Halloween Wars Season 16 Episode 3 Recap: Who Went Home in Misfit Monsters?

Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” brings former competitors back into the kitchen for Season 16, turning the usual pumpkin, cake and sugar artistry into an all-star test where past experience does not necessarily guarantee safety. Episode 3, titled “Back from the Dead: Misfit Monsters,” makes that especially clear as the remaining teams are separated into direct head-to-head battles before three of them are forced into one final elimination challenge.

Jonathan Bennett introduces a four-hour opening round built around monsters that do not always get top billing during Halloween. Trolls, ghouls and demons become the stars, while every team must also produce a mummy-inspired tasting element with multiple layers or a spiral construction. With Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller judging, winning a duel means immediate safety, while losing sends a team into another high-pressure round.

The Deadly Duel Returns With Three Head-to-Head Battles

With six teams remaining, the competition brings back the Deadly Duel format and creates three separate matchups. Fright Squad faces Team Ghoul’d with trolls, Howlers takes on Creepers with ghouls, and defending champions Poisonous Perfection battle Bloodsuckers with demons.

The format immediately changes how the teams approach the challenge. They are not trying to rank ahead of an entire field. They only need to outperform the team standing directly across from them, which makes every design decision and unfinished detail potentially decisive.

Poisonous Perfection and Bloodsuckers are first into the spotlight. Poisonous Perfection creates “Miss Lust 2026,” turning its demon into an elaborate beauty pageant winner. The character’s curled red hair becomes one of the display’s most noticeable features, while the team also takes the difficult route of incorporating cake directly into the figure’s body.

Their tasting element is a pistachio and cardamom roulade with raspberry and rose cream, finished with caramelized white chocolate ganache. The judges particularly appreciate the restrained use of cardamom and the clearly defined layers, although Shinmin wants another textural component to push it even further.

Poisonous Perfection Beats Bloodsuckers in the Demon Duel

Bloodsuckers takes its demon in a completely different direction by creating a rave DJ behind a turntable. The team manages to complete an ambitious figure despite some stressful moments during construction, and the judges respond well to the shading, veins and smaller details on the finished character.

Cesar’s dessert is equally ambitious, combining black cocoa pate a choux with passion fruit, tahini coconut cream, dark chocolate and black sesame. Its range of layers and textures fits the mummy-inspired requirement well. The main weakness is the showpiece itself, which the judges feel appears too static for a character that is supposed to be caught in the middle of a high-energy performance.

Poisonous Perfection ultimately wins the demon duel. The team’s bigger construction risk pays off, while Bloodsuckers is told that its concept was strong but its final execution did not reach the same level.

Team Ghoul’d and Fright Squad Deliver the Closest Duel

The troll matchup becomes arguably the toughest decision of the first round. Fright Squad creates a punk-rock lead singer troll complete with a guitar, expressive features and the attitude of a performer commanding the stage. The judges love the character’s face and the sense of animation in the finished sculpture.

Fright Squad also produces one of the round’s smartest tasting presentations. Its traditional baklava is layered, rolled and spiraled with cardamom, pistachios, walnuts and rose-water syrup, then incorporated into the troll’s microphone. The dessert earns enthusiastic feedback for its flaky texture and clean execution.

Team Ghoul’d answers with a more story-driven concept. Its troll has decided that the more famous monsters have enjoyed the spotlight for long enough, creating a scene in which the character is finally becoming the main attraction. The display gives the judges plenty to examine, especially the anatomy and fine sculptural work.

The team also has to recover from a construction problem involving part of the piece, but the repair is clean enough that the judges say the issue is effectively hidden. Christophe’s tasting element, inspired by millefeuille, combines puff pastry with pastry cream, Chantilly and Tahitian vanilla. It becomes another major strength for Team Ghoul’d.

Both teams receive unusually strong feedback, and the judges acknowledge how close the matchup is. In the end, the greater level of detail gives Team Ghoul’d the win, sending Fright Squad into the elimination round.

Howlers Wins Despite Creepers Having One of the Best Desserts

Creepers and Howlers are given ghouls, and both teams decide to turn their characters into unlikely stars. Creepers creates a champion wrestler, giving its ghoul an athletic pose and plenty of physical movement. The judges like the muscular shaping, although visible structure and unfinished-looking areas around the wrestling ropes keep the display from feeling completely polished.

Marianne provides a major bright spot with the tasting element. Her chocolate Swiss roll features butterscotch creme diplomat with peanut and feuilletine crunch, creating a clear spiral that directly connects to the mummy-wrap brief. Shinmin considers it one of the strongest desserts of the day, giving Marianne a significant personal success even as the team remains vulnerable.

Howlers creates a rock-and-roll ghoul, and one of the biggest gambles is spending valuable time on an edible vest designed to resemble leather. That decision works. The judges single out the vest as a particularly convincing detail, while the character itself has enough personality to separate the piece from Creepers’ entry.

The Howlers’ dessert combines citrus mascarpone cream, lemon curd, raspberry coulis and white chocolate. The judges enjoy the bright filling but want a stronger sense of layering from the pastry. Even with that criticism, the showpiece gives Howlers the overall advantage, and the team wins the ghoul duel. That leaves Bloodsuckers, Fright Squad and Creepers facing elimination.

Tenisha Steps Away During the Final Challenge

For the last round, Jonathan gives the three teams two hours to modernize a classic monster for a new era. Bloodsuckers chooses a zombie influenced by children who are constantly attached to tablets, Fright Squad imagines a mummy transformed by modern fitness culture, and Creepers begins developing a werewolf as an unconventional support animal.

The challenge changes dramatically for Creepers when Tenisha Billington does not return to the work area. In a conversation shown during the episode, Tenisha explains that she has been overwhelmed by the competition and needs to put her mental peace first. She does not rejoin Marianne Daquino and William Wilson for the remainder of the challenge.

Marianne and William decide to continue as a two-person team rather than give up their place in the competition. The situation puts them at an obvious numerical disadvantage, but it also produces one of the episode’s most determined stretches as they divide responsibilities, accept advice from the other competitors and focus on getting a complete figure in front of the judges.

Their finished character is Lola, a modern support werewolf. Considering the circumstances and the limited time, the result surprises even some of the other competitors watching from the side.

Fright Squad and Bloodsuckers Recover Under Pressure

Fright Squad takes the fitness trend and turns a traditionally thin mummy into a muscular gym enthusiast called “Gym Wrap Mummy.” The team spends much of the final minutes applying the character’s wrappings, but the eventual finish impresses the judges, particularly the shading and the way the bandages appear to sit naturally over the body.

The judges do feel Fright Squad could have pushed the colors and comedy further. Still, the construction is controlled enough to keep the team firmly in contention when the elimination decision is made.

Bloodsuckers has a more difficult road with its tablet-obsessed zombie baby. Anthony originally plans a more complete body but realizes that the time available will not allow him to execute every element at the level he wants. Instead of forcing the original design, the team changes course and incorporates the incomplete lower body into the character’s monster concept.

That adjustment proves important. Rather than focusing on what was missing from the original plan, the judges view the change as a successful creative pivot and praise the way Bloodsuckers turns a time problem into part of its finished story.

Who Went Home on Halloween Wars Season 16 Episode 3?

Creepers is eliminated from “Halloween Wars” Season 16 in Episode 3. Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller make it clear that Marianne and William deserve significant credit for completing the challenge as a two-person team, and Andrew even describes the final piece as possibly the team’s best work so far.

What ultimately separates Creepers from Fright Squad and Bloodsuckers is refinement. The judges see noticeable open space and a lower overall level of execution in the Creepers display, while the other two teams produce more finished showpieces. Under normal circumstances those differences might have felt routine, but the fact that Marianne and William completed the piece after unexpectedly losing a teammate makes the result far more competitive than expected.

Marianne leaves emphasizing that she and William never stopped working, while William views their final challenge as the point at which they discovered how well they could operate together. It is a more encouraging exit than their earlier struggles suggested they might receive.

Episode 3 therefore ends with five teams still in the competition: Poisonous Perfection, Team Ghoul’d, Howlers, Fright Squad and Bloodsuckers. More importantly, “Misfit Monsters” establishes that this all-star season is no longer giving anyone much room for a mediocre round. Former champions, experienced returning artists and redemption-seeking competitors are now close enough in ability that a few missing details can decide who stays and who leaves.
