Season 25 of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” is built around a generation of chefs who have grown up watching Gordon Ramsay’s competition, but knowing the show and surviving its kitchen are two very different things. Episode 2, titled “A Tale of Two Kitchens,” brings that distinction into focus as the contestants finally move beyond signature dishes and into the rhythms of the Hell’s Kitchen menu. The night also resolves the premiere’s Valentin and Sandra cliffhanger, awards the season’s Punishment Passes, and delivers the first dinner service. By the end, one difficult station proves costly for the Red Team and sends the season’s first chef home.

Ramsay’s Cliffhanger Gives Valentin and Sandra an Early Warning

The premiere ended with Ramsay unexpectedly calling Valentin Royo and Sandra LeClerc forward after their signature dishes received the night’s lowest scores. Instead of eliminating either contestant, Ramsay reveals a very different reason for singling them out. He personally hands Valentin and Sandra copies of the Hell’s Kitchen menu before everyone else, telling them that he wants the books treated like their “Bibles” and expects them to use the extra time wisely.

The other contestants soon receive their own menu books, and the dorm immediately reveals a difference in approach. Haley notices that several members of the Blue Team are already studying while the women appear far more relaxed. The next morning, sous chefs James and Michelle begin teaching their respective teams some of the restaurant’s central dishes, including lobster risotto, scallops, carbonara, lamb and Beef Wellington. The training may look instructional, but Ramsay is already preparing to find out who can reproduce those techniques when speed is added to the equation.

Mya Wins the Red Team’s Punishment Pass

Ramsay keeps the Red Team in the kitchen and announces a three-stage individual challenge. Six chefs must first earn approval for their scallops, three of those chefs will move forward after producing an acceptable carbonara, and the last stage requires lobster and risotto. The first person to complete the entire sequence successfully wins a Punishment Pass, which can later be used to escape a team punishment and send another contestant in their place.

Mya Gonsalves gets through the scallop round first, while Nadia Phillips, Georgiana Pahon, Sandra, Joy Shi and Jeyda Brooks eventually join her. The carbonara round proves more complicated. Sandra cannot taste her own dish because of an egg allergy and relies on Joy to help evaluate it, while Joy herself struggles when her noodles begin to curdle. Nadia is the first to advance, Georgiana follows, and Mya has to correct her dish after Ramsay points out an issue with the rendered fat.

Mya recovers at exactly the right moment. She claims the final place in the lobster and risotto round before beating Nadia and Georgiana to the finish. Her victory gives her the Red Team’s Punishment Pass and reinforces the confidence she showed after earning a perfect score for her ribeye in the season premiere.

Mike Survives a Messy Final Round to Take the Blue Pass

The Blue Team faces the same challenge, and the opening scallop round advances Gabe Cerease, Jonny G Gudino, Valentin, Michael “Mike” Catuosco, Miles Anderson and Miguel Soliz. When the field is reduced through carbonara, Miles secures the first final-round spot, Mike follows, and Jonny G takes the third after Miguel’s first attempt is sent back for being undercooked.

The lobster and risotto stage becomes much less straightforward than Ramsay probably intended. Jonny G, Mike and Miles all reach the pass with dishes that still contain undercooked lobster, meaning nobody wins on the first attempt. They are sent back to fix their proteins, turning the final stage into a frantic second race.

Mike ultimately benefits from having another lobster ready to cook and reaches Ramsay first with an acceptable plate. He becomes the Blue Team’s Punishment Pass holder, joining Mya as one of the two contestants with a potentially valuable advantage later in the season. More importantly, the challenge has forced everyone to practice several dishes that they are about to prepare under much less forgiving circumstances.

The First Dinner Service Quickly Tests Both Kitchens

Hell’s Kitchen opens for its first dinner service of the season with a dining room filled with guests and influencers. Nadia and Georgiana are assigned tableside duties for the Red Team, while Aiden Ricklef and Gabe handle the same responsibility for the Blue Team. Once the first tickets begin arriving, however, the pressure shifts almost immediately toward the contestants working inside the kitchens.

Jeyda and Mya handle appetizers for the Red Team, but an early communication mistake causes Jeyda to send a salmon salad toward the pass before the table’s appetizers are ready. Ramsay stops the dish and makes it clear that individual cooking means little if the team is not working through the ticket in the correct order. Jeyda later struggles while separating an egg for tartare, and Ramsay repeatedly pushes the Red Team to communicate rather than allowing one station to fall behind in silence.

The Blue Team is not flawless either. Miles has trouble with flatbread dough and sends forward a result that Ramsay rejects, forcing him to begin again. Later, the Blue Kitchen mishears a ticket and starts preparing the wrong order entirely. Ramsay gathers the chefs at the pass and makes them repeat what should actually be cooking, but the group manages to recover rather than allowing the confusion to derail its entire service.

Reni’s Salmon Leaves the Red Team Waiting

While several chefs stumble, Diego Sanchez produces one of the Red Team’s more encouraging moments when Ramsay approves of his Wellington. The larger problem develops on the fish station, where Serenity “Reni” Lee is responsible for salmon. Her first attempt comes out with the skin taken too far, forcing her to start two more portions while the rest of the table’s food moves closer to being ready.

The delay becomes increasingly damaging because the other stations cannot complete the table without her salmon. Joy grows frustrated by what she sees as a lack of urgency, while Ramsay repeatedly asks the team to communicate and coordinate their timing. When Reni finally brings another attempt forward, Ramsay finds that it needs more cooking and sends it back.

A further attempt produces the same basic problem. With the dining room waiting and the Red Team unable to move the ticket, Ramsay decides he has seen enough. He gathers the women away from the line, questions their drive, and sends the entire Red Team back to the dorm to nominate two chefs for elimination.

That decision is significant because the Blue Team is allowed to continue. Despite its own early communication problems, the men recover sufficiently to reach desserts and finish their service, while the Red Team’s inability to complete the salmon order brings its night to an early end.

Why Does Gordon Ramsay Eliminate Reni?

The Red Team’s nomination discussion produces little disagreement. Reni is selected because repeated problems with the salmon prevented the kitchen from completing its orders, while Jeyda is nominated for her mistakes on appetizers and the nervousness that affected her performance. Haley presents both names when the teams return downstairs.

Ramsay first questions Jeyda about sending the salmon salad before the rest of the table was ready and about her difficulties with the egg. Jeyda accepts that communication was part of the problem and argues that she should have asked her teammates for assistance earlier. When given the chance to explain why she belongs in the competition, she says she still has more to prove and believes she can recover from one poor service.

Reni also argues that communication contributed to what happened on her station and insists that she can bounce back. The difficulty for her is that Ramsay gave her multiple opportunities to correct the salmon during the same service, and the station never fully recovered. Unlike an isolated early mistake, her problems eventually prevented the Red Kitchen from progressing at all.

Ramsay therefore asks Reni to remove her jacket, making her the first contestant eliminated from Season 25. Reni leaves disappointed and says she believes Jeyda should have gone instead, particularly because she wanted another opportunity to show Ramsay what she could do. Jeyda survives, but the decision gives her little room for another service defined by hesitation or poor communication.

Episode 2 ultimately provides the young cast with its first real lesson in what separates Hell’s Kitchen from an ordinary cooking challenge. Mya and Mike prove they can execute Ramsay’s menu under individual pressure, while the dinner service shows that strong technical ability can quickly become irrelevant when timing and teamwork collapse. With Reni gone and Jeyda already having faced elimination once, Season 25 enters its next service with the Red Team needing a much cleaner response.
