Why Did Dani Imbert and Jonnie Gurie Split? The TOWIE Messages Explained

Dani Imbert appears to be completely done with Jonnie Gurie after learning that he had been messaging other women during their on-and-off relationship. In The Only Way Is Essex Season 37 Episode 9, Dani says the messages were happening “throughout” their situation and that discovering them finally gave her the clarity to end things. Jonnie disputes part of the timeline and argues that at least one conversation happened when he believed he and Dani were finished. Other cast members challenge that explanation, however, claiming there are receipts showing Dani and Jonnie were still together around the time one of the messages was sent.

What Did Dani Find Out About Jonnie?

Dani says she discovered that Jonnie had been messaging other girls behind her back. During a conversation after the cast returns from Albania, she is asked where things stand between them and gives a fairly definitive answer. Once she learned about the other messages, she says she simply “sacked it off.”

What appears to hurt Dani most is not only that Jonnie spoke to another woman. She says it had been happening throughout their situation, at a time when Jonnie had also been questioning her behavior and making her feel guilty about going out. Her friends immediately connect his jealousy to what was apparently happening privately.

For Dani, that discovery changes the way she looks back at their arguments. Instead of wondering whether she had done something wrong, she says receiving the messages actually gave her a sense of peace.

What Were the Receipts About?

The episode shows Jonnie being challenged over the timing of his conversations with other women. He acknowledges speaking to another girl but argues that his mindset at the time was that he and Dani were finished. The other cast members do not accept that explanation.

They claim there are receipts showing Jonnie and Dani had been together on the same day, or possibly the same night, that he messaged another woman. Jonnie continues to insist that he never spoke to the girl while he and Dani were in a genuinely good place.

That disagreement is important because TOWIE does not present viewers with every message and timestamp in full. What is clear is that Dani believes the evidence proves enough for her to walk away, while Jonnie disputes the interpretation of when the messages were sent.

Why Was Jonnie’s Jealousy Such a Big Issue?

Jonnie had previously been upset about Dani going out and about another man putting his arm around her. Dani had also acknowledged going on a double date with that person in the past. Those incidents created repeated arguments between the pair during the Albania trip.

The problem in Episode 9 is the apparent double standard. Cast members point out that Jonnie had been vocal about not wanting to be disrespected while apparently speaking to other women himself. Did Jonnie Try to Get Dani Back?

Yes. Dani reveals that only a couple of days after returning home, she received an extremely long message from Jonnie. She describes it as him pouring his heart out and telling her how strongly he feels about her.

Jonnie apparently told Dani that he cared deeply about her and loved her. Under different circumstances, that might have been enough to reopen the relationship. Dani’s reaction makes clear that it arrived too late.

She essentially says Jonnie should have expressed those feelings while she still cared about fixing things. After everything that happened, she believes they have gone beyond the point where an emotional message can undo the damage.

Are Dani and Jonnie Back Together?

There is no indication in Episode 9 that Dani wants to reconcile with Jonnie. Her position is unusually firm compared with the back-and-forth nature of their earlier relationship. She says there is no coming back from what happened.

That is notable because their relationship had previously survived repeated rows and mixed signals. Jonnie could say they were finished one minute and then end up spending time with Dani again shortly afterward. Episode 9 feels different because Dani is no longer debating whether they can make the relationship work.

Jonnie may still have feelings for her, but the episode does not show those feelings changing Dani’s mind.

There are signs that Dani is moving forward, although she has not publicly confirmed a new relationship. That development fits with Dani’s position in Episode 9. She does not sound like someone waiting for Jonnie to prove himself again. Instead, she appears relieved that the messages gave her a reason to stop revisiting the same relationship.

Dani has also spoken about spending time in Dubai, suggesting that her immediate plans extend well beyond trying to repair things with Jonnie.

Why the Dani and Jonnie Relationship Finally Fell Apart

The clearest answer is that trust had already become fragile before Dani discovered the other messages. Their Albania arguments involved jealousy, accusations and repeated uncertainty over whether they were together or finished. The messages then gave Dani a reason to believe that the standards Jonnie expected from her were not the standards he followed himself.

Jonnie’s version is that at least some of his behavior happened when he believed their relationship was over. Dani and several of their castmates clearly see the timeline differently. TOWIE does not independently prove every accusation on screen, so that disagreement should remain part of the story.

What is no longer especially ambiguous is Dani’s decision. Jonnie tried to explain his feelings afterward, but she considers the relationship finished. For a couple that spent much of their time moving between arguments and reconciliation, the messages appear to have been the point where Dani finally stopped wanting another round.
