The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 5 Episode 8 Recap: This Is the Countess Speaking

The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 5 continues its celebration of 20 years of Housewives history by bringing different generations of Bravo personalities into the same room, often with wildly different ideas about how that history should be treated. Episode 8, “Mic Drop, Please,” remains in New York City, where Luann de Lesseps’ Halloween celebration becomes less of a party and more of a full-scale Countess production.

Luann takes command of the evening, but her determination to keep the spotlight soon creates problems with Porsha Williams and Gizelle Bryant. Meanwhile, Alex McCord makes the most of her return to the Housewives universe, a mentalist leaves the women baffled, and an argument over group photos somehow becomes one of the night’s biggest issues.

Jessel Apologizes to Dorinda

The episode picks up with the Halloween party still underway and some unfinished tension surrounding Jessel Taank’s reaction to Dorinda Medley’s costume. Dorinda has recreated her memorable Lady Gaga-inspired bubble look, but Jessel’s earlier comments have not gone unnoticed.

Chanel Ayan tells Jessel that her reaction came across as rude, prompting Jessel to apologize. For Dorinda, the costume means more than simply repeating an old Halloween look. It represents a recognizable moment from RHONY history, which makes Jessel’s apparent unfamiliarity with it stand out during a season built around celebrating the franchise’s past.

The exchange is brief, but it highlights one of the more interesting dynamics of the New York stop. Longtime Housewives such as Dorinda are surrounded by women from newer eras of the franchise, creating occasional clashes over what counts as iconic Housewives history.

A Mentalist Leaves the Housewives Confused

The Halloween entertainment then takes an unexpected turn when a mentalist performs for the group. Kyle Richards becomes part of one demonstration in which she appears to experience physical sensations without actually being touched, leaving her visibly unsettled by what is happening.

Teresa Giudice is later asked to think of somebody important from her life before she became a public figure. The instructions surprisingly leave Teresa struggling to choose someone, turning what should have been a straightforward mentalism demonstration into a funny moment of confusion.

Chanel Ayan proves to be a more willing participant. She chooses someone she believes the performer could never possibly identify, only to be shocked when he seemingly succeeds. The biggest trick, however, involves Luann, who participates in a levitation illusion that she will make sure everyone remembers before the night is over.

Luann’s Speech Takes Over the Party

If there is one person completely comfortable with a microphone, it is Luann de Lesseps. Her toast starts as another part of the Halloween festivities but soon develops into an extraordinarily long speech that reportedly lasts more than half an hour.

The other Housewives gradually lose patience. Gizelle is particularly irritated after realizing that Luann has managed to speak at length while barely acknowledging her. Porsha, meanwhile, is still trying to reach the party after being delayed on the way there.

By the time Porsha finally arrives, Luann is still speaking. Porsha begins talking with the women around her instead of focusing entirely on the speech, something Luann immediately notices. Rather than letting it pass, Luann walks toward Porsha with the microphone and calls her out in front of the room.

What could have been a small disagreement quickly becomes the defining conflict of the party.

Porsha and Luann Clash Over Her Late Arrival

Luann is already frustrated that Porsha arrived roughly two hours late, while Porsha has little patience for being publicly reprimanded after finally making it to the event. Their argument plays out in front of the other guests, with Luann still operating as though she is hosting a live show rather than having a private disagreement.

The confrontation also reveals how personally Luann has taken the New York portion of the trip. She sees the party as her major moment during the group’s visit to her city, so Porsha’s absence for much of it feels like a bigger slight to her than Porsha intended.

For the rest of the women, however, Luann’s reaction begins to reinforce another concern: almost everything happening in New York seems to circle back to Luann.

Alex McCord Steals the Talent Show

The Halloween party also provides a nostalgic return for original RHONY cast member Alex McCord, who has traveled from Australia and arrives dressed as Kylie Minogue. Her appearance becomes much more substantial once the women hold a talent competition.

Luann, Jill Zarin, and Dorinda’s real estate agent Laurie Cooper serve as judges while several Housewives present their acts. Teresa attempts the saxophone, while Lisa Barlow performs an original rap that plays directly into her New York roots.

Alex, however, delivers the most unexpected performance. She launches into a breakdancing routine inspired by Australian breakdancer Raygun and incorporates her famous “Herman Munster shoes” by wearing them on her hands. It is an intentionally ridiculous combination of old RHONY references and recent pop culture, making Alex’s long-awaited return feel appropriately strange and memorable.

Gizelle Calls Out Luann’s Need for the Spotlight

The atmosphere shifts again when the women prepare for a group photograph. Luann moves toward the front, and Gizelle finally voices something she has apparently been noticing throughout the trip: Luann regularly finds a way to position herself at the center.

The episode backs Gizelle’s argument with footage from previous group pictures, but Luann strongly rejects the idea that she needs to be the center of attention. Coming immediately after her extended speech, the denial does little to end the conversation.

Luann becomes increasingly frustrated and returns to Porsha’s late arrival as evidence that she was the one who had been disrespected. She even points out that Porsha missed her levitation trick, showing just how seriously she has taken every part of the evening.

Luann Is Still Upset the Next Morning

A night’s sleep does not change Luann’s perspective. The following morning, she FaceTimes Dorinda from her hotel room and explains how disappointed she is by the way the evening unfolded in her own city.

Dorinda attempts to respond, but Luann has plenty to say and little interest in moving past the subject just yet. Once the women reunite in the Sprinter van, the disagreement immediately returns.

Vicki Gunvalson tells Luann that she behaves as though she is performing cabaret all the time, while Porsha and Luann once again defend their respective sides of the previous night’s argument.

Luann Brings Photo Evidence

The debate about Luann always standing in the center of photographs takes an especially Housewives-style turn when Luann arrives prepared with evidence. She produces multiple photos showing moments when she was not positioned in the middle, and flashbacks reveal occasions when she actively encouraged other women to take the center spot.

Vicki, however, has a different piece of evidence. She reminds Luann of an earlier photo session in Miami when Luann accidentally positioned herself partly on top of her while posing. The flashback shows Vicki repeatedly asking Luann to move while Luann remains focused on the camera.

It is a wonderfully minor dispute to carry such enormous importance, but that is also what makes the episode work. Episode 8 transforms a Halloween party, a microphone, a late arrival, and several group photos into genuine Housewives conflict.

As the New York chapter approaches its conclusion, Luann has unquestionably made herself the central character of the episode, whether she intended to or not. With the trip still heading toward Dorinda’s Bluestone Manor in the Berkshires, however, the Countess may soon have to surrender home-field advantage to another RHONY veteran.
