Crystal Lake Returns to Friday the 13th Country: The New Jersey Locations Behind the Prequel
Blairstown's Main Street became a period town again, while the Peacock prequel also filmed at a New Jersey school and across nearby communities.

Peacock’s Crystal Lake returns to the world of Friday the 13th long before the events that made Camp Crystal Lake one of horror’s most recognizable settings. Created by Brad Caleb Kane, the A24 series stars Linda Cardellini, William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom, and expands the mythology surrounding the Voorhees family. The series premieres on Peacock in the United States on October 15, 2026.
The production also reconnects the franchise with New Jersey, where the original 1980 film established much of its visual identity. Blairstown once again became part of that history when Crystal Lake filmed along Main Street in August 2025, transforming the familiar downtown area for the prequel series. Filming extended beyond Warren County as well, with several other New Jersey communities contributing locations to the production.
For viewers interested in following the real-world trail behind Crystal Lake, Blairstown is the most natural place to begin. Its Main Street offers the clearest connection between the new series and the franchise’s past, while the wider New Jersey shoot reveals how Peacock and A24 expanded that familiar setting for a new chapter.

Blairstown’s Main Street became the fictional town
News 12 visited the shoot on August 11, 2025. Its report describes altered storefronts and street signs, classic vehicles and people in period clothing. Onlookers watched repeated takes while the familiar Main Street acquired a different identity. A local business representative compared its appearance to the 1960s and 1970s; that description of the set should not be treated as a precise date for every episode.
Blairstown is in Warren County, in northwestern New Jersey. It is the real municipality; Crystal Lake is the fictional name associated with the story. Looking for the latter on a map can send visitors toward unrelated lakes and towns.

The closure notice reveals the scale of the shoot
WRNJ reported the township’s advance arrangements: Main Street was scheduled to close to vehicles and pedestrians from about 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 11. Bridge Street would have intermittent closures, while Main Street parking restrictions began the previous night. These were production-day arrangements in 2025, not restrictions still in force for visitors.
The notice used Mama’s Boy, the working title attached to Crystal Lake. That explains why local accounts and filming notices may use a name that never appears in the streaming title. The same notice described an eight-episode production and a New Jersey shoot that had begun in June.
For a present-day walk, Main Street and its junction with Bridge Street are useful anchors. Compare the permanent streets and facades with the series. The town has resumed its own life.
Mother Teresa School and the wider New Jersey map
Another reported location is Mother Teresa School in Atlantic Highlands. Patch says filming took place there in late June 2025, before the later Blairstown street work. The report also names Hope Township, Clifton and Hawthorne among communities involved in the production.
These are separate stops around the state, not adjoining sections of the same village. A location list can make them seem closer than they are because the finished series connects them through editing. For trip planning, choose one area and build a day around it rather than trying to copy the order in which places appear on screen.
The reporting does not identify the school’s character name or the scenes made there. It would be premature to label a classroom as Jason’s or assign the building a specific plot event. The confirmed connection is the production’s use of the school property, which does not establish a public visitor program.
The diner is part of the original film’s history
The Blairstown Diner became a stop for people watching the new street shoot, according to News 12. Its longstanding Friday the 13th association comes from its appearance in the original movie. The report does not confirm new Crystal Lake scenes inside it.
There is another way to enjoy the older film locally: Roy’s Hall, at 30 Main Street, runs a cinema program alongside live performances. Its current calendar includes a screening of the original Friday the 13th on November 13, 2026. Check the venue’s schedule and ticket availability before traveling. This is a screening recommendation, not a claim that the prequel used the auditorium.
Is the original Camp Crystal Lake a real place?
Yes. Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco was the principal camp location for the original 1980 film. Crystal Lake Tours, the operator of official location visits, explains that the camp has a Blairstown mailing address but lies outside the township, in Hardwick and Stillwater. That postal detail accounts for much of the confusion about its location.
WRNJ’s advance production report mentioned the camp as an expected shooting stop for the prequel. An announced plan is different from an account of completed filming, so this guide does not assign new-series scenes to its cabins or lake. The camp’s established role in the original film stands on its own.
The operator says the property has been a Scout camp since 1927. Fan visits are limited to official events. Walking routes can extend to about a mile, and visitors should choose suitable footwear and weather clothing. Tour length and access depend on the event purchased.

Before planning a franchise day trip
Start with Blairstown’s public streets if you want a flexible outing. A camp visit needs advance arrangements: the operator warns that cellphone reception and return rides can be difficult, and there are no nearby bus or train stops serving the camp. Arrange transport before attending an official event.
