Project Runway Season 22 Episode 7 builds toward a result that viewers never actually get to see. After House Season 22 and a returning group from Season 21 complete the unconventional materials challenge, Heidi Klum tells both teams that the judges have made their decision. The episode then ends before she reveals which house won, meaning Episode 7 does not confirm the challenge winner, the $20,000 recipient or an elimination. If Season 22 wins, all seven current designers are safe. If Season 21 wins, one Season 22 designer faces elimination. That unresolved decision is the actual ending of “Battle of the Seasons,” rather than a missing scene or incomplete result.

Season 22 had much more than pride riding on the challenge

The challenge begins as a straightforward generational face-off, but Heidi quickly makes the consequences considerably more serious. Naheim Muhammad, Jeffrey Kelly Abess, Joseph McRae, Bi Pham, Anna Molinari, Bryan Barrientos and Jude Mikulencak must compete together as House Season 22 against six returning Season 21 designers. Both houses receive unconventional materials gathered from a recycling warehouse, including discarded electronics, cables, keyboards, plastics and other technological debris. The collections do not have to be visually cohesive, but every designer still needs to produce a strong individual look. Freeform’s official synopsis likewise describes Episode 7 as a showdown between the current cast and returning Season 21 competitors in the show’s classic unconventional materials challenge.

The prize structure is where the episode becomes unusual. The designer responsible for the best look from the winning house receives $20,000. More importantly, House Season 22 earns collective safety if it defeats Season 21. Losing carries the opposite consequence because someone from the current competition must then leave. Bryan enters with immunity, which becomes increasingly significant once his own garment struggles.

Joseph McRae gets an uncomfortable reunion with Season 21

For Joseph, “Battle of the Seasons” is effectively two competitions happening at once. He competed on Season 21 before returning as a full Season 22 contestant, and several of the returning designers were present when his first run ended. Episode 7 also repeats the type of challenge that eliminated him last year: unconventional materials. Joseph immediately recognizes the symmetry and admits that having both experiences collide could get inside his head.

His position is even more complicated because Episode 6 left him distrustful of his current teammates. The Season 22 designers had recently identified Joseph as the weakest remaining competitor despite his record, so he is reluctant to suddenly behave as if they are one happy design house. His teammates notice that distance and complain that he is not participating enough in their group discussions. Yet the finished runway gives Joseph exactly the response he needs. The judges praise his heavily constructed piece as a genuine redemption from the unconventional challenge that previously sent him home.

Bi and Joseph give Season 22 its strongest arguments

Bi delivers perhaps the most emphatically praised Season 22 look of the night. He transforms computer keyboard keys and zip ties into a garment that the judges believe looks far more expensive and sophisticated than its source material. Law Roach tells him that the work demonstrates how dramatically his performance has improved over recent weeks. Iman and the rest of the panel similarly respond to the texture, detailing and wearability rather than merely admiring the gimmick of using keyboards.

Joseph receives another major vote of confidence. His garment becomes so heavy that the model cannot remain on the runway for judging, forcing the panel to assess it through a photograph. That physical problem does not stop the judges from loving the design. Heidi explicitly frames his work as redemption after his Season 21 unconventional materials exit, while the piece’s structural quality and jewelry styling also receive praise. Taken together, Bi and Joseph give House Season 22 two convincing contenders for the individual win.

Yuchen and Jesus make Season 21 difficult to beat

Season 21 is hardly treated as ceremonial opposition. Jesus Estrada earns strong praise for creating a colorful look that reads more like leather than discarded material, and the judges specifically recognize how his work has developed since the previous season. Yuchen Han then produces one of the most celebrated designs of the entire runway. His technologically influenced garment earns comparisons to couture, with Heidi calling it art and praising its ingenuity.

The remaining Season 21 results are less secure. Joan Madison’s proportions and decorative elements receive criticism, while Ethan Mundt’s look impresses in parts but feels inconsistent to the panel. Belania Daley and Antonio Estrada are declared safe alongside Season 22’s Naheim, Jude and Anna. That leaves the judging battle concentrated around a smaller group of standout and vulnerable looks from each house.

Bryan and Jeffrey become Season 22’s biggest problem

Season 22’s danger largely comes from Jeffrey and Bryan. Jeffrey’s creation gets one of the harshest critiques of the night, with Law reducing his assessment to the word “trash” and Iman struggling to understand what the garment is trying to communicate. Jeffrey tries to explain that he spent considerable time helping the rest of his house, but the panel reminds him that assistance will not protect him if his own work is weaker. He realizes that if Season 22 loses, his position is extremely dangerous.

Bryan also receives negative criticism, but immunity protects him. The judges dislike how uncomfortable his model appears in the heavy look and question whether the technical training he discusses is actually visible in the finished garment. Backstage, Jeffrey then challenges Bryan for emphasizing his handmade work without acknowledging that much of the bubble-wrap portion had simply been taped into place. Their disagreement escalates rapidly and leaves House Season 22 fractured only moments before the result.

Who won Project Runway Episode 7?

Episode 7 never tells us. Heidi brings both houses back onto the runway, acknowledges that each produced memorable work and says the judges have reached a decision. The episode cuts off immediately afterward. There is therefore no legitimate basis yet for claiming that Season 21 or Season 22 won, that Bi or Yuchen received the $20,000, or that Jeffrey was eliminated.

The frustration is already visible among viewers. The live Episode 7 discussion includes complaints specifically about another cliffhanger and viewers saying they would continue watching even if the show simply revealed the weekly result. Season 22 has repeatedly delayed elimination resolutions, so this ending fits the season’s editing strategy even if audiences increasingly dislike it.

Episode 8, “Designing with the Stars,” is scheduled to pair the designers with Dancing With the Stars professionals, making the opening minutes the logical place to resolve the decision before the next assignment begins. Freeform has already confirmed the DWTS crossover as the next challenge. Until that result is shown, Episode 7 ends with House Season 22’s survival hanging on a decision viewers were deliberately denied.
