Tim Malcolm’s Defense of Paola Backfires at The Last Resort Tell All

Tim Malcolm's gifts to Paola and criticism of Kara complicate his defense of their friendship during Season 3's first Tell All.

The Last Resort Season 3

Tim Malcolm arrives at 90 Day: The Last Resort Season 3’s Tell All to explain his friendship with Paola Mayfield, but his appearance becomes a debate about who gets to speak for her marriage. Russ Mayfield wants answers about gifts and messages that he considers inappropriate. Tim presents himself as a supportive friend, then makes increasingly personal judgments about Russ, Paola’s relationship and another woman onstage.

The result is more complicated than the romantic mystery suggested by the reunion preview. In Episode 17, “Tell All Part 1,” the conversation does not establish an affair between Tim and Paola. Instead, it exposes a disagreement over the difference between offering friendship and treating someone else’s troubled marriage as something an outsider can declare finished. Tim’s attempt to defend Paola also brings him into conflict with Kara.

The rose complicates Tim’s friendship explanation

Tim says he contacted Paola because he is a wrestling fan and was attending an event in Las Vegas. They met, enjoyed themselves and became friends, according to his account. He denies that their interactions were sexual. That distinction matters because an admission of interest, an uncomfortable present and a physical relationship are different claims, and the Tell All supplies no basis for combining them into one.

His explanation becomes harder to keep simple when Guillermo asks whether Paola is his type. Tim initially says no, then acknowledges that he liked her. Paola describes receiving numbered gifts to open in a particular order, ending with a gold-plated rose. She says she put the rose away because it felt inappropriate, while Tim explains that the package was for her birthday. Her reaction establishes a discomfort that his description of the gift does not resolve.

Russ objects to more than a birthday present

For Russ, the dispute includes a message sent after the Las Vegas visit. He recalls Tim telling Paola, in effect, that her husband was not worthy of her. When Russ raises that recollection, Tim stands by the judgment. The exchange shifts the discussion from whether a present looked romantic to whether Tim was entitled to assess Russ’ place in the marriage so dismissively.

Paola also explains why Russ’ reaction mattered to her. She says she did not need to make him jealous, but wanted him to ask why Tim was sending presents. Russ says he eventually did. Their disagreement shows that the same gift carried different concerns: Tim’s intention, Paola’s comfort and Russ’ response were all being argued separately.

Russ later makes a useful distinction of his own: he says Tim was disrespectful without saying Tim caused all the problems between him and Paola. Those problems were already evident before the guest arrived, as the full Episode 17 recap details. Paola had discussed her lost emotional connection, while Russ described their return to old habits after the retreat. Treating Tim as the explanation for everything would flatten a much longer argument.

Tim cannot decide when their marriage ended

Tim’s strongest defense is also the point at which he overreaches. He says Paola’s relationship was already done when he met her and argues that Russ does not recognize it. That is Tim’s assessment of their emotional situation, rather than a settled fact about their relationship. Other cast members challenge his right to make that determination while Paola and Russ are still married.

Paola’s own words carry a different weight. Before Tim appears, she tells Russ that she cannot keep living with the feeling that she no longer wants the relationship. Afterward, she repeats that she does not want to remain married. Those statements belong to her, and they do not need Tim’s interpretation to make them meaningful. His support becomes less persuasive when he starts explaining her marriage as though his conclusion should settle it for everyone.

Defending Paola turns into criticizing Kara

The conversation takes another turn when Ross Mathews asks Tim about Shekinah’s criticism of Paola’s clothing and attention from other men. Tim responds by praising Paola, but attaches that praise to a derogatory judgment about women onstage. Kara asks whom he means. His subsequent criticism of online content and sympathy for Guillermo make the discussion about her work rather than Paola’s boundaries.

Kara objects to the insult, saying he can disagree with her content without degrading her. Tim tries to rephrase his comment before apologizing for calling her the name. The contradiction is revealing: while asking the cast to understand Paola’s circumstances rather than judge her, he reduces Kara’s circumstances to a judgment about her behavior. The focus moves away from the friendship he came to explain because his defense introduces another person to criticize.

Paola defines the friendship herself

Paola provides the clearest limit near the end of Tim’s appearance. She says she told him she did not want any more gifts and wanted friendship only. According to her account, he stopped once she explained that the present made her uncomfortable. Tim confirms that he accepted the boundary, giving the conversation a concrete answer about what she wanted from their connection.

Tim has an answer to Russ’ objection: Paola told him what made her uncomfortable, and he changed his behavior. His defense of his earlier choices overshadows that response. The reunion gives Paola room to separate a friendship she wants to keep from a marriage she wants to leave. Her wishes deserve to be heard individually, without treating one as proof of the other.
