Channel 4’s ‘Taskmaster’ continues to test the patience, creativity, and common sense of its five contestants as the competition moves into the second half of season 22. Greg Davies remains an unpredictable judge, while Alex Horne introduces challenges that are becoming increasingly difficult to understand, let alone complete successfully. Episode 6, titled ‘To Void an Oblong,’ brings together several memorable tasks, including a complicated scoring machine, a worldwide shoe expedition, and an unusually generous round of points. By the end of the episode, Chloe Petts manages to secure another victory, although a surprisingly strong performance from Isy Suttie makes the final result much closer than expected.

Richard Ayoade Wins the Prize Task

The episode begins with the contestants presenting what Greg describes as a “sick bit of lit kit,” leaving considerable room for interpretation. Chloe Petts brings a Chesham United football shirt featuring a QR code that leads to a beer-and-burgers prize, while Nina Conti offers an enormous Scottish cow costume. Isy Suttie takes a literary approach by presenting Jean-Paul Sartre’s novel ‘Nausea,’ explaining that it combines sickness with literature. Matt Lucas goes in another direction by producing a literacy kit that has supposedly caught a cold after being left in the rain.

Richard Ayoade delivers the most elaborate interpretation with a loop pedal, which he sets on fire before adding another literal interpretation of the phrase. His presentation impresses Greg enough to earn five points, putting him ahead of Chloe, who receives four. Isy follows with three points, Matt receives two, and Nina finishes last with one. Richard’s early lead becomes important because his performance in the following tasks is considerably less convincing.

The Biggest Whoopsie Challenge

The first recorded challenge asks the contestants to create the biggest possible “whoopsie” within twenty minutes. Rather than defining what qualifies as an accident, Alex leaves everyone to interpret the word themselves. Matt uses green paint to create a deliberately messy situation, while Nina gathers various objects and attempts to construct an elaborate chain of mishaps. Her final act of destruction becomes more effective than the complicated setup preceding it.

Richard takes a more theatrical approach by creating the impression that something deeply unfortunate has happened inside a toilet. He invites Alex to investigate, only for the real mistake to become apparent when the door handle comes off, leaving Alex trapped. Isy transforms herself into an accident-prone clown whose birthday celebration becomes increasingly chaotic, complete with a disastrous cake incident and a confession about unpaid taxes. Chloe creates an entire sequence of embarrassing situations, beginning with accidentally telling a delivery driver that she loves him before introducing increasingly ridiculous wardrobe and social mishaps.

Greg struggles to choose between the performances because the task rewards the biggest mistake rather than the funniest presentation. Eventually, he awards five points each to Chloe, Richard, and Isy, while Matt and Nina receive four points apiece. The unusually generous scoring allows several contestants to stay competitive despite their very different approaches. Richard remains the overall leader at this stage with ten points, but the next challenge changes the standings dramatically.

The Gregulator Confuses Everyone

The episode’s most complicated challenge introduces the Gregulator, a homemade machine featuring three figures resembling Greg Davies. Contestants must earn the highest possible score by spinning the machine, which produces combinations of ducks, eggs, and pineapples. They can ask up to five yes-or-no questions, although one Greg always lies and another particularly likes eggs. Additional rules allow contestants to spend points removing unwanted items, requesting specific results, or becoming one of the Gregs themselves.

The enormous number of conditions immediately overwhelms several participants, particularly Nina, who finds the instructions difficult to process. Richard eventually decides that continuing is not worth the frustration and voluntarily stops playing after accumulating 100 points. Isy experiments with giving one of the Gregs four eggs and finishes with 200 points, while Nina’s expensive attempts to improve her chances leave her with a negative score of 300. Matt performs better with 400 points, but Chloe takes a more strategic approach and finishes with 600.

Greg reveals that Chloe’s victory is impressive without being the most efficient possible solution. According to Alex, removing all the eggs and ducks would have cost 3,000 points but guaranteed enough pineapple combinations to produce a final score of 2,000 points. None of the contestants discovers this strategy during the challenge, leaving Chloe’s 600 points as the winning total. She receives five task points, while Matt earns four, Isy three, Richard two, and Nina one.

Where Did the Shoes Go?

The next challenge takes the competition far beyond the Taskmaster house. Each contestant must send a shoe as far away from the other four shoes as possible, with its location documented on St Patrick’s Day, March 17. There is also a bonus point for the most exciting journey, encouraging everyone to think beyond a straightforward geographical competition. The results include international travel, an unusual experiment in preservation, and one contestant who barely moves his shoe at all.

Chloe sends her shoe to Australia, where it visits Sydney and even receives a performance from comedian Hannah Gadsby. Nina’s shoe makes an extraordinary journey through Tokyo, Singapore, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, eventually reaching Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro with her godson Jasper. Matt initially hopes to send his shoe into space but settles for Canada’s Yukon region when that plan proves impractical. Richard leaves his shoe at the Taskmaster house, reasoning that the other contestants may travel so far away that staying behind could actually work in his favour.

Isy chooses a completely different interpretation by placing her shoe in the petrifying well at Knaresborough. She argues that the gradual mineral coating could preserve the shoe for the distant future, effectively sending it through time rather than across the world. However, the geographical measurements favour Chloe, whose shoe accumulates a combined distance of 60,683 miles from the others. Greg docks Chloe one point because her photographic evidence does not fully satisfy the instructions, despite the tracking information confirming the location, and awards Isy the bonus point for the most exciting journey.

Ending Explained: Chloe Wins by One Point

Before the final studio challenge, Chloe leads with 18 points, although the outcome is far from decided. The contestants divide into two teams, with Nina and Isy competing against Chloe, Matt, and Richard in a rapid drawing game. Each participant must sketch a series of objects within seconds while teammates attempt to identify them. The smaller team proves unexpectedly effective, winning all three rounds and correctly identifying fourteen objects compared with seven for the opposing team.

Greg gives Nina and Isy five points each, while Chloe, Richard, and Matt receive just one apiece. This result brings Isy remarkably close to the episode victory, but Chloe’s earlier success is enough to keep her ahead. Chloe finishes with 19 points, narrowly defeating Isy, who ends on 18, while Nina and Richard share 15 points and Matt finishes with 14. Greg announces Chloe as the winner for the fourth time this season, allowing her to collect the week’s collection of prizes.

Chloe’s victory ultimately comes from her consistency rather than a dominant performance in every challenge. Her five points in both the whoopsie task and the Gregulator provide the foundation for the result, while the shoe challenge gives her enough breathing room to survive the final round. Isy’s late surge demonstrates that the competition can still shift unexpectedly, even when one contestant appears to have established control. With four episodes remaining, Chloe has another win to celebrate, but her narrow escape suggests that the remaining contestants still have plenty of opportunities to challenge her.
