Tina and Liz

Tina and Liz Liao finally accomplished a goal they had chased for years when they won The Amazing Race Canada Season 12. The twin sisters had wanted to compete on the show since they were young, even applying for the Canadian edition’s first season before eventually getting their chance more than a decade later. Their victory has not led them to abandon the lives they had before reality television, however. Tina continues her career in law, while Liz remains committed to medicine, and the sisters are now figuring out how to fit a sizable collection of travel prizes into already busy professional schedules.

The race also gave them something considerably more personal than prize money. After spending their childhood being treated almost as a unit before deliberately attending different universities, Tina and Liz entered the competition as adults with separate careers and lives. Winning together became another chapter in a relationship that had already survived years of being both extremely close and fiercely competitive.

Tina Liao Continues Her Career as a Corporate Lawyer

Christina “Tina” Liao is a corporate lawyer who was listed as living in Oakville, Ontario, when Season 12’s cast was announced. The 32-year-old entered The Amazing Race Canada with a career that required the same type of preparation and attention to detail that eventually became one of the sisters’ biggest advantages on the race. Tina and Liz repeatedly approached unfamiliar tasks by relying on preparation rather than assuming they needed previous experience with the exact skill.

Winning the show does not appear to have changed Tina’s professional direction. In the official post-finale interview, Bell Media still identifies her as a corporate lawyer, while Tina talks more about fitting their prizes around their existing lives than about making a major career change. She and Liz also credited their professional backgrounds for helping them remain composed when they had to absorb information quickly or perform under pressure.

Tina’s preparation for the race went well beyond physical training. The sisters created a large spreadsheet, researched previous seasons, watched instructional videos and practiced skills they believed could appear during filming. Their parents had raised them with the belief that there was no such thing as being too prepared, an approach that ultimately became central to the way they raced.

Liz Liao Returned to Her Work as a Doctor

Elizabeth “Liz” Liao is a family physician and obstetrician based in Waterdown, Ontario. Away from television, she runs a busy medical career that includes a family practice of roughly 1,300 patients, where she works four days a week, along with obstetrics and newborn care at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and Brampton Civic Hospital.

Liz had to make significant arrangements simply to participate in The Amazing Race Canada. Because she could not publicly explain why she needed time away, colleagues helped cover and rearrange hospital shifts while she also secured a last-minute locum for her practice. After filming, she spoke about the experience as proof that demanding careers do not have to prevent people from pursuing important goals outside work.

Her medical training also became unexpectedly useful during the competition. Liz compared learning unfamiliar information on the race with memorizing prescription drug names and medical terminology during her education. That background was particularly valuable during memory-heavy challenges, including the Season 12 finale at Heritage Park.

Where Do Tina and Liz Live Now?

The sisters are both still associated with their home region in Ontario, although they do not live together. Tina was listed as living in Oakville, while Liz was listed in Waterdown when CTV announced the Season 12 cast. Both grew up in Hamilton and spent their first 17 years sharing a bedroom before attending separate universities.

That history helps explain why their partnership worked so effectively on the show. Tina and Liz know each other’s strengths extremely well, but their adult lives have also given them enough independence that neither needs the other to handle every situation. The race reunited them around something they had wanted to experience together since childhood rather than simply recreating the circumstances in which they grew up.

What Will Tina and Liz Do With Their Prize Money?

Tina and Liz won $250,000 along with OneKeyCash from Expedia for a trip around the world, in addition to several travel prizes accumulated from winning individual legs. They have not announced an elaborate spending plan for the cash. Instead, Liz said after the finale that they wanted to do something meaningful for their parents, who moved to Canada and made significant sacrifices while raising them.

One possibility they discussed was taking their parents on a trip back to China. Liz made clear that the sisters had not settled on exactly what they would do and planned to talk about it with their family first. For Tina and Liz, that idea fits naturally with how frequently they credited their parents for their work ethic, resilience and relationship with each other throughout the season.

Which Trip Will Tina and Liz Take First?

Finding time to use all their travel prizes may be a challenge of its own. Tina said after the finale that the sisters were hoping to begin with Barcelona, a trip they won during the sixth leg of the race. They already have a practical reason to make that destination work because a friend is getting married in Portugal in March, allowing them to potentially combine the Barcelona prize with the wedding trip.

The sisters won five of Season 12’s ten legs, leaving them with several travel rewards on top of their championship prize. Tina acknowledged that fitting everything into their schedules will not be easy, particularly with both sisters maintaining demanding professional careers. For now, though, travel appears to be the most immediate way their Amazing Race victory will continue beyond television.

Tina and Liz Are Finally Able to Celebrate Their Win Publicly

One unusual part of winning The Amazing Race Canada is having to return to ordinary life while keeping the result secret until the finale airs. Tina said finally being able to tell people about their victory was exciting but also bittersweet because the sisters had enjoyed watching each episode with friends and family every week. Liz added that watching the season allowed them to see other teams’ experiences and sides of Detours they never encountered while racing.

Their post-race lives therefore look surprisingly familiar despite the championship. Tina remains connected to her legal career, and Liz continues practicing medicine while emphasizing the importance of making room for interests outside work. Their immediate future includes travel, celebrating with family and deciding how to use a prize that still felt surreal when they spoke after the finale.

Tina and Liz spent years trying to get onto The Amazing Race Canada, but winning does not appear to have turned the sisters into full-time reality personalities. For now, they are returning to the careers and family life they had before the race, only with a championship, several trips and a much larger story to tell about the childhood dream they finally completed together.
