The Traitors Australia Season 3 Episode 8 belongs to Kirby. After losing both Alvin and Alex, she enters the night as the game’s only remaining Traitor. By the end of the episode, however, Kirby has recruited a new partner, helped eliminate an innocent Faithful and forced twins Luke and Josh into a death match that only one can survive.

Luke begins the day convinced he has solved the game for a third consecutive time. Unfortunately for the Faithfuls, his confidence proves more useful to Kirby than to them. His accusation sends Claudia home, gives the real Traitors a fresh hiding place and leaves one of the Faithfuls’ strongest alliances divided before the next breakfast.

Kirby Blackmails Rhys to Become a Traitor

With Alex banished, Gretel informs Kirby that continuing as the sole Traitor is not an option. She must blackmail a Faithful, meaning that the chosen player can either join her or be murdered immediately.

Kirby considers several candidates. Lawson would be dangerous because almost nobody suspects him, while Krissy’s forceful personality could help direct future votes. Kirby ultimately chooses Rhys, partly because suspicion has already followed them throughout the game.

That makes Rhys useful in two different ways. They can help Kirby misdirect the Faithful, but Kirby could also sacrifice them if the pressure becomes too great. Rhys understands that possibility, even describing themselves as a potential “lamb to the slaughter,” but the alternative is leaving the competition. They accept the blackmail and put on the Traitor’s cloak.

Kirby advises Rhys not to change their normal behaviour. Since everyone will know that somebody was recruited when no murder is announced, even a slight personality shift could expose the newest Traitor.

The two then receive an additional assignment. There will be no conventional murder, but they must secretly place two Faithfuls’ names on positions four and 13 of the billiards chalkboard. Those players will later meet in a card game with deadly consequences.

Luke Announces That He Has Found the Original Traitor

When every remaining contestant arrives at breakfast, the group immediately understands that a Faithful has joined the Traitors.

Rhys struggles to act naturally while avoiding too much contact with Kirby. Fortunately for them, Luke quickly gives everyone a more dramatic subject to discuss.

Luke announces that he knows the identity of the final original Traitor. He refuses to reveal the name before the Round Table, claiming he wants that person to spend the day worrying about being exposed.

Kirby initially fears that Luke has finally identified her. Keira and Josh also suspect that Kirby may be the target because she has appeared on the twins’ lists before. Instead, Luke has become convinced that Claudia is the Traitor.

His confidence comes from correctly helping to expose Alvin and Alex. That recent success means the other Faithfuls are inclined to trust him, even before hearing his evidence. Kirby recognises the opportunity and begins encouraging doubts about the twins, arguing that Luke and Josh have gained too much control over the house’s conversations and votes.

Meanwhile, Kirby and Rhys agree on the two names for their secret death match: Luke and Josh. Rather than murder one twin directly, they intend to make the brothers eliminate each other.

The Bunker Mission Gives Luke a Double Vote

The contestants are divided into three groups and placed in separate bunker rooms. Each room contains a telephone and a large red button.

The first team to press its button earns $10,000 for the prize pot, and the second team adds another $10,000. If the third team also presses, however, the entire $20,000 is lost. There is another complication: the final team to press receives a dagger that gives one player two votes at the Round Table.

The teams attempt to coordinate through unreliable telephone calls, but their conflicting plans create confusion. Two groups eventually press, securing the full $20,000 and increasing the prize pot to $117,500.

Luke, Lawson and Rhys form the team that receives the dagger. Rhys had hoped to prevent Luke from gaining that power, but their attempt to press at a strategically safe moment backfires. Luke ultimately carries the dagger into the Round Table.

Before leaving for the vote, Kirby slips into the billiards room and writes Luke and Josh’s names on the chalkboard while Rhys quietly watches the doorway. The new Traitor partnership completes its first covert assignment without being caught.

Why Is Claudia Banished?

At the Round Table, Luke finally presents his theory.

He argues that Claudia resisted his suspicions about Alex because she wanted to protect a fellow Traitor. He also believes Claudia pushed attention toward Rhys to distract the group, concealed herself during an earlier mission and behaved suspiciously while pursuing Shields.

Claudia rejects the accusation. She says Luke has either been recruited or allowed his previous success to make him overconfident. Her desire for Shields, she explains, came from believing that vocal players such as herself and the twins were likely murder targets.

Her defence is reasonable, but Luke’s record gives his words more weight. The group had followed his reasoning to two Traitors, and several players are reluctant to oppose him now.

Rachael, Rhys, Lawson, Kirby, Josh, Keira, Krissy and Tully all place their votes on Claudia. Claudia votes for Rhys. Luke then uses the dagger to cast two additional votes against Claudia, although the result is already beyond doubt.

Claudia sarcastically notes how “useful” the dagger has been before revealing the truth: she is a Faithful.

The announcement devastates the table. Luke had promised to put his own game on the line if he was wrong, and Claudia’s reveal immediately makes him appear vulnerable. Keira begins considering whether Luke himself could have been recruited, while other contestants wonder whether the twins have been controlling the group rather than helping it.

Kirby could not have asked for a better result. The Faithfuls have removed one of their own, Luke’s credibility has been damaged and attention is moving toward the very players who have posed the greatest threat to her.

Who Dies in the Luke and Josh Death Match?

After the Faithfuls retire, Kirby and Rhys meet again. They discuss redirecting suspicion away from themselves and toward players such as Lawson. Rhys is impressed by the amount of work Kirby has done to remain hidden, but that admiration also makes them cautious about trusting her completely.

Luke and Josh then separately receive invitations to a mandatory death match. As Josh anticipates, his opponent is his twin brother.

Gretel places eight cards on the table. Seven are death cards and one is a life card. The brothers take turns selecting cards, with the player who discovers the life card winning that round. The first twin to win two rounds survives, while the other is murdered.

Luke and Josh split the first two games, leaving the match tied at one round each. The deciding game comes down to its final cards, but Episode 8 ends before revealing which brother finds the life card.

Therefore, neither Luke nor Josh is confirmed as the murder victim within this episode. The cliffhanger is deliberate. Kirby’s plan works regardless of the result: one influential twin will disappear, and the survivor will return emotionally shaken and potentially vulnerable to suspicion.
