There is no official winner at the end of Game Changer Season 8 Episode 8.
That is not an accidental omission. “What’s the Catch?” abandons the show’s usual points competition and instead asks Kurt Maloney, Jacob Wysocki and Kimia Behpoornia to accumulate prizes while attaching increasingly destructive conditions to them.
By the finale, all three contestants have technically won. They have also managed to turn theme park passes, massages, professional photos, shopping money and karaoke into experiences that range from inconvenient to completely absurd. Then one final secret catch makes sure nobody escapes cleanly.
Who Wins Game Changer’s “What’s the Catch?”
Sam Reich never declares Kurt, Jacob or Kimia the winner.
There are no final scores to compare because the episode’s actual objective is different. The players spend most of the game deciding where catches should go, stealing prizes, protecting rewards with locks and, frequently, choosing whatever combination will produce the funniest outcome. The results are therefore more important than a scoreboard.

Jacob gets perhaps the largest collection of catastrophes. His theme park fast pass becomes a requirement to visit Universal Studios Hollywood every day for seven days while spending only two minutes there each time.
His couple’s massage becomes a massage involving an inflatable T-Rex costume and Grant O’Brien.
And his home deep clean becomes a private improv show in Topeka, Kansas, with Sam driving him there. Jacob receives prizes worth real money. He just has to suffer considerably to redeem them.
What Happens to Kimia’s Prizes?
Kimia’s original luxury tasting menu comes with one brutal condition: it begins at 4 A.M.
The episode later shows her actually sitting through the elaborate meal at that hour. That is important because “What’s the Catch?” does not merely imagine these combinations. Much of the second half is devoted to showing that the production followed through on them.
Her $1,000 shopping spree gets hit with the “Patriot themed” modifier. Instead of spending the money anywhere she wants, she is dropped into a store packed with Americana merchandise and given an extremely limited opportunity to choose what she wants. Her acting reel undergoes the funniest transformation of all.
Jacob attaches “as a gift for your dad” to it, meaning the 2026 professional reel goes to Kimia’s father, Jay Behpoornia.
Jay proceeds to perform multiple wildly different dramatic roles for his reel. The punishment essentially backfires because Jay throws himself into the production so completely that his reel becomes one of the episode’s standout sequences.
Why Do Sam and Jacob Go to Topeka, Kansas?
Jacob’s Topeka trip is the end result of several catches colliding. He originally wins a home deep clean. Later, that prize acquires a condition turning “home deep clean” into the suggestion for a private improv performance.
Then Kurt draws another catch: the experience has to happen “in Topeka, Kansas.” Another prize also establishes that Sam will drive Jacob around. The show combines everything.
Sam and Jacob make the trip to Topeka and attend a performance by Your Little Dog 2, whose improvisers use “home deep clean” as their prompt.
The sequence also turns the joke back on Sam. He has spent the entire episode destroying everyone else’s prizes, only to become personally responsible for traveling to Kansas with Jacob to complete one of them.

Who Is the Fisherman Staring at Kurt?
The Fisherman is played by Josh Ruben. He appears throughout the fishing portion of the episode before Kimia finally attaches the condition “while the fisherman stares silently at you” to Kurt’s professional photo session. The show then follows through.
Kurt tries to pose for legitimate photographs as the Fisherman silently watches him from increasingly uncomfortable distances. Eventually the Fisherman becomes practically part of the shoot.
It is another example of how the episode interprets its catches as literally as possible. Kurt still receives the professional photography he was promised. Nobody ever said the photographer’s studio would be free of a deeply unsettling fisherman.

What Is the Secret Catch at the End?
Just when Kurt appears to have protected one prize, Sam reveals that the game has another trick left. Kurt has locked his $400 karaoke party, seemingly protecting it from the ordinary swapping and catch mechanics. But Jeremy Culhane has secretly been carrying a final blank modifier. His catch is: “…but it’s only ‘Iris’ by Goo Goo Dolls.”
The karaoke party therefore survives. Kurt can still have karaoke. He simply cannot choose another song.
The distinction is what makes the joke work. Jeremy does not take Kurt’s party away or replace it with something terrible. He reduces the enormous catalog of karaoke music to a single track. The episode immediately demonstrates what that means.
Performer after performer sings “Iris.” The Fisherman gets involved. Other cast members appear. Eventually Kurt, Jacob and Kimia are all together singing it as the episode reaches its conclusion.
Why Could Jeremy Change Kurt’s Locked Prize?
Kurt’s lock protects the karaoke prize during the normal game.
Jeremy’s modifier is presented separately as a secret final catch after Sam has already suggested the game is finished. In other words, it functions as one last exception rather than another ordinary swap.
That is also why Sam waits until the very end to reveal it.
Had Jeremy’s catch appeared earlier, Kurt and the others could have anticipated another round of sabotage. Instead, the show allows Kurt to believe he successfully protected his relatively harmless karaoke party before taking away the one thing anyone expects from karaoke: choosing different songs.
What Does the Ending of “What’s the Catch?” Mean?
The finale completes the episode’s running argument that value and enjoyment are not the same thing.
On paper, the contestants receive thousands of dollars worth of experiences. A tasting menu is good. A shopping spree is good. Universal Studios is good. A massage is good.
Add four words of fine print, however, and almost any prize can become a punishment.
The contestants eventually understand this and begin playing less for financial value than for comedy. Sending Sam and Jacob to Topeka is funnier than protecting an expensive reward. Giving Kimia’s acting reel to her father produces something far more memorable than a conventional reel. Making Kurt sing one song indefinitely becomes a better television ending than letting him simply enjoy karaoke. So nobody wins in the traditional Game Changer sense, but nobody exactly loses either.
Kurt, Jacob and Kimia end the episode together, laughing and singing after surviving an entire game designed around making good things worse.
The final catch is therefore more than one last joke. It completes the premise: until the credits arrive, every prize on Game Changer still has room for one more catch.
