Roselyn arrives in ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ carrying a relationship secret almost as uncomfortable as anything surrounding the bride and groom. She is dating Nick, a 27-year-old student who once tutored her son Wesley in middle school, and the two remain together by the end of the movie. Roselyn initially tries to keep Nick away from the wedding after Wesley reacts badly to their relationship, but that decision changes once the deeper conflict between Roselyn and her son finally comes into the open. Nick’s importance is not simply that he is considerably younger than Roselyn. His presence forces her to stop organizing her life around other people’s judgment, particularly Wesley’s unresolved anger over his parents’ divorce.

Who Is Nick and How Does He Know Wesley?
Nick is not a stranger Roselyn recently met. Before becoming her boyfriend, he was Wesley’s middle school tutor, which immediately makes their relationship more awkward from Wesley’s perspective. Netflix identifies Nick as 27 and describes him as a student, while Roselyn is an established real estate executive who runs a multimillion-dollar business.
That history explains why Wesley does not see Nick as simply another younger man dating his mother. Nick belongs to a period of Wesley’s own childhood, making the relationship feel much closer to home. Roselyn knows her friends are likely to have strong opinions about the age difference as well, which is why she has kept the romance quiet. Italy is effectively the first time the larger group is forced to confront it.
Why Does Wesley Hate Roselyn and Nick’s Relationship?
Wesley’s problem with Nick is tied to much older resentment toward Roselyn. He has not fully forgiven his mother for the collapse of her marriage to his father, Harvey, and he believes Roselyn bears much of the responsibility for what happened between them. Nick consequently becomes another reason for Wesley to feel that his mother is moving on from a family history that he has not properly understood.
The movie eventually reveals that Wesley has been judging the divorce without knowing the most important information. Harvey struggles with drug addiction, and Roselyn has deliberately protected her son’s image of his father rather than telling Wesley everything that happened. Her silence has therefore worked against her. By shielding Harvey, she allowed Wesley to construct a version of the divorce in which Roselyn became the person easiest to blame.
Why Did Roselyn Keep Nick a Secret?
Roselyn hides Nick because she expects exactly the reaction she receives. Her friends are opinionated about relationships, and the age difference alone is enough to make Nick an easy target for jokes and criticism. The situation becomes even more sensitive because he once had a direct connection to Wesley as his tutor. Netflix’s official character guide notes that Roselyn has deliberately kept the relationship from the group until the trip to Italy makes the secret impossible to maintain.
Her secrecy also reflects a larger problem in Roselyn’s life. She is professionally successful and financially independent, yet she is still allowing Wesley’s feelings about his father to dictate aspects of her personal life. Instead of asking whether Nick makes her happy, she spends much of the conflict worrying about whether everybody else will accept him. That is why the relationship becomes more meaningful once the truth about Harvey finally surfaces.
Does Roselyn Break Up With Nick?
Roselyn does briefly push Nick away rather than continue fighting everyone about him. She asks him to leave during the escalating family conflict, seemingly choosing peace with Wesley over defending the relationship. Nick, however, later supports Roselyn during the confrontation in which Wesley finally learns more about what happened with Harvey. His involvement changes the dynamic because he is no longer merely the younger boyfriend causing embarrassment at a wedding.
Roselyn ultimately decides to stop rejecting Nick simply because loving him is inconvenient for everyone around her. Netflix’s own ending explanation describes her as choosing to let Nick love her after he comes to her aid during the confrontation. That is about as definitive an answer as the movie gives regarding their immediate future. They are still a couple when their storyline closes.
Why Roselyn and Nick Matter to the Movie
Roselyn and Nick’s relationship works because it gives the film a different version of the same question facing Jasmine and Wesley. The younger couple has been hiding the ugly parts of their relationship because they are afraid of disappointing their families. Roselyn, meanwhile, hides a relationship she actually wants because she is afraid of being judged by her son and her friends. Both storylines require somebody to stop performing the version of love that everyone else expects.
Roselyn’s ending is therefore less about whether viewers approve of the age difference and more about whether she is entitled to make the decision herself. Wesley does have understandable reasons for being uncomfortable, especially given Nick’s history as his former tutor, but his anger is also tangled up with years of misinformation about Harvey. Once that buried family history is exposed, Roselyn no longer has the same reason to keep sacrificing her own relationship to protect her son’s idealized picture of his father. Nick remains beside her, making their ending one of the movie’s clearer choices in favor of an imperfect relationship being lived openly rather than a socially acceptable one being performed for everybody else.
