MasterChef has reinvented its kitchen again for Season 16, but this time the familiar competition has been given an international identity. Subtitled MasterChef: Global Gauntlet, the 2026 season turns the contest into a culinary tournament built around heritage, with home cooks bringing family recipes, regional traditions and personal interpretations of food from around the world into one kitchen.
The format takes its cue from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Twenty contestants earned white aprons during four separate audition rounds and were divided into Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Americas, with five cooks representing each region. Gordon Ramsay returns as host and judge alongside Joe Bastianich and Tiffany Derry, while the eventual winner receives the MasterChef trophy, the title and a $250,000 grand prize.
What makes the season more interesting than a simple country-versus-country competition is that the contestants are representing their cultural roots rather than necessarily the places where they currently live. The result is a cast spread across the United States whose cooking connects places as varied as India, Poland, Nigeria, Jamaica, Vietnam and Morocco.
Team Europe
Basia Newman
She represents Poland and lives in Asbury Park, New Jersey. A teacher away from the MasterChef kitchen, Newman remains in the competition as part of the Top 10.

Julia Cili
She a financial analyst from Miami, Florida, represents Italy. She has emerged as one of Team Europe’s strongest surviving competitors and also advanced into the Top 10. Three other European cooks have already left the competition.

Aghata Sunsi
She is representing Spain from Westminster, Colorado, finished in 12th place. Italian representative Nico Cosereanu, from Millburn, New Jersey, placed 17th, while Ted Pappas, an architect from Chicago, Illinois, represented Greece and finished 18th.

Team Asia-Pacific
Aishu Challa
Team Asia-Pacific still has three cooks in contention. Aishu is representing India, entered the competition from Georgetown, Massachusetts. She made an immediate impression by winning the season’s first Immunity Pin with a South Indian-inspired potato bonda and has remained among the final 10 cooks.

Foo Nguyen
He is representing Vietnam, is based in Irvine, California. The stay-at-home father has survived the increasingly demanding individual and team challenges alongside Jaime Tan.

Jaime Tan
She is the Malaysian representative who lists Los Angeles, California, as her current residence.

The original Asia-Pacific five also included,
Shompa Kabir-Furqan
She is a Bangladeshi representative from Brooklyn, New York, who finished tied for 13th-14th place. Daniel Meng, representing China from Duluth, Georgia, exited earlier in a double elimination and finished tied for 15th-16th.

Team Africa
Africa entered the Global Gauntlet with cooks representing Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, and three members of the original team are still standing.
Dave Patera
He is a food content creator living in Chicago, Illinois, represents Morocco.

Heidi Muston
She represents South Africa, comes from Plantation, Florida, while Peter Egede represents Nigeria and lists Dallas, Texas, as his current residence. All three have reached the Top 10.

Rita Igbinoba
Nigeria originally had a second representative Rita. She is a human resources professional from Brooklyn, New York. Rita was eliminated alongside Shompa during the Wheel of Fusion challenge, leaving them tied for 13th-14th place.

Nora Chakri
She is representing Morocco from Las Vegas, Nevada, became the season’s first eliminated contestant and finished 20th.

Team Americas
The Americas team began with contestants representing Brazil, Barbados, Jamaica and Mexico, but only two have made it into the Top 10.
Jake Kelley
He is a pharmacy technician representing Mexico, entered the competition from Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He is joined by Tkaiya Dryden, who represents Jamaica and lives in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Both remain in the hunt for the Season 16 title.

Maria Bourland
She is representing Brazil from Miami Beach, Florida, came agonizingly close to joining them in the Top 10. After previously becoming the first Americas cook to win an Immunity Pin, Maria was eliminated on August 5 and finished in 11th place.

The team’s earlier eliminations were Britny Underwood, representing Barbados from North Hollywood, California, who tied for 15th-16th place, and Camilo Chavez III, representing Mexico from Bastrop, Texas, who finished 19th.

Who Is Still Competing on MasterChef Season 16?
Following Maria Bourland’s elimination, the Global Gauntlet Top 10 consists of Aishu Challa, Basia Newman, Dave Patera, Foo Nguyen, Heidi Muston, Jaime Tan, Jake Kelley, Julia Cili, Peter Egede and Tkaiya Dryden.
That leaves Europe and the Americas with two contestants apiece, while Africa and Asia-Pacific each still have three. The geographical framing may have provided Season 16 with its hook, but by the closing stages, regional pride matters only as much as what each cook can put on the plate. With $250,000 and the MasterChef title waiting at the finish, Global Gauntlet has now become an individual fight for survival.
