LEGO One Piece Ending Explained: Chopper Joins the Crew Before Alabasta

LEGO One Piece spends most of its two episodes looking back at adventures Chopper never experienced, but the ending finally reaches the point where his own story becomes part of the Straw Hats’ journey. Usopp’s recap arrives at Drum Island, where Nami’s illness brings the crew into Chopper’s life and ultimately gives Luffy the doctor his ship has been missing.

The final stretch also brings the LEGO special directly to the doorstep of Alabasta. By the time Usopp finishes his story, Chopper is no longer simply hearing about Luffy’s adventures because he has become one of the people who will take part in what happens next.

Why do the Straw Hats stop at Drum Island?

The crew is already trying to take Princess Vivi toward Alabasta when Nami becomes seriously ill. Continuing without medical help becomes too dangerous, especially because Nami is also the navigator responsible for getting everyone safely through the Grand Line.

Their search for a doctor takes them to Drum Island and eventually to Dr. Kureha and Chopper. Chopper initially appears unusual to the Straw Hats, but his medical knowledge quickly becomes far more important than anyone’s first impression of him.

He understands that Nami needs treatment and becomes determined to help her recover. That gives Luffy and the others an immediate look at the compassion and medical ability that make Chopper a natural fit for the crew.

Dr. Hiriluk explains why Chopper wants to be a doctor

Chopper’s past with Dr. Hiriluk remains the emotional foundation of his story. After eating the Human-Human Fruit and becoming an outsider among other reindeer, Chopper eventually found someone who treated him as more than a strange creature.

Hiriluk gave Chopper his name, cared for him and helped him imagine a life in which he could do something meaningful for other people. His influence is the reason Chopper wants to become a doctor, even though Chopper still has much to learn about the world beyond Drum Island.

The LEGO version moves through this history quickly, but it preserves what matters most about the relationship. Chopper’s decision at the end is not simply about going on an adventure with Luffy because leaving Drum Island gives him a chance to continue the dream Hiriluk helped create.

What happens to Wapol?

The final Drum Island conflict centers on Wapol, the former ruler who abandoned the island and later returns expecting to regain control. His attitude toward the people around him contrasts sharply with Luffy’s view of his own crew.

Luffy does not see Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji or the others as followers who exist to serve him. They are his friends, and their different abilities are what allow the Straw Hats to survive increasingly difficult adventures.

Wapol’s defeat therefore does more than finish the Drum Island conflict. It clears the way for Chopper to make a decision about his own future instead of remaining trapped by the place where he spent most of his life.

Why does Chopper join the Straw Hats?

After Nami recovers, Luffy asks Chopper to become the Straw Hats’ doctor. The offer gives Chopper something he has rarely experienced before because Luffy is not bothered by his appearance or interested in treating him as an outsider.

Chopper initially struggles with the idea of leaving, but joining Luffy also means seeing the world and learning more about medicine. He can continue helping people while pursuing the dream that began with Hiriluk and continued under Dr. Kureha’s guidance.

Kureha does not turn their goodbye into an overly sentimental farewell, but Chopper discovers that she has prepared his medical supplies for the journey. Her actions make it clear that she understands Chopper has reached the point where he needs to leave Drum Island and discover what he can become elsewhere.

Chopper then joins the Going Merry as the Straw Hats’ doctor. He is no longer simply the person listening to Usopp describe the crew’s past because he is now officially part of its future.

Why are they heading to Alabasta?

Chopper’s recruitment does not change the crew’s larger mission. Vivi has revealed her true identity as Princess Nefertari Vivi of Alabasta, and the threat facing her homeland means the Straw Hats still need to help her return home.

The final moments bring the story back to Usopp and Chopper after the retelling is complete. Usopp finally admits that parts of his story may have included a little exaggeration, something Chopper has already figured out after repeatedly catching inconsistencies in his version of events.

The crew then prepares for Alabasta as their next destination comes into view. That ending positions LEGO One Piece as a bridge into the next stage of Netflix’s story, with Chopper now aboard the Going Merry and ready to experience his first major adventure as a Straw Hat.
