One of the twins will be eliminated from The Traitors Australia, but Season 3 Episode 8 does not reveal whether Luke or Josh loses the Death Match.
The episode ends during the deciding round, with Luke and Josh tied at one victory each. Only two cards remain on the table when the screen cuts away. The preview for the following episode confirms that one twin has been “wiped from the board,” but deliberately hides the survivor’s identity.
Therefore, the confirmed answer at the end of Episode 8 is that one of them has been murdered in the game, but viewers have not yet been shown whether it is Luke or Josh.
As always on The Traitors, “murdered” means eliminated from the competition. Neither brother is placed in any real physical danger.
Why Were Luke and Josh Chosen for the Death Match?
The Death Match begins with an unusual order delivered to Kirby and newly recruited Traitor Rhys.
Instead of murdering a Faithful in the usual way, they are instructed to select two Faithfuls who will face each other in a card game with deadly consequences. Before the clock chimes the following night, the Traitors must secretly write the two names in positions four and 13 on the billiards chalkboard. One contestant will survive. The other will leave the game.
Kirby and Rhys briefly discuss their options, but the twins quickly become the obvious choices. Luke and Josh have emerged as one of the most influential partnerships in the castle. They helped the Faithful identify two Traitors in succession, and Luke has become increasingly confident about his ability to read the game.
Kirby considers Luke the leader of the pair. Rhys suggests that if Josh disappears, Luke may lose his “rudder” and become less effective. Kirby takes the idea even further. Rather than choose only one twin and another unrelated Faithful, she decides to place both brothers into the same Death Match.
It is an effective Traitor strategy because Kirby benefits no matter which brother loses. One powerful Faithful leaves, while the survivor returns without his closest ally and potentially becomes easier to manipulate.
How Do Kirby and Rhys Select the Twins?
Kirby and Rhys must complete their assignment without being seen. During a group conversation, Kirby slips into the billiards room to write Luke and Josh’s names on the required positions. Rhys stays close to the entrance and prepares to distract anyone who might follow her inside.
The task is especially dangerous because being caught near the chalkboard would almost certainly expose Kirby as a Traitor. However, the pair complete it successfully.
Kirby celebrates the decision as “brother against brother” and “twin against twin.” For her, the Death Match is not only a murder opportunity. It is a way to dismantle the strongest partnership still threatening her position.
Later that night, both Luke and Josh receive mandatory invitations. Josh immediately suspects that his brother has also been selected, correctly recognising that the Traitors would want to separate them.
When Luke enters the Death Match room, Josh is not surprised to see him.
How Does the Luke and Josh Death Match Work?
Host Gretel Killeen places eight cards in front of the brothers. Seven are death cards, while only one is a life card. Luke and Josh take turns selecting and turning over one card at a time. Whoever finds the life card wins that game.
The first brother to win two games survives and returns to the castle. The other is officially murdered and removed from the competition.
There is no puzzle to solve or strategy that can guarantee victory. Although the brothers can choose any remaining card, the result ultimately depends on chance.
Luke wins the first game by finding the life card. Josh then finds it during the second game, tying the Death Match at one victory each.
That sends them into a third and final game. Whoever discovers the life card in that round stays in the competition.

Does Luke or Josh Win the Final Round?
Episode 8 does not show the winner. The deciding round continues until only two cards remain. Both brothers understand that the next selection could determine which of them stays and which of them goes home.
One of the twins explains that his heart is racing and that he must choose correctly to remain in the game. However, the card is not revealed. The episode cuts to the closing preview before confirming the result.
The preview establishes only one important fact: the Death Match produces a victim. One twin is described as being “wiped from the board,” meaning there will not be a surprise in which both brothers survive.
There is also no reliable clue in the editing that identifies the winner. Kirby says before the match that her money is on Josh because she believes he has more fight left in him, but determination cannot influence a game based entirely on randomly placed cards.
Until the next episode shows the result, any claim that Luke or Josh definitely survives would be speculation.
Why Does Kirby Benefit Regardless of Who Survives?
Kirby has already developed a plan for either outcome. If Josh returns alone, the Traitors can encourage the theory that he was secretly recruited and arranged for his brother to be removed. Rhys specifically notes that Josh’s return could help them suggest he had been a Traitor all along.
If Luke survives, he will return in a weakened position. His certainty about Claudia at the Round Table resulted in another Faithful being banished. Luke had been so confident in his accusation that he effectively placed his reputation on the line.
After Claudia revealed that she was a Faithful, several contestants began reconsidering Luke’s influence. Losing Josh would leave him emotionally shaken at the same time that his credibility is collapsing.
Kirby’s real objective is not simply to eliminate one twin. She wants the survivor to feel isolated, unstable and vulnerable to accusations. As she explains, removing one brother should rattle the other, which is exactly where she wants the Faithfuls.
Which Twin Is Murdered?
At the end of The Traitors Australia Season 3 Episode 8, the identity of the murdered twin remains unconfirmed.
Luke wins the opening round, Josh wins the second, and the decisive third game ends on a cliffhanger. The next episode will reveal which brother found the final life card and which one was eliminated.
What is already certain is that Kirby’s plan succeeds. Luke and Josh entered the night as a powerful Faithful partnership, but only one of them will return to continue hunting the Traitors.
