Spirits of Halloween Past, Present and Future during one transformative night. Alongside Ory and McGarry, the cast includes Derek McGrath, Sheila McCarthy, Lachlan Quarmby, Valentina Capetola, Ryan J. Prashad and Matthew Thomas Rogers.

Meghan Ory as Everly Stone

Meghan Ory plays Everly, the woman at the center of both the romantic story and the supernatural visits. Everly has built a successful career as a bridal designer, but work has also become a convenient way to avoid dealing with a hometown Halloween memory that left her embarrassed and emotionally guarded.

Hallmark viewers will know Ory best as Abby O’Brien from Chesapeake Shores, where she starred for six seasons. She also played Ruby, better known as Red Riding Hood, on Once Upon a Time and appeared in Intelligence, Supernatural and NCIS: New Orleans. Her previous Hallmark movies include Dashing Through the Snow and The Secret Gift of Christmas.

The role gives Ory a character who begins the movie actively resisting the kind of community celebration usually embraced by a Hallmark lead. Everly’s journey is therefore less about discovering Halloween and more about understanding why she allowed one difficult memory to influence so much of her adult life.

Kevin McGarry as Beau Madison

Kevin McGarry plays Beau, Everly’s longtime friend and the person who represents much of what she has left behind. Hallmark’s synopsis suggests that the connection between them never completely disappeared, even as Everly built a different life around her career.

McGarry is one of Hallmark’s most recognizable current performers thanks to his role as Nathan Grant on When Calls the Heart. He also appeared as Mitch Cutty on Heartland and has starred in Hallmark movies including The Wedding Veil, Feeling Butterflies, My Grown-Up Christmas List, Checkin’ It Twice and Christmas Scavenger Hunt.

His presence is especially fitting because Christmas Scavenger Hunt was also filmed around Carleton Place, one of the Ontario communities used for The Spirit of Halloween.

Derek McGrath as the Spirit of Halloween Past

Derek McGrath plays the Spirit of Halloween Past, one of the three figures guiding Everly through the night. Promotional images show McGrath sharing scenes directly with Ory, making his spirit the character most closely connected with revisiting the memories that shaped Everly’s dislike of Halloween.

McGrath has decades of television experience, with credits including Little Mosque on the Prairie, Cheers, My Secret Identity and Doc. His casting gives the supernatural side of the movie a veteran character actor who can keep the story playful rather than turning its ghostly premise into something genuinely frightening.

Sheila McCarthy and Lachlan Quarmby

Sheila McCarthy plays the Spirit of Halloween Present, while Lachlan Quarmby takes the role of the Spirit of Halloween Future. Together with McGrath, they complete the trio responsible for showing Everly what she has lost and what her life could become if she continues shutting people out.

McCarthy is a veteran Canadian performer known for Little Mosque on the Prairie, Women Talking and I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing. Quarmby will be especially familiar to Hallmark viewers from Hope Valley: 1874, where he plays Mountie Alexander Vaughn. Parade noted the fun connection between Quarmby and McGarry, giving When Calls the Heart fans two Mounties from Hallmark’s expanding Hope Valley universe in the same Halloween movie.

Valentina Capetola appears as Young Everly, allowing the film to revisit the experiences that shaped the adult character. Ryan J. Prashad plays Marty, while Matthew Thomas Rogers appears as Leo, expanding the community around Everly and Beau.

The Spirit of Halloween premieres Saturday, October 10 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel and becomes available on Hallmark+ the following day. Its cast gives the network’s final Fall Into Love movie a mixture of recognizable Hallmark leads, experienced Canadian performers and a supernatural ensemble designed to make its Halloween take on A Christmas Carol feel warm rather than frightening.
