Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 6 takes Richmond into the new year, but the celebrations bring several unresolved relationships back to the surface. While most of the women’s team attends Zelda Southport’s extravagant boat party, Rebecca and Keeley spend the evening at Jamie Tartt’s vodka launch, and Ted stays at the Crown & Anchor with Michelle and Henry. By midnight, almost everyone is forced to confront something they have been avoiding.

The biggest surprise comes at the hospital, where Roy’s relationship with Erin suddenly runs into the one problem he has never really solved: Keeley. Elsewhere, Michelle gives Ted the encouragement he has been missing, Alice makes an awkward attempt to reconnect with Richmond, and Rebecca finally gets an answer from Mathijs.

Zelda’s New Year’s Eve Party Quickly Gets Strange

The Richmond women’s team arrives at Zelda Southport’s boat party expecting an opportunity to meet wealthy potential investors. Instead, the evening becomes increasingly uncomfortable as the players realize just how strange Zelda’s circle of friends can be.

Alice initially struggles even to attend. She spends much of the night worrying about how the team sees her following her suspension, and Zelda unintentionally makes things worse by introducing several members of the coaching staff without remembering Alice at all. Gemma notices her discomfort and follows her outside.

Their conversation gives Alice a rare chance to apologize for how she treated Gemma when they previously played together. Gemma does not pretend everything is forgotten, but she tells Alice that the team does not hate her. They are still trying to understand who she is as a coach.

For a moment, that seems to help. Unfortunately, when Lizzie later tells Alice that the team loves her, Alice immediately realizes Gemma must have spoken to the others. Instead of accepting the gesture, she confronts Gemma, showing that Alice’s insecurity remains one of her biggest problems.

The party itself only gets stranger. Hugo Riddles disturbs the players with his stories, masks suddenly appear, and Zelda starts firing a gun into the air as midnight approaches. Richmond decides that leaving is the safest option.

Ted Finally Admits He Is Struggling

Ted spends New Year’s Eve at the Crown & Anchor with Michelle and Henry rather than joining the team. Michelle quickly notices that something is wrong.

Ted eventually admits that he feels adrift. His decision to suspend Alice is still bothering him, and he is questioning whether he is handling the women’s team correctly. Michelle does not give him a simple answer, but she reminds Ted that he has always been at his best when he is truthful with the people around him and with himself.

Their conversation then becomes more personal. Michelle explains how lonely she felt after their divorce and why she entered a relationship with their former therapist. Being with someone who already knew her history initially seemed easier than beginning again with a stranger.

Rather than trying to reopen their marriage, Michelle pushes Ted forward. When she learns that he has not seriously dated anyone in some time, Ted mentions the stage manager he met backstage but whose name he never learned. Michelle tells him to find her and ask her out.

Later, Ted joins the Richmond players outside the pub for the countdown. When he eventually returns upstairs, he discovers that Michelle has left him a new Believe poster. The gesture says more about their relationship than a romantic reunion would. Michelle still understands Ted deeply and wants him to succeed, even if their marriage remains in the past.

Roy’s New Relationship Runs Into Keeley

Rebecca and Keeley spend New Year’s Eve at Jamie Tartt’s vodka launch. Roy arrives alone, which briefly gives Keeley hope that the woman he has been seeing might not be particularly serious.

That assumption disappears after Roy injures his knee while dancing with Jamie. Jamie takes him to the hospital, where they encounter Erin, the doctor Roy has been dating.

Keeley’s reaction makes her feelings difficult to hide. She recognizes that Erin is intelligent, attractive and seemingly perfect for Roy, but that only makes the situation more uncomfortable.

After Keeley leaves, Roy speaks openly to Erin about how happy he is to have met her. Then, while still affected by the medication, he makes the mistake that changes everything. Roy tells Erin, “I love you, Keeley.”

The confession confirms what Erin had already begun to suspect. Roy may genuinely like her, but part of him is still emotionally attached to Keeley.

Do Rebecca and Mathijs Get Back Together?

Rebecca spends much of the episode believing she has ruined her relationship with Mathijs. He has stopped sharing his location, and her New Year’s message receives no immediate response.

She admits to Jamie that she had something special with Mathijs but allowed her own choices to damage it. Jamie unexpectedly gives her some thoughtful advice, and for a moment it even seems as though the two might share a midnight kiss. Then Mathijs appears.

His silence was not rejection. He traveled to surprise Rebecca in person, and the pair reunite with a kiss at midnight. At least for now, Rebecca and Mathijs are back together.

What Does Roy’s Confession Mean for the Ending?

Roy’s accidental confession is the most important development at the end of Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 6 because it brings the Roy-Keeley storyline back into the open.

Roy has spent much of the season attempting to move forward. Erin appears to be the first person in some time with whom he has formed a genuine romantic connection. Yet the moment his guard drops completely, the name that comes out is Keeley’s.

Keeley, meanwhile, leaves the hospital without hearing the confession. She already knows that seeing Roy with Erin bothers her, but she does not know that Roy may still feel exactly the same way.

That creates the episode’s biggest unresolved question going into Episode 7. Roy and Keeley are both trying to move forward, but neither appears to have fully left the other behind.
