Kill Jackie gives Jackie Price a life built around movement. Catherine Zeta-Jones’ character has spent years presenting herself as a sophisticated international art dealer, moving between expensive apartments, galleries, hotels and coastal cities while keeping her earlier life firmly out of sight. The series needed locations capable of making that world feel genuinely international rather than like one production base repeatedly pretending to be somewhere else.

The filmmakers found most of that visual identity in northern Spain. Bilbao and the wider Bizkaia region became the production’s main home, while additional filming took place in London, Swansea and other parts of the Basque Country. Production records also listed Lisbon among the planned shooting locations. The result is a series that frequently uses real cities as themselves, although there are some clever cases where Spanish locations double for London.

Bilbao and Bizkaia Are the Heart of Kill Jackie

Bilbao is the most important filming location in Kill Jackie, and unlike many international productions that use the Basque city as a substitute for somewhere else, the series frequently allows Bilbao to play itself.

Executive producer Peter Lawson said the team was attracted to Bilbao because it felt relatively fresh on screen and offered substantial production value beyond its most famous landmark. Director Damon Thomas similarly described being surprised by the number of unusual and characterful spaces the city offered once the production looked beyond the Guggenheim Museum.

The scale of the Basque shoot was substantial. According to the Bizkaia provincial government, around 78 percent of the locations appearing in the series were in Bizkaia, with the remaining locations spread across the United Kingdom, Gipuzkoa, Navarra and other areas. The production worked across 15 municipalities in the territory.

Catherine Zeta-Jones later said the production did not simply arrive in Bilbao to collect a handful of establishing shots. The city became an important part of the series’ identity, with filming using its streets, waterfront, architecture and surrounding landscape extensively.

The Guggenheim Museum Is One of the Most Recognizable Locations

One of the easiest Kill Jackie locations to identify is the area surrounding the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

Production was photographed there in March 2025, with filming taking place around the museum and nearby parts of the Nervion riverfront. EFE reported that the production also worked around the Colegio de Ingenieros building and the Pedro Arrupe footbridge near the University of Deusto.

The Guggenheim was an obvious choice for Jackie’s world. Its metallic architecture, riverside setting and connection to international contemporary art match a character whose respectable public identity is built around selling expensive artwork.

The production also used the nearby La Salve Bridge and other riverfront locations, helping Bilbao function as more than a collection of landmarks. Wide shots of the river, bridges and modern architecture give Jackie’s Spanish life its own recognizable visual language.

Getxo, Gaztelugatxe and Other Bizkaia Locations

The production spread well beyond central Bilbao. Official regional information identifies San Juan de Gaztelugatxe as one of the recognizable locations appearing in the series. The dramatic islet and stone staircase near Bermeo provide exactly the sort of distinctive coastal backdrop that suits Kill Jackie’s movement between luxury and more isolated environments.

Getxo was another important filming area. The Punta Begoña galleries appear in the series, while the area’s cruise terminal was transformed into a fictional airport environment. The production also worked around the coast and maritime areas, using Bizkaia’s mix of industrial waterfronts and elegant seaside architecture.

Earlier reporting during production also identified the Bizkaia Bridge and Real Club Maritimo del Abra among locations scheduled for filming after the Guggenheim work.

Other Bilbao-area locations reported in the finished series include Albia Gardens, the Zubizuri bridge, and Palacio Lezama-Leguizamon. Restaurants were also used as practical locations, including La Revelia in Amorebieta and Farketa 56 and Lasai in Bilbao.

A Bilbao Building Doubles for a London Hotel

Kill Jackie does not always use a city as itself. One of the more interesting location tricks involves the Palacio de la Diputacion Foral de Bizkaia on Bilbao’s Gran Via. The ornate government building was transformed for the series into an exclusive London hotel, showing how extensively the production used Bizkaia even when the story appeared to have moved elsewhere.

A similar trick was used for Jackie’s London apartment. The production combined the exterior of a real London property with an interior filmed inside an apartment in Bilbao. Production designer Noam Piper said Jackie’s London environment was intentionally kept somewhat anonymous because viewers initially know very little about who she really is.

That combination allowed the show to preserve an authentic London exterior while taking advantage of the more flexible interior location available in Spain.

London Was Also Used for Real Exterior Filming

Although Bilbao occasionally stands in for London, Kill Jackie did carry out genuine filming in the British capital. Reported London locations include Queen Alexandra’s House, The Landmark London, and King’s College London’s Strand Campus. Additional location reporting has also identified Surrey Street among the areas used by the production.

These locations help establish the cosmopolitan world surrounding Jackie. Piper described London and Bilbao as cities with strong but very different visual identities, which allowed the production to move between them without making the series feel visually repetitive.

Rather than making every country look interchangeable, the filmmakers wanted each part of Jackie’s journey to carry its own personality. That approach becomes particularly noticeable when the series shifts from Bilbao’s contemporary architecture to London’s more formal institutions and hotels.

Swansea Brought Catherine Zeta-Jones Back Home

The Swansea filming has a more personal connection to the show’s star. Zeta-Jones was born and raised in Swansea, and Kill Jackie gave her an opportunity to film in her hometown while also playing Jackie with her natural Welsh accent. The actress said the production worked close to places connected to her childhood, including the area where she attended dancing school and neighborhoods associated with her grandmother and aunt.

Specific Swansea-area locations include North Road Service Station, Pant Street in Port Tennant, and the Monkstone Cruising and Sailing Club near Skewen.

For Zeta-Jones, returning to Swansea was more than another location shoot. She described encountering residents who remembered her and feeling a strong connection to the community while filming there. The Welsh setting also reinforces the television adaptation’s decision to make Jackie Welsh, a change from the male American protagonist of Nick Harkaway’s original novel The Price You Pay.

San Sebastian Also Appears in the Series

The production’s Basque footprint extends east from Bizkaia into Gipuzkoa. Executive producer Peter Lawson specifically mentioned San Sebastian when describing the different visual worlds used by the series. Official regional location information also confirms that part of the shoot extended outside Bizkaia into Gipuzkoa.

One reported San Sebastian sequence uses a swimming pool overlooking La Concha Bay, one of the city’s most recognizable coastal views.

San Sebastian therefore helps expand Jackie’s Spanish world beyond Bilbao without losing the northern Spanish coastal character that gives the series much of its visual appeal.

Was Kill Jackie Filmed in Lisbon?

Early industry production records listed Lisbon, Portugal, alongside Bilbao, London and Swansea as one of four planned shooting locations when filming began in March 2025.

However, the most detailed post-production location reporting focuses overwhelmingly on Bilbao and Bizkaia, followed by London, Swansea and other parts of northern Spain. Because public finished-series location reports do not document Lisbon with the same level of scene-by-scene certainty, it is safer to describe Lisbon as part of the reported production plan rather than assign specific scenes to Portugal without stronger confirmation.

This distinction matters with filming-location articles because planned production locations do not always survive into the final cut in the same way they were originally scheduled.

When Was Kill Jackie Filmed?

Principal photography began in March 2025. Contemporary industry reporting expected the production to continue for several months across Bilbao, the wider Basque region, London and Wales.

The Bilbao and Bizkaia shoot became particularly extensive. Regional officials later described approximately 20 weeks of filming across the area, while Zeta-Jones said she spent around six months repeatedly coming in and out of Bilbao during the production period.

Local production services in Bizkaia were supervised by Deabru Kalea Filmeak, with the eight-part series produced by Fremantle and Steel Springs Pictures.

That long production period helps explain why Bilbao feels unusually integrated into Kill Jackie rather than merely providing establishing shots. The filmmakers had enough time to use landmarks, residential streets, coastlines, restaurants, institutional buildings and smaller corners of the city.

Why Bilbao Works So Well for Jackie Price

Bilbao is perhaps the most appropriate location in the series because Jackie herself is built around contrast.

She belongs to a world of expensive art, international travel and carefully managed appearances, making the Guggenheim and Bilbao’s modern riverside architecture an obvious fit. At the same time, the surrounding Basque Country provides old streets, rugged coastline, grand historic buildings and isolated landscapes that allow the series to change tone without leaving the region.

Zeta-Jones said during the Bilbao premiere that the production wanted to use the city rather than treat it as a decorative backdrop. That philosophy is visible throughout the series. Bilbao is allowed to remain recognizable, while other parts of Bizkaia quietly transform into London hotels, airports and other fictional spaces when the story needs them.

For viewers wondering where Kill Jackie was filmed, the shortest answer is therefore Spain and the United Kingdom, but the more accurate answer is that Bilbao and Bizkaia form the production’s real geographic center, supported by London, Swansea, San Sebastian and several other European locations.
