Top 10 most anticipated movies of 2023, according to Fandango

As we enter the post-pandemic era in 2023, studios anticipate a significant box office rebound. Fandango released this week a list of the top 10 most anticipated films of 2023. There will be a plethora of blockbusters to test the appetites of audiences in 2023. Unsurprisingly, comic book films dominate the top of the list, and even less surprisingly, all but one of the entries are sequels or prequels. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is the only film in this collection that is not part of an established film franchise.

According to Fandango, over 5,000 fans who purchased at least one movie ticket in 2022 participated in a survey, which resulted in this list of the most anticipated movies of 2023.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Disney)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, produced by Marvel Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the sequel to “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014) and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (2017). 2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Sony)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is an upcoming American computer-animated superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment. It is a sequel to Sony Pictures Releasing’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and is set in the Spider-Verse, a shared multiverse of alternate universes. This is the directorial debut of Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham wrote the screenplay.

3. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (Disney)

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope Pym / Wasp. It is the 31st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). (MCU). The film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, as well as Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, David Dastmalchian, and Randall Park. It is directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jeff Loveness. In the movie, Lang and van Dyne travel to the Quantum Realm with their family and face Kang the Conqueror (Majors).

4. John Wick: Chapter 4 (Lionsgate)

John Wick: Chapter 4 is an upcoming American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. It is the fourth instalment in the John Wick film series and the sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019). From June to October 2021, filming took place in Berlin, Paris, Osaka, and New York City, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the title character.

5. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Disney)

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is an upcoming American action adventure film starring Harrison Ford as archaeologist Indiana Jones in the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones film series, following Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). James Mangold directed the film, which he co-wrote with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Pictures (DCEU). Jason Momoa stars as Arthur Curry / Aquaman alongside Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman in the film directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

7. Mission: Impossible  Dead Reckoning Part One (Paramount)

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One is an upcoming American action spy film written, produced, and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. It is the seventh instalment in the “Mission: Impossible” film series and the sequel to “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (2018). Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes are among the cast members.

8. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Lionsgate)

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Michael Arndt and Michael Lesslie, based on the 2020 novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. It is the fifth instalment in “The Hunger Games” film series, and it serves as a prequel to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (2012). Creed III is an upcoming American sports drama film directed by Michael B. This is the first film in the series in which Sylvester Stallone does not portray Rocky Balboa, though he continues to serve as a producer under his Balboa Productions banner.

10. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Universal)

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an upcoming computer-animated fantasy adventure comedy film based on the Mario video game franchise published by Nintendo, being based primarily on the mainline Super Mario series of platforming games. Following the Japanese anime film “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!” (1986) and the American live-action film “Super Mario Bros.” (1993). Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (in Jelenic’s feature directorial debut) directed the film from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel.
