Hallmark’s The Spirit of Halloween gives the familiar structure of A Christmas Carol an autumn makeover. Meghan Ory plays Everly Stone, a successful bridal designer who wants nothing to do with Halloween after a painful experience years earlier. When her late mentor appears with a warning, three spirits take Everly through her past, present and possible future, forcing her to reconsider the holiday, the hometown she has pushed away and her lingering connection with Beau, played by Kevin McGarry. The movie premieres October 10, 2026 on Hallmark Channel and streams the following day on Hallmark+.

The cozy Halloween world on screen was created in eastern Ontario. Production took place principally in Ottawa, with additional filming in nearby Carleton Place, a community already familiar to viewers of Canadian-made Hallmark movies. The project was originally filmed under the title A Halloween Carol before Hallmark renamed it The Spirit of Halloween for its Fall Into Love lineup.
Where was The Spirit of Halloween filmed?
The Spirit of Halloween was filmed in Ontario, Canada, primarily around Ottawa and Carleton Place. Production records for A Halloween Carol show filming beginning on November 24, 2025 in Ottawa, while contemporary Ontario production reporting places the shoot between November 24 and December 12.
That timing meant the filmmakers were actually creating a Halloween story as eastern Ontario was moving toward winter. Seasonal decorations, production design and carefully selected streets therefore had to supply much of the movie’s warm October atmosphere. Ottawa’s combination of established film crews, residential neighborhoods and older architecture made it a practical base for a Hallmark story that shifts between Everly’s professional life and the community she left behind.
Ottawa, Ontario
Ottawa served as the main production hub. The city’s local film infrastructure supported the movie throughout its roughly three-week shoot, and IMDb also identifies Ottawa as a filming location for the finished Hallmark production.
The movie does not depend on recognizable Ottawa landmarks such as Parliament Hill. Instead, the production uses the region to create Everly’s fictional hometown and the more intimate places associated with her memories. That approach fits a story built around a fire-station celebration, familiar neighbors and the idea that Everly has spent years distancing herself from a community that still remembers her.
Public production information has not identified every private house, interior or commercial property used in the movie. Those spaces should therefore not be attached to specific Ottawa addresses without stronger evidence, particularly because Hallmark productions frequently combine practical homes with interiors created or redressed specifically for filming.

Carleton Place, Ontario
Carleton Place provides the movie’s clearest publicly documented practical location. The town sits west of Ottawa along the Mississippi River and has repeatedly hosted television movies because of its traditional downtown streets and heritage buildings.
Local reporting from the 2025 shoot noted that the Carleton Place fire hall was decorated for A Halloween Carol. That detail is especially significant because Hallmark’s official synopsis identifies a beloved fire-station Halloween bash as an important event from Everly’s past. The location therefore appears to be more than generic background scenery.

Carleton Place has hosted several other seasonal productions, including Christmas Scavenger Hunt, Paging Mr. Darcy and The Rooftop Christmas Tree. Its experience accommodating film crews and its preserved small-town architecture make it particularly suited to Hallmark’s preference for communities that feel established rather than artificially constructed.

A Halloween Carol became The Spirit of Halloween
Anyone searching older Ontario production records will find the movie under a different name. During filming, the project was called A Halloween Carol, a title that made its connection to Charles Dickens considerably more explicit.

The story still retains that structure in the finished version. Everly receives visits connected with Halloween Past, Present and Future, but Hallmark eventually chose The Spirit of Halloween as the broadcast title. Director Jeff Beesley oversaw the production from a screenplay by Nicole Baxter.
The title change did not alter the movie’s Canadian production roots. Ottawa provided the filmmaking base, while Carleton Place supplied the kind of small-town environment needed for Everly’s return to the Halloween celebration she had spent years avoiding. Together, the two Ontario locations give Hallmark’s final Fall Into Love movie of 2026 its distinctly autumnal setting, even though cameras were rolling as winter approached.
