Spoiler warningThis story discusses major plot details and outcomes.

Netflix’s Medusa spends its second season making almost every member of the Hidalgo family look capable of betraying the others. Bárbara Hidalgo returns to the center of Medusa’s corporate battle while Detective Danger Carmelo follows a separate trail of attacks, hidden money and people willing to do almost anything to keep their secrets buried. By the time the 12th and final episode, “Brito,” begins, those two conflicts have become impossible to separate.

The finale reveals that the person pulling many of those threads together has been hiding inside the Hidalgo family all along. Jackie Hidalgo is exposed as much more than Camilo’s apparently submissive wife, while Fabián is revealed as her primary partner in the attacks. Yet catching them is only part of the ending. Bárbara also has to decide whether defeating her enemies is enough, or whether she can finally stop allowing Medusa and the Hidalgo legacy to determine who she becomes.

Jackie Is the Real Mastermind Behind the Attacks

Fabián initially appears to provide the simple answer to the season’s mystery. He is connected to the masked figure targeting Bárbara and Danger, and once investigators begin looking more closely at him, much of the physical threat surrounding the Hidalgos starts making sense. The finale, however, reveals that identifying Fabián is only half of the answer.

The more important figure is Jaqueline “Jackie” Hidalgo. Behind her public image of charity work and loyalty to the family, Jackie has been protecting a financial operation built around money being redirected through her foundations. Bárbara’s rise inside Medusa puts that arrangement in danger because she starts cutting off the structures and people Jackie needs to preserve her influence.

Jackie’s motive is therefore larger than simple jealousy. For years, she has found ways to create her own form of power while living alongside far more dominant members of the Hidalgo family. Once Bárbara threatens the money, status and access she has built, Jackie begins treating her niece not as family but as the obstacle preventing her from reclaiming what she believes belongs to her.

That also changes how viewers should look at Jackie across both seasons. She was not merely caught in the Hidalgo family’s schemes. She knew more than she admitted, including information connected to Gabriel’s earlier plan against Bárbara, and allowed events to progress because Bárbara’s disappearance would have benefited her.

Who Is Brito? Danger Finally Understands the Clue

The title of Episode 12 provides the clue Danger needs to stop looking at “Brito” as a separate person. While examining information gathered by Gunter, he discovers that Jackie was not always known as Jaqueline Hidalgo. Her original identity was Britney Torrecillas.

The name suddenly makes the clue obvious. “Brito” combines the beginning of Britney with the beginning of Torrecillas, effectively hiding Jackie’s real identity in plain sight. Once Danger makes that connection, the financial evidence surrounding Jackie’s foundations no longer looks like an unrelated corporate scandal.

The clue also fits one of Medusa’s recurring ideas about identity. Nearly every important Hidalgo is playing some version of a role, whether it involves business, marriage, family loyalty or morality. Jackie may have perfected that performance better than most because even the people closest to her underestimate what she has been doing.

Danger then gains another important piece of evidence through the disguised voice connected to the attacks. When the recording is examined again, Bárbara recognizes Fabián’s voice, connecting Jackie’s financial motive with the man carrying out her plans. The mystery finally stops being a collection of suspicious events and becomes one coordinated conspiracy.

Why Did Jackie Target Barbara and the Hidalgo Family?

Jackie’s anger intensifies once Bárbara takes control and begins making decisions that threaten the flow of money into her charitable foundations. Jacobo’s reduced position within Medusa adds another personal grievance, but the real issue is that Bárbara is disrupting the system Jackie spent years constructing.

The finale also ties Jackie to several crimes that initially appear to have different motives. Gamboa becomes a problem because he interferes with the arrangements that allowed money from Arácnida to reach Jackie’s foundations. Gunter gets too close to information that could expose her, while the intimidation surrounding Porras and Danger is intended to keep the investigation from reaching its real destination.

Fabián is crucial because Jackie does not carry out everything herself. He gives her someone capable of applying pressure while preserving the respectable image she has built inside the family. That separation between Jackie and the visible attacker is one reason the conspiracy remains difficult to solve for so long.

The reveal also brings Season 2 back to the beginning of Bárbara’s story. Jackie already knew about Gabriel’s intentions in Season 1 and chose not to intervene. In other words, Bárbara’s aunt does not suddenly become dangerous after Bárbara becomes CEO. Season 2 reveals that Jackie had already decided long ago that Bárbara’s removal could work in her favor.

How Does Barbara Trap Jackie and Fabian?

Bárbara ultimately refuses to wait for Jackie to make the next move. Rather than openly accusing her, she uses Jackie’s confidence against her and creates the impression that she has become isolated from the rest of the Hidalgo family. Jackie is led to believe that Bárbara is vulnerable enough to confide in her.

That gives Jackie exactly what she thinks she has always wanted: a Bárbara who finally appears unable to control the family or Medusa on her own. Feeling safe, Jackie begins exposing the truth about her motives and actions instead of maintaining the harmless persona she has spent years cultivating.

The meeting is not the reckless confrontation Jackie assumes it to be. Danger, Porras and the police are part of the plan, giving Bárbara the protection she needs while allowing Jackie to incriminate herself. When Fabián arrives and attempts to finish what Jackie started, law enforcement moves in before Bárbara can become his next victim.

Jackie is arrested, while Fabián is stopped and left badly injured during the confrontation. Jacobo’s response makes Jackie’s defeat even more complete because her own son no longer wants to maintain the relationship after discovering what she has done.

Bárbara therefore defeats Jackie in the opposite way that the Hidalgo family traditionally handles power. Instead of secretly removing an opponent or using the corporation to destroy them, she makes Jackie expose herself and allows the evidence to bring down the conspiracy.

What Happens to Damian, Cristian and the Other Hidalgos?

Jackie’s arrest does not magically repair the wider Hidalgo family. Damián has his own reckoning when multiple women testify about years of abuse and control. He is ultimately sentenced to eight years in prison, and the image of his Medusa-headed cane breaking as he is taken away visually marks the collapse of the authority he once considered untouchable.

For Bárbara, Damián’s imprisonment is not simply revenge. She visits him and chooses to forgive him, but the forgiveness is primarily about freeing herself from the anger and influence he has carried into her life. She no longer wants to become another version of Damián simply because ruthlessness helped her survive inside Medusa.

Cristian also survives the danger surrounding him. Rather than immediately trying to regain another position in the company, he leaves for a time, beginning with a trip to Madrid. By the six-month epilogue, he has returned and appears noticeably more relaxed around Bárbara and the rest of the family.

Those outcomes are important because Season 2 repeatedly asks whether Medusa can ever change while the Hidalgos continue repeating the same behavior. The finale does not pretend the family has suddenly become healthy, but it does remove some of the people and structures that kept reproducing the same cycle.

Do Barbara and Danger End Up Together?

Yes. Bárbara and Danger end Season 2 together, although their relationship has to survive a difficult period before reaching that point. Bárbara’s emotional instability and the pressures surrounding Medusa create distance between them, and their different ideas about the future make their relationship more complicated than simply solving the investigation and living happily ever after.

Once the immediate danger is over, however, the series gives them an unusually definitive romantic ending. The story jumps forward six months and reveals Bárbara and Danger getting married on the beach with their friends and family around them. Cristian has returned, Maya is present, and the celebration feels deliberately removed from the corporate spaces where Bárbara has spent so much of the season fighting for control.

The wedding matters because Danger has consistently represented something Bárbara struggles to find among the Hidalgos: a relationship that does not depend on business power. He challenges her, disagrees with her and sometimes walks away from her decisions, but he does not need to control Medusa in order to remain part of her life.

The finale script confirms the six-month time jump and the beach wedding, with Bárbara and Danger exchanging vows before celebrating with their family and friends.

What Does Barbara Going Underwater Mean?

The wedding could easily have served as Medusa’s final scene, but the series chooses to end on Bárbara herself. She returns to the sea with Maya and Esperanza and goes into the water, bringing the story visually back to the place where her transformation began.

The sea has followed Bárbara from the beginning. Season 1 starts with an attempt on her life that throws her into the water and effectively destroys the person she had been before. Returning there voluntarily in the Season 2 finale means something very different because this time Bárbara is not being attacked, escaping or fighting for survival.

Underwater, she confronts a vision of Medusa that resembles Bárbara herself. Instead of trying to destroy it or flee from it, she embraces the figure. The finale script explicitly frames Medusa as both victim and oppressor before Bárbara chooses not to be trapped by either identity.

That is the real resolution of Bárbara’s Season 2 arc. For much of the season, she becomes increasingly consumed by the idea that keeping control of Medusa is the same thing as protecting herself and her family. The more she fights the Hidalgos using their own methods, the harder it becomes to tell whether she is defeating the system or becoming another version of it.

The underwater embrace suggests that Bárbara finally stops treating the darker parts of herself as something separate. She accepts what happened to her and what she became because of it without allowing that history to dictate what happens next. When she emerges from the water and rejoins Maya and Esperanza, it is a rebirth that mirrors the beginning of the series without repeating its trauma.

Is Jackie the “Demonio Hidalgo” Teased in Season 1?

Jackie’s reveal also provides an answer to the lingering mystery left behind by Gabriel. His warning about a dangerous figure within the Hidalgo family suggested that Bárbara had survived one conspiracy only to remain surrounded by a larger threat.

Season 2 spends considerable time encouraging suspicion around the obvious candidates, especially powerful Hidalgo figures with histories of manipulation. Jackie works because she initially appears less threatening than those people. Her ability to remain underestimated is precisely what allows her to operate for so long.

Whether Jackie alone represents everything implied by that warning is less important than what the reveal does thematically. The “demon” is not an outside enemy trying to destroy the Hidalgo empire. It comes from the same environment of secrecy, entitlement and manipulation that created Medusa’s internal wars in the first place.

By the finale, Bárbara finally understands that exposing one villain will never be enough if she continues carrying that system inside herself. Jackie can be arrested and Damián can be imprisoned, but Bárbara’s final victory comes when she decides that surviving the Hidalgo family does not require becoming its next monster.
