Hallmark’s “Much About Love” is built around a familiar romantic pairing, but the Shakespeare festival gives the movie a much larger ensemble to play with. Ashley Williams stars as Bea Bishop, a successful television director returning to the theater world where she started, while Niall Matter plays Benny Gersten, the former romantic interest waiting in that old world. Their reunion turns into a modern spin on the argumentative romance between Beatrice and Benedick in “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Williams and Matter have already worked together for Hallmark, having previously starred opposite each other in 2020’s “Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater.” “Much About Love” also has a personal connection for Williams behind the scenes. She developed the story and co-wrote the movie with her husband, producer Neal Dodson, and also serves as an executive producer.

Ashley Williams as Bea Bishop

Ashley Williams plays Bea Bishop, the television director whose return home puts the romance into motion. Bea has moved far beyond her theater beginnings professionally, but the Shakespeare festival forces her to reconnect with the people and ambitions she once left behind. Benny’s presence makes that homecoming considerably more complicated.

Williams is particularly familiar to television viewers as Victoria from How I Met Your Mother and Dylan Messinger from Good Morning, Miami. Her film credits include Something Borrowed, while her Hallmark work has become a major part of her career. She has also expanded behind the camera as a director and producer on several television projects.

Niall Matter as Benny Gersten

Niall Matter stars as Benny Gersten, Bea’s old flame and former stage partner. Years earlier, Bea and Benny performed together in Romeo and Juliet, so their reunion at another Shakespeare production carries plenty of unfinished history. Their arguments, competition and lingering attraction provide the movie’s modern version of Shakespeare’s Beatrice and Benedick relationship.

Matter has been one of Hallmark’s regular leading men for years. His credits for the network include Stop the Wedding, the Finding Father Christmas films, the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries, Holiday Hotline and We Met in December. Outside Hallmark, he remains well known for playing Zane Donovan in Eureka and Evan Cross in Primeval: New World.

Much About Love Cast

Lindura as Hannah Michaels

Lindura plays Hannah Michaels, one of the important figures in the theater company surrounding Bea and Benny. Hannah belongs to the group helping make the Shakespeare festival feel like an actual community rather than simply a setting for the central romance. She regularly appears alongside Clay, Maggie and the other festival characters.

Lindura will be particularly recognizable to viewers of Sullivan’s Crossing, where she plays Sydney Shandon. She has also spoken about working on Much About Love and filming its Shakespeare material at Storybook Gardens in London, Ontario.

Johnathan Sousa as Clay Quinaz

Johnathan Sousa plays Clay Quinaz, another member of the festival circle. Clay appears alongside Hannah and the rest of the theater company as Bea becomes involved once again with the world she left behind. His presence helps broaden the story beyond Bea and Benny’s relationship.

Sousa brings considerable Shakespeare experience to the role. His stage work has included Othello, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Tempest and Coriolanus. His screen credits also include Reacher, Murdoch Mysteries and Frankie Drake Mysteries.

Jennifer Dale as Toni Bishop

Jennifer Dale portrays Toni Bishop, a character closely connected with Bea’s side of the story. Toni becomes part of the family and hometown environment Bea encounters when she returns for the festival. Her presence adds another personal connection between Bea’s successful present and the life she once knew.

Dale has worked in Canadian film and television for decades. Her credits include Ticket to Heaven, Of Unknown Origin, Once a Thief, Due South, Coroner and SurrealEstate. She has also appeared in several television movies and Hallmark-style productions during her long career.

Moni Ogunsuyi, Cody Ray Thompson and Paul Braunstein

Moni Ogunsuyi plays Maggie Phillips, while Cody Ray Thompson appears as Don Krohn and Paul Braunstein portrays Doug Berrie. All three belong to the wider group surrounding the Shakespeare festival and help give the production a fuller theatrical ensemble.

Ogunsuyi has appeared in projects including Simulant and Feel the Beat. Thompson has built a career across Canadian television and romantic movies, while Braunstein has worked extensively in comedy, drama and genre television. Their characters help keep the festival from feeling like little more than a backdrop for Bea and Benny.

Gabriel Burrafato and Madeline Elliott Kennedy

Gabriel Burrafato appears as Juan, while Madeline Elliott Kennedy plays Joy Tidings. Both characters complete the main credited group around Bea’s return to the festival and the preparations surrounding the Shakespeare production.

Burrafato has worked across film, television and stage, while Kennedy adds another younger presence to the ensemble. Their roles may be smaller than those of Bea and Benny, but they contribute to the sense that the festival involves an established community with its own relationships and personalities.

Much About Love ultimately depends on Ashley Williams and Niall Matter to sell its romantic conflict, but the supporting cast gives their reunion a convincing setting. Lindura, Johnathan Sousa, Jennifer Dale and the rest of the company help make Bea’s return feel connected to an entire world she once left behind. That matters because the movie is not simply about finding an old romance again. It is also about returning to the people and creative life that helped shape her in the first place.
