For a few minutes in Reacher Season 4 Episode 5, Tamara Green gets to believe one of the season’s biggest threats may have solved itself. Cornered on the bridge with police closing in, Lila and Amisha jump into the river rather than surrender. They do not die. Episode 5 later confirms that both women survive the fall, escape the area and continue their hunt for Anna Merrick’s flash drive. By the final scene, there is no ambiguity left at all because Lila and Amisha are back in front of Reacher with Jacob as their hostage.

Why do Lila and Amisha jump from the bridge?

They jump because the alternative is capture. After Jacob recovers Anna’s drive and phone, Lila and Amisha intercept him and Tamara Green, setting off an armed pursuit that eventually strands the women on the bridge. Police are approaching, and there is no safe route left by road.

Surrender would place them in custody just as their true role in the conspiracy has become clear. Episode 4 had already exposed them as highly capable killers rather than the vulnerable mother and daughter Reacher thought he was helping.

So the bridge becomes an escape route of last resort. They go over the edge because the river still gives them a chance that police custody does not.

Does the episode initially make them look dead?

Yes. The sequence is staged so viewers can briefly wonder whether the fall has removed Lila and Amisha from the story. Green is ready to hope that the plunge killed them, especially after everything the women have already done.

Jacob is more skeptical. His suspicion is sensible because neither body is recovered, and the episode does not linger on the river long enough to establish a death scene.

Reacher has used apparent deaths and uncertain disappearances before, but Episode 5 does not even wait until another week to settle this one. Lila and Amisha survive.

How do we know they are still alive?

The first confirmation comes through information reaching Jacob’s group after the bridge confrontation. Authorities learn that the women survived and attacked a local person while escaping, taking a vehicle so they could continue moving.

That immediately changes the meaning of their jump. It was not a desperate suicide attempt and it did not leave them critically incapacitated. They recover quickly enough to remain active participants in the chase for Anna’s evidence. The episode gives even stronger proof later.

When Reacher and Green reach the abandoned restaurant where Ben was tortured, Lila and Amisha are there. They have Jacob with them and are once again demanding the flash drive. There is no survival mystery left by the credits.

Why doesn’t the bridge fall stop them?

“Bridge” does not provide a medical explanation for exactly how both women survive the plunge without major injuries. The important fact is simply that the series establishes their survival on screen. Trying to calculate the exact height, water depth or likely physical injuries would go beyond what the episode asks viewers to accept.

What matters dramatically is that Lila and Amisha have repeatedly been underestimated. Their introduction encouraged Reacher to see them as people who needed his protection, while Episode 4 revealed they could eliminate armed attackers with karambits.

Episode 5 continues that reversal. Even being trapped between Jacob and arriving police does not end their operation.

The jump becomes another example of why Reacher cannot treat them like ordinary suspects.

Where do Lila and Amisha go after surviving?

Their priority remains the same: recover Anna’s flash drive. The women do not disappear to regroup for several episodes or attempt to leave the country. They remain close enough to the investigation to strike again almost immediately.

That persistence reveals how important the drive is to them. They know Reacher has now understood that Lila’s previous story was false, and they know law enforcement is actively searching for them. Continuing the pursuit means accepting an enormous increase in risk.

Whatever Anna hid, Lila clearly believes allowing Reacher to understand it would be worse.

That is why their next move is not simply another attack. They take something Reacher cannot ignore.

Why do they take Jacob hostage?

Jacob gives Lila leverage because he is both personally important to the investigation and connected directly to Anna. Instead of trying to overpower Reacher again without any advantage, Lila arrives at the abandoned restaurant with Jacob under her control and uses him to demand the flash drive.

For Jacob, the confrontation is especially cruel. He has spent the episode trying to recover his sister’s evidence and finally has a chance to act against the people responsible for the destruction of his family.

By the ending, that opportunity has been reversed. Lila has turned Anna’s brother into the bargaining chip she hopes will finally deliver Anna’s evidence.

The bridge therefore does not end Lila and Amisha’s story. It simply marks the moment when they stop running from Reacher and begin forcing him to negotiate on their terms.
