Alix Earle and Braxton Berrios did not break up because of one explosive betrayal or a single fight. Earle Meets World makes the end of their relationship look much more gradual. Long distance kept them apart, communication became increasingly limited, their intimacy declined, and Alix began questioning whether she was ready for the marriage and long-term commitment Braxton appeared to want. By December 2025, both had reached a point where continuing the relationship no longer seemed right, even though Alix still considered Braxton her first real love. The Netflix series also makes clear that ending things did not immediately erase her feelings for him.
Long Distance Changed Their Relationship
Distance appears to have been the most practical problem between Alix and Braxton. By the second half of 2025, Alix was spending considerable time in Los Angeles while competing on Dancing With the Stars, while Braxton’s NFL schedule limited how freely he could travel. Alix said after the breakup that they had effectively been doing long distance since around June and were seeing each other much less frequently.
The situation became especially noticeable during Dancing With the Stars. Braxton could not regularly attend Alix’s performances because the competition coincided with football season, something he publicly explained when fans criticized his absence. Meanwhile, Alix found herself enjoying Los Angeles, feeling professionally motivated there and thinking more seriously about what she wanted her own life to look like.
Neither of them needed to do something terrible for that arrangement to become unsustainable. Alix initially described the breakup as two people moving along different paths, while early reports similarly characterized the decision as mutual. Earle Meets World later fills in what those different paths actually looked like behind closed doors.

Alix Says They Were Barely Communicating
Distance might have been manageable if the relationship had remained strong in other ways, but Alix says their communication was also deteriorating. In Earle Meets World, she explains that both of them were absorbed in demanding careers and eventually were not talking nearly as much as they once had. At one point, she describes them as barely communicating.
That detail makes the breakup easier to understand than simply saying their schedules were incompatible. Their jobs were not just preventing physical visits. The lack of time together was beginning to affect the everyday connection that had sustained the relationship.
Alix had previously imagined growing old with Braxton, so the change was significant. What Netflix depicts is not someone suddenly deciding she no longer cared about her boyfriend, but someone recognizing that the relationship she loved was no longer functioning in quite the same way.

A Lack of Intimacy Became Another Problem
Earle Meets World also reveals something Alix had not emphasized when she first addressed the breakup publicly. She says there was a “lack of intimacy” toward the end of the relationship and describes that side of their connection as gradually dwindling.
That does not necessarily mean intimacy alone caused the split. In context, it appears to have been another symptom of the broader distance developing between them. Less time together, weaker communication and demanding careers were all happening simultaneously, making it increasingly difficult for them to maintain the closeness they once had.
This is also why reducing the breakup to their living in different cities misses part of what Alix reveals in the show. Geographic distance was a major factor, but by the end, the emotional and physical sides of the relationship were being affected too.

Alix Was Not Ready for Marriage
The biggest difference may have concerned where each person imagined the relationship going next. Alix says that although she once pictured a future with Braxton, realizing he could be ready for marriage in the relatively near future made her anxious. At 25, she did not feel prepared to make that commitment.
That distinction is important because Alix was not saying she never loved Braxton or could never imagine marrying him. The issue was timing. Her career was expanding rapidly, she was discovering that she liked spending more time in Los Angeles, and she wanted room to understand what she wanted independently.
Braxton apparently represented a more settled future at precisely the moment Alix felt pulled toward change. When that difference was combined with their communication problems and long-distance schedule, the relationship became harder to maintain.
Was the Breakup Mutual?
The initial breakup reports described the decision as mutual, and Alix publicly defended Braxton rather than suggesting he had wronged her. She specifically pushed back against people attacking him after the split and explained that neither of them had done something terrible to cause the relationship to collapse.
Earle Meets World, however, shows that “mutual” does not mean emotionally simple. The first episode follows Alix returning to Braxton’s Miami home with Sally Carden to collect the last of her belongings. Months later, she is still questioning whether ending the relationship was the right decision.
That lingering uncertainty becomes one of the season’s recurring threads. The breakup may have been agreed upon, but Alix clearly did not move on from three years of shared history without second thoughts.
Alix Still Wonders If Breaking Up Was a Mistake
By the Earle Meets World finale, the breakup story has moved well beyond explaining why Alix and Braxton separated. More than four months later, Alix admits she is still wondering whether she made a mistake. She and Braxton eventually have a lengthy private conversation that Alix describes as far more honest and mature than anything they could have managed immediately after the split.
Alix ultimately calls Braxton and directly asks whether his position on never getting back together with an ex has changed. Netflix deliberately cuts away before viewers receive a real answer, with Braxton responding only briefly before the credits roll. Alix has since confirmed that they remain on good terms but has not announced that they are back together.
That finale reinforces what really went wrong between them. Alix and Braxton did not stop caring about one another. Their relationship reached a point where distance, fading communication, diminished intimacy and different expectations about the future outweighed the connection that had kept them together. Whether those problems were permanent is a different question, and one Earle Meets World intentionally leaves unresolved.
