Hallmark’s Absolutely Devoted to You gets its hook from a wonderfully specific bit of 1990s nostalgia: what happens when a television producer tries to drag a long-retired boy band back into the spotlight? Kimberley Sustad leads the romantic comedy as Kaitlin Thompson, a morning-show producer whose hopes for an executive producer promotion depend on reuniting Absolutely Yeah! Jesse Metcalfe plays Derrick Dane, the group’s former heartthrob and the only member who wants nothing to do with a comeback. Around them is a surprisingly large ensemble that includes the rest of the fictional band, Kaitlin’s television colleagues and the teenagers who have become part of Derrick’s quieter post-fame life.
The movie premiered on Hallmark Channel on August 8, 2026, as part of the network’s 25th birthday programming and became available on Hallmark+ the following day. Sustad and Metcalfe are the official Hallmark-billed leads, but performers including Meghan Heffern, Lynda Boyd, Drew Henderson and Graham Verchere give the movie much of its supporting personality.
Kimberley Sustad as Kaitlin Thompson
Kimberley Sustad plays Kaitlin Thompson, the ambitious producer at Merrie & Mason in the Morning who sees an Absolutely Yeah! reunion as her best chance of landing the show’s executive producer job. When the Summer Beach Bash suddenly needs a major musical attraction, Kaitlin promises she can bring the entire group back together, including its elusive former lead singer. That last part is considerably harder than she expected because Derrick has deliberately removed himself from celebrity life. Kaitlin’s professional persistence consequently drives both the reunion storyline and her eventual romance with Derrick.

Sustad is one of Hallmark’s most familiar performers and has worked with the network for more than a decade. Her Hallmark credits include Christmas by Starlight, Wedding Every Weekend, The Nine Lives of Christmas, The Nine Kittens of Christmas and Lights, Camera, Christmas!. Outside the network, she has appeared in Travelers, Supernatural, Continuum, Chesapeake Shores and The Twilight Zone. Her comfort with Hallmark’s particular comic-romantic rhythm makes Kaitlin’s combination of relentless competence and occasional panic feel fairly natural.
Jesse Metcalfe as Derrick Dane
Jesse Metcalfe stars as Derrick Dane, the former lead singer of Absolutely Yeah! who has built an intentionally ordinary life after walking away from the band. Derrick now works as an activities director at a community center on Long Island, where his attention is focused on mentoring young musicians rather than reliving his pop-star years. Kaitlin initially treats his refusal to reunite as another obstacle she can solve, but Derrick’s resistance is not a publicity tactic. He genuinely values the privacy and sense of purpose he found after leaving fame behind.
Metcalfe became widely known as John Rowland on Desperate Housewives and later played Christopher Ewing on TNT’s Dallas. Movie audiences may immediately recognize him as the title character in John Tucker Must Die, while Hallmark viewers know him from A Country Wedding, Christmas Next Door, Christmas Under the Stars, Chesapeake Shores and the Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries franchise. Music is not entirely foreign territory for the actor either. Hallmark’s biography notes that Metcalfe plays guitar and piano, and he previously contributed original music during his time on Chesapeake Shores.

Who Plays the Members of Absolutely Yeah?
Drew Henderson, Doron Bell and Matheus Severo play the other former members of Absolutely Yeah!, the fictional 1990s boy band at the center of Kaitlin’s reunion plan. Henderson portrays TJ, Bell plays Chip, and Severo appears as Juan Carlos. Unlike Derrick, the three men are considerably easier for Kaitlin to persuade, which means the reunion is essentially complete before she has secured the one member everybody actually wants to see. Their willingness to return also makes Derrick’s continued refusal stand out rather than allowing the band’s breakup to become a generic story about four estranged musicians.
Juan Carlos actually helps Kaitlin locate Derrick after she realizes he knows where his former bandmate has disappeared to. TJ and Chip later join the effort, bringing Absolutely Yeah! back into Derrick’s carefully separated present-day life. The movie does not develop all three former members equally, but collectively they provide the 1990s nostalgia promised by the premise. There is also a small secondary romantic thread involving TJ and Sara, although it remains far less developed than Kaitlin and Derrick’s relationship.
Meghan Heffern as Sara
Meghan Heffern plays Sara, Kaitlin’s coworker and closest ally at the morning show. She is there when the Absolutely Yeah! idea begins taking shape and becomes the person Kaitlin can confide in as a fairly ridiculous television booking gradually turns into something much more personal. Sara also meets TJ while Kaitlin is rounding up the former band members, giving the movie a quieter second romantic possibility. The subplot stays deliberately secondary, so Sara’s larger function is keeping Kaitlin connected to the television world whenever she becomes increasingly involved with Derrick’s community-center life.

Heffern has worked steadily across Canadian and American television and film, with credits including The Fog, Chloe and What If. Hallmark viewers may also recognize her from earlier romantic television productions. Here, she provides Kaitlin with a friend who understands exactly how much professional risk is attached to promising a reunion before Derrick has actually agreed to participate.
Lynda Boyd as Lucille
Lynda Boyd plays Lucille, the community-center coordinator who works alongside Derrick and understands why he has no interest in returning to his old life. Lucille initially makes Kaitlin’s attempt to reach him considerably more difficult, but her protectiveness comes from knowing how important Derrick’s current life has become to him. She also becomes one of the movie’s warmer supporting figures once Kaitlin begins spending more time at the center. Boyd gets relatively limited screen time, yet both contemporary reviews singled Lucille out as one of the ensemble’s livelier characters.
Boyd has an extensive screen career and is especially recognizable as Rose Doyle from the Canadian series Republic of Doyle. She has accumulated well over a hundred acting credits across television, movies and voice work, making her one of the most experienced performers in this cast. Lucille benefits from that experience because the character could easily have been written as little more than Derrick’s suspicious gatekeeper. Boyd instead gives her enough warmth and dry humor to make the community center feel like a genuine home Derrick would fight to protect.
Who Plays the Community Center Teens?
Graham Verchere leads the younger community-center ensemble as Jordan, one of the musically talented teenagers Derrick mentors. Connor Wong, Elijah Westgate and Romar Dungo appear alongside him as members of the same group, with Dungo credited as Spencer. Their upcoming variety-show fundraiser becomes crucial because Kaitlin offers to help turn the event into a success in exchange for Derrick considering the Absolutely Yeah! reunion. The arrangement gives Derrick a reason to continue working with Kaitlin even when he remains deeply skeptical of her original agenda.
Verchere has the most recognizable résumé among the younger performers. He played Nathan Burgle in Fargo, appeared as a young Shaun Murphy in The Good Doctor and starred as Leo Borlock opposite Grace VanderWaal in Disney’s Stargirl. Jordan also receives more emotional material than the other teenagers, making him an important link between Derrick’s former identity as a musician and the purpose he has found teaching the next generation.
Who Plays Merrie and Mason?
Tetiana Ostapowych and Barry W. Levy play Merrie and Mason, the hosts of Merrie & Mason in the Morning, where Kaitlin works. Merrie is particularly enthusiastic about Absolutely Yeah! and makes booking Derrick central to Kaitlin’s chances of securing her promotion. That enthusiasm becomes increasingly uncomfortable once the show begins promoting the reunion before Derrick has properly committed. The morning-show scenes therefore provide more than comic relief because they constantly remind Kaitlin that her career is tied to a promise she may not be able to keep.

The broader credited ensemble also includes Adam Thomas, Emma Rendell and Jesse Lipscombe. Hallmark’s public cast page concentrates almost entirely on Sustad and Metcalfe, but the supporting cast is unusually important to the finished movie because Kaitlin and Derrick essentially belong to two separate communities when the story begins.
That division is what makes the cast work better than a simple two-star Hallmark romance might suggest. Sustad carries the television comedy, Metcalfe supplies the former-celebrity storyline, and the Absolutely Yeah! members and community-center teenagers gradually pull those two worlds together. The reunion may be Kaitlin’s original objective, but the cast surrounding Derrick explains why walking back into the spotlight is a much more complicated decision than simply agreeing to sing an old hit again.
