Who Sent Joy the Flowers on Below Deck Med? Why Luke Brumer’s Gift Upset Gen

Chef Joy Lefaucheur gets an unexpected delivery at the end of Below Deck Mediterranean Season 11 Episode 14, but there is not much mystery about the identity of her secret admirer. The flowers are from former deckhand Luke Brumer, who clearly has not given up on Joy despite leaving the Akira One several episodes earlier.

The surprise becomes much more awkward because Gen Lillie is the crew member holding the bouquet when Joy realizes who sent it. Considering Gen’s own complicated history with Luke, her reaction is immediate.

Did Luke Brumer Send Joy the Flowers?

Yes. Luke Brumer is the person who sends the flowers to Joy. The card is unsigned, but it tells Joy that their paths may cross again and addresses her as “ma reine.” Luke had already been using the same nickname while texting Joy, making his identity easy for her to recognize.

Luke had also told Joy to expect a surprise, so she quickly connects the delivery to him. Bravo had actually teased the moment before Episode 14 aired, revealing in its Season 11 midseason preview that Luke would continue pursuing Joy even after his departure from the yacht.

What Happened Between Luke and Joy Before He Left?

Luke’s interest in Joy goes back much further than the flower delivery. Earlier in Season 11, he became caught between Joy and Gen. Although Luke had developed feelings for Joy, he also became physically involved with Gen. That decision effectively destroyed his chances with the chef.

When Luke eventually admitted what had happened with Gen, Joy made it clear that she was no longer interested in pursuing anything romantic with him.

Their situation was still unresolved when Luke’s problems on deck reached breaking point. After increasing tension with Nathan Gallagher and concerns over his behavior, Luke decided to quit the yacht.

Even while leaving, Luke admitted that walking away from Joy was one of the hardest parts of his decision. He hoped they would see each other again. Episode 14 proves that he meant it.

Why Did Gen Get So Upset About Luke Sending Joy Flowers?

Gen’s reaction makes more sense when everything else happening to her in Episode 14 is considered. She and Luke previously had their own romantic and physical connection. Although that relationship was already over before Luke left the yacht, Gen was also aware that Luke ultimately wanted Joy. Seeing him continue to pursue Joy therefore brings the old triangle directly back in front of her.

The way it happens makes the moment even more uncomfortable. Gen is literally carrying Luke’s flowers when the crew realizes they are intended for Joy. There is also much more going wrong in Gen’s life by this point in the episode.

Her friendship with Kat has just fallen apart after Kat confronts her for flirting with Cooper. Gen feels increasingly excluded as Kat and Kayley grow closer, while the other stews are becoming frustrated with her work because of her wrist problem. The flowers arrive when she is already feeling rejected and isolated.

That does not mean Gen explicitly says she wants Luke back. Episode 14 never gives such a straightforward explanation. Her reaction instead appears to come from a combination of unresolved feelings, embarrassment and the sense that nearly every relationship around her is moving in a direction that leaves her on the outside.

Are Luke Brumer and Chef Joy Together Now?

Episode 14 does not confirm that Luke and Joy are a couple. Joy knows Luke is still interested in her, and his texts and flowers make his intentions obvious. However, accepting a flower delivery is not the same as agreeing to restart a romantic relationship.

That distinction matters because Joy had previously rejected Luke after learning about his involvement with Gen. Luke appears determined to earn another chance, but viewers will have to see whether Joy actually changes her mind.

Is Luke Brumer Returning to Below Deck Med?

The flowers also contain an interesting hint. Luke’s message suggests that their paths could cross sooner than Joy expects. Bravo’s midseason trailer has already shown Luke appearing again in interview footage while discussing the surprise, so his storyline is clearly not completely finished.

However, there is currently no confirmation in Episode 14 that Luke is returning to the Akira One as a deckhand. Massi Scarcia has already taken the open position on Nathan’s exterior team. For now, Luke’s connection to Season 11 continues through Joy rather than through his old job.

The bigger immediate consequence of his surprise may actually be what it does to Gen. Episode 14 ends with her walking away from the flower delivery and declaring that she wants to go home, setting up another potentially difficult charter for Aesha Scott’s increasingly fractured interior team.
