Netflix’s ‘Love Is Blind: Netherlands’ takes the familiar dating experiment outside the Netherlands for some of its most important stages. The first season follows 30 Dutch singles as they date without seeing one another, get engaged, and then test their relationships in the real world. Production primarily used locations in Sweden, Zanzibar, and the Netherlands, giving each stage of the experiment a noticeably different setting. The series is produced by Fremantle and hosted by Nicolette van Dam and Bas Smit.

Strängnäs, Sweden

The famous ‘Love Is Blind’ pods seen during the opening episodes were filmed in Sweden rather than the Netherlands. Postlounge, which handled post-production on the Dutch edition, confirmed that production began its filming process in Sweden and that the pod phase alone generated around 220 TB of footage. Reports place the pod production facility in Strängnäs, a town located west of Stockholm that has been associated with the European editions of the franchise.

The controlled indoor setting contains the separate pods where the men and women speak through a wall, along with the lounge areas used by the two groups between dates. It is also where the engaged couples have their first face-to-face meetings after their proposals. Using an established Swedish production setup allows the Dutch version to retain the distinctive look that viewers associate with the international ‘Love Is Blind’ franchise. After completing this stage, the successful couples leave Sweden for a much warmer destination.

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The romantic getaway following the pod experiment was filmed in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Netflix itself confirms the location in its description for Episode 4, which states that the engaged couples arrive in Zanzibar to explore their relationships after meeting for the first time. The tropical island provides the beaches, swimming pools, greenery, and resort surroundings seen throughout Episodes 4 and 5.

Zanzibar marks an important change in the experiment because the couples are finally able to spend extended periods together without the walls of the pods separating them. They stay at a beachfront resort, go on dates, and meet the other engaged participants while discovering whether their emotional connections also translate into physical chemistry. The exact resort used by production has not been officially identified by Netflix or Fremantle, so claims naming a particular hotel should be treated cautiously. The island setting itself, however, is clearly established within the series.

The Netherlands

After the couples complete their trip, filming returns to the Netherlands for the part of the experiment focused on ordinary life. Netflix explains that the couples move in together, meet friends and relatives, plan their weddings, and discover whether their relationships can survive outside the controlled dating environment. Fremantle also confirms that these later stages form part of the Dutch production.

The precise apartments, wedding properties, and other Dutch filming sites have not yet been officially revealed. Since Episodes 6 through 8 are scheduled for October 7 and Episode 9 for October 14, more recognizable locations should become visible as Netflix releases the remainder of the season. For now, the confirmed filming journey takes the contestants from the pods in Sweden to the romantic retreat in Zanzibar before bringing them back home to the Netherlands for the most important stages of their relationships.
